Tried Spanky’s mainly because there just aren’t a lot of options in this town and the hotel staff recommended it. The highlights of the meal were the fresh rolls and cinnamon butter served while you wait to order. It was pretty darn good. For my meal, I chose the Seafood Platter. The portions were big(I counted 5 – 6 pieces each of shrimp, fish, and oysters) along with a cup of chicken and sausage gumbo, a side(I picked sweet potato fries) and a trip to the salad bar. The highlight of the salad bar was the jalapeño ranch dressing. Otherwise, it was unremarkable. The gumbo was not very good, as the roux was weak and runny and had very little flavor. The entrée itself was decent. The food was served hot and was cooked well. However, like the salad bar, it was unremarkable. Just another fried seafood platter… On the up side, my server was attentive and I never ran out of anything. Overall, I left sated, but not excited about coming back. PS. On the downside, smoking is still allowed in a cutoff room on the back side of the restaurant. That was a big downer for me, but it could be that way throughout Texas. Not sure since it has been a while since I’ve visited the Lone Star State. If you absolutely cannot even a whiff of cigarette smoke, avoid this place.

I have been to Spankys quite often while in Orange on a job. They have very good food. The only exception is the crawfish. If you don’t know any better you may say their crawfish is good. However, if you know the way they are supposed to be cooked, you will know these aren’t cooked right. They do not cook the crawfish in seasoned water like they are supposed to be. They are boiled in plain water and seasoning sprinkled on top. I had some served to me and evidently someone forgot to sprinkle the seasoning on them. YUCK!!! When the manager came to my table I asked that they be boiled in seasoning and I was told they couldn’t boil them in seasoned water and serve them to the public… NOTTRUEATALL. I’m from Louisiana and the mere mention of boiling them in plain water would get you laughed out of an establishment. Because of the crawfish they have to lose points with me. :-(

I didn’t like that there was still smoking allowed in here. The smell drifted into the main restaurant. But the rest of the experience was WONDERFUL. Our waitress was so kind, it was her family’s place. She came to our table to help us peel all our crawfish, which were delicious. The food was so good. Holy crap so good.

I came across this place on the way back from. lake Charles craving some crawfish. The parking lot was a little tight and crowded. When my boyfriend and I came inside the resturant there was a big group waiting to get seated. We were sat right away in corner booth. We were greeted with by going server she was friendly and seemed down to earth. We order the alligator bites and two pounds of crawfish. They serve rolls and some type of cinnamon butter which was delicious. We were starving the food did not take that long to get to the table. The crawfish comes served with some cajun seasoning butter and I’m guessing there own sauce… It tasted like a mixture of ketchup mustard and mayo. I’m not sure what it was I didn’t ask lol. The food was good the environment is family oriented. I would say it is a nice little pit stop on the way home.

The only people that really like this place are locals. It’s been around along time and they know what to order. It’s just a place for people to sit around and smoke and get drunk when they have nothing better to do. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. I’d rather stay home and drink.

Restaurant so-so. Bar service awful. And don’t EVER order food in the bar area at night. You get ignored completely. Had to ask more than twice for refills and finally had to go up to the bar to get the refill that had been sitting there while the bartender stopped to do dishes and forgot they sat it down. Older female bartender/waitress ignored and«forgot» everything repeatedly. Then they tried to finally apologize to salvage the tip after a complained when I went up to the bar to ask for a third time for my food ticket. If I could give less than one star I would.

Passing through Orange TX on my way back to CA tonight. Saw this place and pulled into the parking lot. Sat at the bar and enjoyed the best, most perfectly seasoned plate of fresh crawfish ever! I was so impressed I ordered the fried shrimp even though I wasn’t hungry. I simply wanted to sample more of this locally caught and prepared food. I ended up eating all 10 fried shrimp, a dish of perfectly dressed cole slaw, and a couple hush puppies. I sure wish I could find shrimp and crawfish this fresh and well seasoned in LA. Great staff especially Gabriel, pour bartender!

Lousy service, totally blew the order and were rude when I asked them to correct it. Also, the food was mediocre. I’ve eaten better burgers at public school. Don’t waste your money here.

Had an amazing hamburger there tonight… taste like a home made. My husband had the oyster plate and was very satisfied as well. Dirty rice was very tasty just a little too spicey

Why did I bother coming here for a meal. Not just bad service. But immature rude service from little girls in daisy duke shorts. Ugh. The smoke from the bar was making me sick to my stomach. I ate. Paid. And happily left. No traveler wants to bother. Honestly. Find another place where they have manners & act professional.

This place is popular with the locals. Beer is always cold and the food is good. Crawfish are a hit and miss. Sometimes spicy and big sometimes not. Steak bites and fried pickles are good. Well to be honest it’s all good.

We tried Spanky’s after several suggestions from people. We got there early enough on a Saturday that the place was practically empty. The service was fast and friendly. My husband got the Flook burger and could not stop raving about how delicious this massive burger was. I ordered the Fantail Shrimp Basket. The fries were great, but the shrimp was under-seasoned in my opinion. The food was fairly cheap. The two of us were able to enjoy a quality meal for just under $ 25. We’ll definitely be back.

One of the best local restaurants in Orange. Great food, and a good time. After 7pm, this place turns into more of a bar than a restaurant. All the items on the menu are full of flavor and the prices are spot on!
