Really? This is a thing? Perhaps will give one more try getting a classic grilled cheese, tomato soup, and dining in. As it was got take-out shroom sandwich for my wife and the special of the day, Bavarian, for me. Trish does not like canned mushrooms so hers was forgettable. Mine had pretzels which turned soggy on the drive home. For $ 6 would rather have spent $ 1 more and had a nice burger or burrito or … I will admit that while I was waiting for my order they brought out a couple of fresh grilled cheeses to dine-in patrons and those looked pretty good.

UPDATE: Service has improved — in that orders come out together — but we have had the dessert donuts delivered before the sandwich(which doesn’t make a whole lot of sense). The butter level has improved as well. I still cannot justify increasing the star rating because the prices are prohibitive. I would recommend this for a quick meal when you don’t want to wait on servers — but you still want something a little fancier than a sub shop or fast food.

Been there 3 times and loved it. I get the Swiss+Shroom and if I am with someone, I split the Blueberry Blue. YUM!!!

They have redefined the gourmet grilled cheese sandwich. WOW! I had the Flying Pig sandwich on pumpernickel rye. My son made his own out of two cheeses and pepperoni on white bread… very classic taste. We would, and we will, go back.

Food is pretty good, love the décor. I ordered the donut sandwich and was surprised on how good the taste was. Definitely worth the visit.

I’ve been wanting to try this place ever since I heard about the franchise on shark tank and they were opening a store here. I ordered the grilled Mac and cheese along with a buffalo chicken soup. First off this is not a place for those eating healthy. On that note, the food was delicious! The soup was something new and tasty. It was so hot I had to take it to go.(Not a complaint) but when I went to reheat it the next day you could see a layer of butter? Sitting on top of the soup. It’s probably best to eat it same day. The Mac and cheese sandwich was good as well. I was expecting more Mac and cheese to be in the sandwich. While on the light side, it was still pretty tasty. Overall this place is ok. The atmosphere was welcoming. I would definitely go again in the future.

First time eating at Tom + Chee, a new place in town that I have been wanting to try since I first heard they were opening! I figured I would give them a few months though as I heard they were very busy when they first opened, which is great to hear a new place is getting lots of business! My parents and I went here right before Thanksgiving. We got there right around dinner hours as I believe we were there around 6pm, and the place was dead. Since there was no one in line besides us, it gave us plenty of time to study the menu as there is a wide selection of different grilled cheese sandwiches that are offered. Between the three of us, we decided to get The Tom +Chee(tomato, garlic, mozzarella, and cheddar) and the Grilled Mac + Chee(mac & cheese and cheddar). We also had two tomato soups(one classic and one creamy) and a bowl of mac & cheese. The female employee at the register was friendly, but was not able to answer some questions we had about different items and therefore had to find someone who could. Sandwich prices seemed reasonable enough, but all together I believe our bill came to around $ 22. If you’re a fan of grilled cheeses, then this is the place to go. The Tom + Chee was delicious with the two types of cheese and garlic seasoning. The bread was amazingly delicious as well and was served on a Texas toast white bread. My mom and I were so happy we decided to split because a whole one definitely would have been too much bread for me. My Dad’s mac + chee was also very good and he seemed to enjoy eating mac + cheese on a sandwich. The tomato soups were also very good. The extra bowl of mac + cheese that I ordered was delicious as well, but with only two or three bites remaining I found a hair in the bowl which I knew was not mine. I understand that flyaway hairs can happen, but it still seemed to ruin my experience with the restaurant a bit. I took the bowl to an employee, who quickly told me they would bring me out a new bowl of mac + cheese. Well at that point I was done with the meal, so a new bowl isn’t exactly what I wanted. But they did bring it out to me and offered their apologies. Truthfully, I would have rather them refund me for the bowl instead of bring me a new one. So other than the hair in the food, our meal was good. I’ll probably go back at some point and give it another go.

I ordered the ARMAGOETTA a sandwich with goetta+spicy cherry pepper+fried onion+sweet hot mustard+pepper jack+hardy white+pumpernickel rye. It was spicey, but not so spicey i couldn’t taste the ingredients. It was appropriately greasy for a grilled cheese sandwich, unfortunately, i think with all of the ingredients, the cheese sort of got lost, maybe they need to use a bolder cheese that can stand up to the hot peppers and mustard. Overall, it was a tasty sandwich, I could taste the sweet and tang of the sweet hot mustard. The bread was fresh and bready, just the way i like it and it was the mildest pumpernickel I’ve ever had, so those that do not long the flavor of pumpernickel bread, will not be putt off if they order this sandwich. The down side, is that this was from the crunchy menu and my sandwich had no crunch, but maybe that is because I had take out and it got soft on the way home, so i won’t count it against them. The Creamy tomato basil soup was also pretty good, it was creamy, but not so creamy that I was gonna have a tummy ache later — which is a good thing. I had a cup, instead of a bowl and I think the portion was good, a bowl would have been too much, especially with a sandwich. As of this writing, after eating the soup and the sandwich I had no room for the salad, I ordered the small grilled cheese sandwich and it is a salad with a cut up grilled cheese sandwich on it. It was a very decent sized salad to be considered a «small» salad, i wonder what the regular size salad looks like. It is a fairly decent salad though, they use spring greens of arugala, radicchio and watercress I think, mushrooms, sliced red peppers, shredded carrots and cucumber. I am very impressed, i was totally expecting iceberg lettuce, 1 slice one onion, 2 cherry tomatoes like other places’ house salad. Kudo’s on the salad. The entire meal was $ 15 and some change, a little more than I would like to pay for lunch, it would be great if they had a specific lunch special, like ½ sandwich small soup and small salad, for about $ 8. I would definitely go again.

I have to admit something. I love grilled cheese sandwiches. It’s my inner kid coming out and thats one of the reasons I love this place so much. They make special grilled cheese sandwiches with fresh ingredients such as there slow cooked turkey and chicken that melts in your mouth. Pair that with great tomato soup and you have a match made in heaven. Oh and lets not forget there wierd and wonderful desert. A grilled cheese donut with various topings. It is a strange and wonderful combination that is worth having atleast once. Friendly people and good food. I highly recommend coming out and trying Tom and Chee for yourself.

This was almost a religious experience. No joke. And for about a $ 6 sandwich and $ 5 dessert?! Wow they have a winning formula here! The restaurant was bright and clean… a fast casual sort of place. Menu is unique and interesting with lots of options. I ordered what the gal suggested as some of the popular choices and I’m glad I did. The Grilled Mac + Chee had great flavor and went perfectly with the tomato soup(you can order a mini side for $ 1.50 for dipping). But the religious experience came from the Blueberry Blue grilled cheese donut… Light lemony mascarpone and blueberry compote with a perfect light delicious donut cut in half as the dessert sandwich bun… Wow just wow. I got mine to go and intended to try just one bite in my car before driving off… Before I knew it there was a full blown blueberry massacre covering my hands and dessert was long gone! Ha! Perfection!

I have to say, what a fun place this is. Amazing food, great prices and tasty food! I was visiting Omaha so I had to try this place as they are not in my home state yet on the east coast. I was not disappointed! I originally heard of Tom + Chee on Shark Tank and have been wanting to experience eating here every since. If I had a lot of money I would open my own franchise on the east coast! Here’s to World domination!

After seeing Tom + Chee on Sharktank and realizing they had one in Omaha, I figured I’d go see what all the fuss was about. I ordered cheddar cheese and chopped bacon on GF bread. I was very pleased to see the GF option, and the bread tasted great(there are many disappointing GF breads out there). Like other reviewers have said, it just didn’t wow me. At a place that specializes in one type of sandwich, I would have expected the cheese to be amazingly gooey and more abundant in the sandwich. Chee(se) is in the name! The bacon was chopped far too daintily. I suggest larger chunks to really stand up to the bread. The décor is very corporate and cookie cutter. Just as expected. As far as I saw, everything was clean. A big disappointment was the staff. They were nice enough when I ordered, but once I sat down I could hear loud conversations from the back. One worker complained loudly about having to come in early in the morning. They ribbed each other mercilessly(as coworkers often do) but as a customer I didn’t want to be privy to the details. This didn’t strike the right chord with me as a first time customer.

I loved Tom and Chee and have been wanting to try it out since seeing it on Shark Tank months ago. When I saw they were coming to Omaha, I was super excited. i love grilled cheese and tomato soup, but don’t see it offered as a combination in most restaurants. Since I’ve had to go dairy free for my daughter, this was the perfect place to go as they offer vegetarian/vegan options. I was still able to get a grilled cheese sandwich with bacon(they forgot this and I got my money back), bacon, and tomato, and a bowl of tomato soup. Everything was delicious and i can’t wait to go back.

The motto here is «Eat What’s Fun». So while it’s not the most grown up grilled cheese experience I’ve ever had, the kid in you(as well as any actual children you may have dining with you) will get a kick out of Tom + Chee. Plus, the menu and ability to customize sandwiches is vast enough that even after three visits, I still feel like there’s a big chunk of options I haven’t explored. I’m one of those who first heard of Tom + Chee from their Shark Tank fame. Really, this is a great success story for the owners. And while the idea of a tomato soup and grilled cheese restaurant is an admirable one, I’d ultimately probably prefer Tom[ato] and Chee[se] as they started in 2009… a small tent-based operation run by two couples in Cincinnati’s Fountain Square. For me, I wonder if franchising has perhaps diluted some of the«je né sais quoi» that made the original Tom + Chee’s food so special(though the brand obviously remains strong). When it comes to the menu, there’s quite a bit going on. It might not hurt to read up beforehand a little so you’re not caught gaping at the board and holding up the ordering line. All told, there are 4 soups, 4 salads, 9 grilled cheese donuts and 15 sandwiches(plus a «make your own» option). For ingredients, you can choose from: 6 breads 11 cheeses 8 veggies 7 meats 7 extras(things like pesto, hummus and blueberry compote) You can also order ‘dippers’ of the soups — perfect! And adding pickles is free! Wee! Read More…

My first visit to Tom + Chee was this past weekend and it was an awesome experience. You walk in and you see the colorful menu over the cashiers. It definitely pops out. I walked up to the cashier and ordered the Flying Pig sandwich, a bowl of the creamy tomato basil soup, and the S’Mores donut sandwich. The cashier definitely knew the POS system because she was very fast. My wife ordered a custom vegan sandwich, a bowl of the tomato soup, and the Strawberry Lemonade donut sandwich. We sat down and they delivered our order to us in about 10 – 15 minutes as they make everything to order. My flying Pig sandwich was awesome. It was $ 6.75, which is cheaper than the same sandwich at a restaurant would be and it was delicious,(posted photos). The cheese was great and the turkey and bacon tasted über fresh. The creamy tomato soup was okay to me, a person who isn’t a huge fan of tomato soup, but my wife loved it. Her tomato soup was chunky and it was good. A cool option they have for their sandwiches is the double decker option, which basically puts another layer of all of the ingredients on top of the sandwich; so you have bread, ingredients, bread, ingredients, bread. And it’s only $ 2.50 extra for all sandwiches! I’ll try that when I go back next. The donut sandwiches that we got are pretty much dessert in my opinion. They are a tad expensive for their size,($ 4.75), but they use great ingredients and they were freaking delicious. My wife ordered bacon on her sandwich and they forgot to put it on. She went up to the register and they just credit’d back the amount of the bacon to our credit card. Mistakes happen, no big deal. Overall, I loved this place and will definitely go back soon, maybe this weekend, to try another one of their delicious, made-to-order sandwiches.

I heart carbs. I heart cheese. So I was ready to heart the Tom + Chee. Granted, on my visit I was with a 12 y/o whom I allowed to choose our(sharing) lunch options. He chose the Grill Mac + Chee(5.95) and the S’more(4.95). Perhaps not the top items on my let’s-try-out-a-new-experience list, but what the heck. You order and pay at the counter. They give you a number and once your sandwiches are ready, they arrive at your table in paper-lined baskets. While I was not a fan of either sandwich, my 12 y/o dining companion thought it was one of the best meals ever — noting that the Mac + Chee would be made better with thick cut bacon. I do appreciate the dipper size portion of soup you can order with your sandwich, but opted not to go there(since my «date» was paying for lunch and I was trying to be budget friendly for the little guy). I could see how other folks might really like this place. Quick service. Sponge Bob on the screen to entertain folks. Packets of ketchup and hot sauce at the ready. Probs won’t make another trip simply due to distance — hate to have to pack a lunch for the commute for grilled cheese, no matter how novel it may be.

I love the concept of this place and have been looking forward to it but this place thinks it’s a full service sit down restaurant and needs to accept it’s a fast food establishment. Ordered the BLT + chee with creamy tomato basil soup. Soup was fantastic. This is one of my favorite kinds of soup and I’d say they are better than many other places in Omaha that have this soup. The sandwich was grilled perfectly but had minimal cheese, I was expecting an ooey-gooey cheesy sandwich since this is a «grilled cheese» place. Lettuce was weird on it but I knew that when I ordered so that was my fault. Chopped tomatoes on it and chopped bacon. I had expected all this to be grilled into the sandwich but it’s not, and it all falls out. Make no mistake the sandwich was decent, soup was great but the value isn’t there at all! This sandwich, cup of soup, water, and a slight pressure to tip(because they don’t know it’s a fast food place) $ 10.75. Yeah… no, I won’t do that again! I will return to try out a doughnut tho. Food was out in 5 min and staff is very very friendly. But, I wouldn’t even pay $ 10.75 for this in a full service sit down restaurant.

Amazing. What else can you say. Yes, it’s very busy. Yes, the food is different and great. My family went around 630 Friday night. The line was long, but moved quickly. Since we had never seen the menu it was perfect timing for us to decide what to order. We tried a variety. Pepperoni and cheese, Mac & cheese, bbq & bacon and my favorite, the king. Peanut butter and banana on a glazed donut. No complaints from the family. We will definitely be back.

This was my first visit to any location of the Tom and Chee franchise, and I was really intrigued about their customized grilled cheeses with tomato soup, because lets get real it’s an American classic and we all love grilled cheese and tomato soup! Here are a few quick thoughts about my first visit: Location-Easy to find, located off Maple and 144th in the Lowes shopping plaza. Line-Out the door! Forgivable, because it is new and honestly the concept is really cool so I’m not surprised that it was packed for lunch on a Sunday. I stood in line for about 20 – 30 mins with no complaint. Staff-Pretty young, and friendly. Definitely well meaning. Some inconsistencies like the register next to us was telling their customers that the wait time for food was 30 mins, while ours told us 10?!? It didn’t really tie together. One of them seemed really nervous-which is also forgivable since they’ve only been open less than a week and that many people can be quite stressful! Food– I ordered the plain grilled cheese with american cheese and the original tomato soup. I figured for the first try I might as well see how they do on the basics. The grilled cheese was fine-but nothing anyone could not duplicate with a Kraft single and a few slices of wonder bread in their own kitchen. It just was not very impressive for a plain grilled cheese, I think divey bars come up with a better grilled buttery bread crunch and more melty cheese. So for the sandwich-nothing bad just really no wow factor. The soup was a bit of the same thing. It was pretty bland as far as depth of flavor-I tasted the salt and the acidity of the tomato but not much else. It didnt strike me as better than a store bought can variety. I think I would have been better off ordering the creamy version which a few of my tablemates did-except their soup was room temp and not warm. Everyone else on the table ordered various things and no one seemed very wowed but anything we had. The mac and cheese was esp«bland» according to one of them, but I did not try it. As they are a franchise I figure their recipies are pretty solid already– so that would not cause variation in the food as it might for an independent new restaurant. I was disappointed by our food. It was $ 7 for a small cup of soup and the grilled cheese– which to be honest I’m not sure how I feel about that pricing yet. Overall somewhere to get some pretty average food but nothing super special as I expected given their specialty in the grilled cheese and tomato soup department. If you like the idea of customizing your grilled cheese in every which way from the bread to the cheese to the toppings you will likely enjoy Tom and Chee and I encourage you to try it yourself as they are very new and still working out some kinks. I hope you enjoy it more than I did.

«Eat What’s Fun» this is their slogan but unfortunately there was no fun to be had here today. Waited in line and ordered from the robotic cashier reading from a script. We were warned of long wait times by the staff but the food was out in 5 minutes — unfortunately. The tomato basil soup was served cold. Threw it out. The Tom & Chee sandwich was one of the saddest grilled cheese I have ever seen — hardly any cheese and flavorless. The Armagoetta was better but it is a melt not a grilled cheese. It tasted of meat and hot peppers. Where’s the cheese? Our table of 6 had nothing noteworthy. So disappointing. Your typical mediocre chain.
