My husband and I just returned from a lovely stay at the Mayhurst Inn. Jack and Pat were lovely hosts and so knowledgable about the local area. They recommended restaurants and wineries that were exactly what we were looking for. They gave great directions and had complimentary tasting coupons for several of the places we visited. Breakfast was stunning! I especially loved the scones — crumbly, but not dry — and the Eggs Benedict. The evening wine and cheese reception was also a lovely feature. We met several other couples that we enjoyed spending time with on Saturday evening. We stayed in the School House and it was perfect. A short walk from the main house, it provided the privacy and quiet we were craving. We loved the soap and shampoo provided in the room. Overall, a wonderful place to stay. We highly recommend!

My husband and I chose Mayhurst as the site for our wedding a month ago and could not have been happier with our choice. As a bed and breakfast, it is a great choice. Pat’s breakfast is AMAZING(as is the coffee). Rooms all have a private bathroom and everything you need. You get plenty of privacy and the advantage of staying in a place with an interesting history. Pat and Jack are just wonderful– all of our families loved them– they definitely add to the experience. As a wedding venue, I could not recommend this place more. Pat was SO helpful in planning the wedding(during our rehearsal we realized she had more experience with this than even our minister– and she was eager to offer her help!) She emailed back and forth with me beforehand as well and helped with so many details. We had a non-traditional set-up for our wedding and they accommodated my every crazy wish. I loved that there was so much space for our families to just relax for the wedding– the library, the beautiful back veranda. The selling point for me was the back courtyard– we used it for dinner then dancing. EVERYONE who came to the wedding raved about the place and how beautiful it was. They even noticed how nice and helpful the owners were during the reception. It made our wedding perfect to be able to spend the whole weekend together with both our families at Mayhurst. Plus there is a hotel a block of 2 away our other guests/family could stay at(which was not the case with other B and B’s I looked into for our wedding). Loved, loved, loved this place. Seriously, if you are looking to have your wedding at a bed and breakfast in the Charlottesville area, book Mayhurst.

This place was amazing. It is run by a husband and wife that will treat you like gold. Every night, there is a wine and cheese reception in the parlor. As I’m gluten free/low lactose, they even made special breakfasts for me. And yes, the breakfasts were great! It is a super cool place(built just before the American Civil War) and close to Montpelier. Stayed for 2 nights; had a great time!

We stayed at the Mayhurst Inn for our anniversary. We found it online while looking around and were drawn in from the descriptions and photos. We arrived on Friday evening. The Inn is tucked off route 15 so is quiet and unspoiled. We came up to the front and were greeted by the owners, Pat and Jack. They had cheese and wine for a house happy hour. Other guest were there, so we were able to meet some new people and chat in the library. Jack shared menus with us from local restaurants, we picked one and he made reservations for us. We stayed in the Southern Charm room, a very comfortable room with a fire place, whirlpool tub and shower, and king bed. It was a great room: quiet and spacious. On Saturday, we woke up to an amazing breakfast in the dining room. Pat is quite the cook! And something about their coffee is amazing. Jack had arranged for us to take a Civil War battlefield tour(one of the main reasons we stayed there). Phil Audibert was our personal guide for the day, and I can’t recommend him enough. We spent over 8 hours touring 4 battlefields and numerous sites. Great recommendation from Jack. Saturday night enjoyed meeting others at the evening reception, and then had champagne and chocolate strawberries in our room. A perfect romantic evening. Sunday we were sad to go, but not before another great breakfast. Since it was Easter, Pat had Easter baskets on all the tables. Pat and Jack are gracious hosts; they pay attention to the little things to make your stay very comfortable. The house has Civil War history of its own. Over all, it’s an amazing experience. We loved it and we will be back. If you want a relaxing weekend getaway and a base to visit Monticello, Ashlawn, Montpelier, wineries, Civil War history, then this is the place. You will not be disappointed.

I have been to a few bed and breakfasts in my lifetime, but I have to say that the familial element of the Mayhurst Inn really makes you feel like you are staying with close friends. There’s a wine tasting in the afternoon, cookies around lunchtime, and a breakfast that will not leave your stomach wanting for more. The Mayhurst Inn is also chock full of history. It is right in the heart of some historic moments in Civil War history, and participated in its own: Robert E. Lee stayed in one of the rooms. The rooms and furnishings are well maintained and carry the period charm that you would expect from a house with a lineage and historical surroundings. It also helps that it is in the heart of wine country, so it offers a much better experience and set of memories than the usual lodging options. Lastly, I can’t say enough about the folks who operate and own the Mayhurst Inn; they are a real treat to converse and spend time with. I hope that I get the opportunity to visit them and this establishment again for another memorable stay in the future.

My wife and I found the Mayhurst while looking for a location for our wedding a few years ago. Well, not only did we get married there but we’ve been back again and again since(and are already planning our next trip). I’ve been to a lot of B&B’s over the years and the Mayhurst is, hands down, the best of them. The house and the grounds are beautiful, the location offers a lot(or, if you prefer, a little) to do and the food is great. The best part, though, are the innkeepers, Jack and Pat North. Whether you’re planning a large wedding or are just coming up for a quiet weekend, they treat their guests like family and do everytig that they can to make sure that your stay is just right. I cannot recommend the Mayhurst enough.

We recently attended a wedding here, and let me say that this place is gorgeous! It’s right off a main road, but you would never know it’s there, it’s so hidden. The house is beautiful, but the grounds are even more beautiful. There’s lots of land to walk around and explore, and the history of it all is so overwhelming! I was very impressed with the place. I wish I lived here.

My husband and I love the Mayhurst Inn and will be back! We stayed in the Stonewall Jackson room with a lovely fireplace. The owners are beyond lovely and give great recommendations to local food, wineries, and attractions. We purchased the Wine Package Deal. I’m not sure if I’ll bother with it again, although when we arrived stuffed from our dinner, we had delicious chocolate dipped strawberries and Champagne in our room! I admit I did not pay attention to this detail, but if you want a very romantic evening… go for it! The package also includes a picnic basket, with cheese, etc. The Mayhurst Inn is so welcoming and warm! Not just a place to sleep, but an experience. Highly Highly recommend as a weekend getaway.

Amazing home with really cool and gracious owners. House is really relaxing with lots of areas to hang out and read and tons of outdoor space to hike or hang out in the hammock. Great breakfast and the nightly wine is really nice of them to offer and and a nice way to relax and meet other guest.
