El Jimador

This is a short walking distance from an RV park. Went here as I didn’t want to cook. Well worth the money. You get a LOT of food for your money. I normally clean my plate at Mexican restaurants, but couldn’t finish here. I had chicken enchiladas with sour cream. I asked for NO beans, they nicely complied.
Now, I do have to comment on the salsa served with the food. Some Mexican co-​workers I knew years ago told me that using tomato sauce in a Mexican recipe is a BIG NO NO! Must be fresh vegetables. Thus, I have developed a finely tuned palate for determining if the salsa was made with tomato sauce. (I even learned how to make salsa without tomato sauce!) Although they get a thumbs up for the salsa being good, they also get a thumbs DOWN because it was obvious that it had tomato sauce in it. SORRY! Would have awarded five stars if it had been made without tomato sauce.
Oh, one more thing. Their booths are HUGE! I was dining alone, but if I had been with a friend, I would have needed a megaphone to talk to the other person across the booth.

Ok. On reviewer said good and the other not. We liked it. Hubby and I both ordered carne asada tacos. We were seated pretty fast and given chips and salsa. We liked the salsa a lot! Compared to Sterling Colorado and Billings Montana this place was heaven! Beans were very tasty and didn’t have so much lard in them that they had lost color, these were dark, smooth and had flavor. This is a hidden gem compared to other place I have eaten.

Took a party of 12 here a half hour before they closed and they treated us right. Did not push us or hurry us out. Food was really good. Onawa has a nice gem here.

Fast and friendly service… but food isn’t very good. As a matter of fact, I love Mexican food and the «basics» here didn’t even cut it for 3 stars. Ordered chips, guacamole, side of rice, side of beans, and HOT house salsa. I would hate to try the regular salsa because the hot was a very sad excuse for hot… Chips didn’t taste house made, guac was lacking flavor, rice was ok but refried beans were not edible in my opinion. Wish I would have documented the tragedy with some photos! Won’t be back.
