For curiosity sake, I ventured into this little book shop once. The store manager was friendly and her dog was the cutest, friendliest attention hound ever. :) The place is pretty packed with books!(so be ready to rummage a bit) I found some cool vintage sewing books and one great old cookbook. There were no prices anywhere, so I was confused, but assumed it wouldn’t be too much. When I went to check out, she told me «whatever you want to pay». Huh? I had no idea it was a donation only book store! How awesome is that? :) $ 5 later, I had two amazing books. Seriously, go check it out if you want to rummage a bit and find a hidden gem.

I used to shop there on a regular basis and got along fine with everyone who volunteered there. Then one day I happened to mention to one volunteer that I was Jewish, and she informed me that I would have to pay more than other customers because«we know you have the money.» When I threatened to sue, she told me that she just meant that because I own a business I have money, not because I’m Jewish. I called Phil, the volunteer in charge of the place, and he told me that if I didn’t like it, then I shouldn’t shop there anymore. I also went to the police to file a complaint but was told that it was a civil matter for which I would have to hire a lawyer, and because the stereotype about Jews having lots of money is NOT true, I couldn’t afford to do that. However, I CAN afford to go on the internet and tell as many people as possible about the despicable, racist treatment I received at the Friends of the Library Bookstore, and anyone who wants to know further details should feel free to contact me through this site.
