Had the beef teriyaki sandwich, it was amazing. Big sandwich, lots of meat, and fresh bun. No regrets, ate the whole thing in one sitting. Co-worker had the veggie beef bowl. He says i was amazing, and far superior to Yoshinoya.

Best beef sandwich ever! It’s huge, me & the b/f split it. It’s such good meat. We eat here at least once a month. It’s bomb!

This place is amazing! I always call ahead and the food is ready within 15 minutes. It is our go to when we don’t want to cook. You will not be disappointed

First time going there and it was pretty good. I got the chicken bowl but they just need a little bit more teriyaki sauce on the chicken. Very close and convenient to my job. Similar to Flame Broiler. Will be going there in the future.

I’ve been coming here since the place first opened and it still tastes just as good. The food is very consistent! I’m picky with meat because of fatty pieces, but the meat is very clean here and I love it! The staff is also very nice.

I was very excited when I first decided to go to Umami. Recently many of my friends suggested I try out the place, and it seemed pretty hyped up in general! Now typically, I’m the type of girl who kills for some good fries, and although the fries were fine at this location, the serving sizes were not, so that was a pretty big(unlike the fries portions) disappointment. I got the chicken and beef plate because why bother going through the hassle of having to choose when you can just get both? The dish seemed huge at first and I thought it was going to make up for the sad order of fries, but as I started eating, I realized that the rice to meat ratio was incredibly horrendous. I generally prefer to eat most of the rice first and leave a majority of the meat to eat after, but as I was digging into the plate I realized that that wasn’t a reliable option. I got the combo so it came with a drink, and soup, and although the drink was fine(didn’t really expect much), the soup was really bland and just distasteful. The reason why I’m giving it 3 stars and not lower is because, although the portion sizes and meat to rice ratio were pretty cringe-worthy, the beef was absolutely delectable and really tender. The chicken and rice paired nicely together with the sauce as a glue of some sort, and I really did enjoy the food on its own when I disregard the other aspects to it. I prefer to get it to-go now, or in the bowls because it’s easier to balance out the meal and rice ratio. Also, ordering fries to go is a smarter option than eating it at the restaurant since the container they put it in is a lot bigger! Overall, it’s a pretty small location with quaint food, so yes I would suggest this place next time.

It’s a small restaurant, but the food is delicious. The portion sizes are quite large, one can probably split a plate. Overall completely satisfied.

This place shares a parking lot with 7 – 11 so it might be hard to find parking. I found parking easily when I got there, but when I left, there were no spots. I ordered the chicken and beef combination plate. I was surprised by the quality of their beef. It was really good. The plate is served with a salad with a mayo based dressing. They also supply an abundance of different hot sauces, so you have a good variety to choose from.

Decided to try this place for lunch yesterday with two of my coworkers since it is walking distance from our office. I ordered a beef veggie bowl and the meat was very tender and savory. Not over cooked and the rice was fluffy. The veggies were not overcooked and just right. My workers both had the half and half plate and said that they liked the beef better as the chicken was a bit dry. They said overall it was good. The service is super quick and you can even call it in, in advance. I would most definitely go back for lunch.

Terrible customer service Used to come here almost every day in the early spring-summer 2 young men at the front GREAT customer service very polite Took my order clearly every time.(phone) Idk what happened but over time i stopped going they hired a bunch of new women and people that dont speak english and they are very rude and impolite and cheap. THEYWILLMESSYOURORDERUP. In the end of the day yes the food is good but i don’t have the time or patience to deal with INCOMPETENCE. Id rather take my business elsewhere where I’m respected and i don’t have to get stressed out in the little time i call my lunch break. Maybe bring back the two young men who worked there. Idk.

Since the new owners at Yogi’s off Euclid and Chapman things have been off, aside from the higher prices. Found this place via Unilocal(surprised as I was) and have been going here ever since. I like the options available here(bowl/plate/veggies, more), the portions are just the right size and never had an issue with an order.

I have yet to find a teriyaki place that tastes as good as this place! Umami is located in a very small parking lot right by a laundromat and a 7−11… so parking is always a struggle. They do have parking spaces on the street, though! I always split the chicken veggie bowl with brown rice and add avocado… and sometimes if we’re really hungry, we’ll get a side order of chicken. Last time we were here we tried the beef, which is delicious as well. Their meat is so tender and flavorful! It tastes fresh and doesn’t need to be drowned in sauce. The rice doesn’t taste old or dry, like a lot of teriyaki places do. They don’t give a whole lot of veggies… but eh, I’m okay with that. They also offer mahi mahi, but stick with chicken or beef. Your stomachs will be much happier. :)

Tried this spot yesterday while in the area with the BF. We are always up for trying new teriyaki joints! Read a lot of reviews and went for the beef, chicken, and veggie bowl with brown rice. The bf ordered the beef and chicken plate and replaced the oranges and salad with extra veggies. The girl at the register was super patient with us as we were inquiring about the menu and sizes of things. It was not busy also so that helped with her patience, I’m sure. We ordered and sat ourselves in the very clean dining area. All tables were complete with sriracha sauce, hot sauce, and teriyaki sauce in bottles ready to be consumed. About 10 – 15 minutes later, our food was served! The bowl was huge and plate and big, too! I think for the price, the bowl is actually a good value(you just seem to get slightly more with the plate only). Overall, the chicken and beef were good. They had the right amount of char to it and still both meats tasted very tender still. The flavor of the meats were not as flavorful as I had hoped but the teriyaki sauce def helped here. The best feature of the dish were the steamed veggies! lol The whole dish was tasty– don’t get me wrong. But I LOVED how the veggies were steamed to a crisp and not overdone to a mushy state like a lot of joints do with the steamed veggies. I would definitely return if near the area, again. Awesome service for a healthy, nutritious meal! Oh, YES, brown rice was ONLY $ 0.25 extra!!! SCOOOOORE! This palce is clean, prompt, a great value, and awesome service!

I’m staying down the road at the best western and was in need of a quick healthy meal. If I’m at home a routine lunch is rice, chicken and veggies so when I saw this place I thought I’d give it a try. Glad I did! Got the chicken plate which was around $ 8.00. It comes with about two cups of white rice and I’d say 8ish oz of chicken with a side salad and fruit. The meat is pretty good quality. Not 100% breast unfortunately… But I only had one or two small pieces of fat I did to eat around. Not like a lot of teriyaki joints where you get weird grey grizzly meat. This had a great flame broiler taste too. I asked them to leave the sauce off the plate and just added myself(on the tables they have teriyaki, siraracha and another hot sauce). I thought overall it was a great meal and if I lived in the area I would definitely frequent this place! Give it a try!

Got a veggie bowl but all my coworkers got chicken veggie bowls and they said it tasted delicious. They give Good portions, fast service and options for brown rice. It’s a very clean establishment. I will have to come back and try the rest of the menu.

Its kinda like flame broiler but there are way more options. They have sandwiches now which I found interesting. I usually go with the rice and beef or chicken. I like the rice here a bit more than at flame broiler and the ribs/beef I think is a lot better. They give you quality meat unlike their competitors. The chicken is about the same. Its pretty good, nothing too fancy but a great pick up for a simplified lunch or if you are in a rush. The service is friendly and quick. The food totals under 10 bucks so you really get a good deal. The place is decent in size. There are a couple of seatings but it usually never gets overpacked. The ambiance is warm despite being in between a liquor store and a laundry mat. Personally I think the plate is a bit more overprice so I would go with the bowl. They fill you up just about the same in my opinion. Only difference is the plate comes with fruits(oranges). Overall its a great meal for lunch/dinner. Top notch management and service. Food is what you pay for most of the time. And most importantly its within walking distance from my house so major bonus points for that. PS I shall return to try these sandwiches I see on Unilocal

Don’t come for burgers, but for bowl or plate combos kinda healthyish? I kind of expected more of this place… maybe because whenever I hear the word Umami, I think of Umami Burger, which is associated with high quality. This spot is a far cry… more of a quick grab-‘n-go spot. There are only a few items on the menu: chicken, beef, short ribs, and mahi mahi. Each of the meats can be served in various ways: on a combo plate, in a bowl over rice, in a bowl over rice and veg, in a sammich, in a salad, or a la carte. You’d expect that a place with only 4 items served in a variety of ways would be AWESOME at those 4 things, right? Mmmm, it was OK. Not awful, but not great… about what I could quickly stir-fry at home if I had 15 min to spare before catching an episode of Walking Dead. I’d probably come here a lot if I was working in the area and wanted a pretty balanced meal with some veg, but I wouldn’t go out if my way.

Super close to my house! I think they had a switch in ownership though but their food is still pretty good! The price is a bit more expensive than what I would like but if you’re craving it. It definitely satisfies it! You can have an option or white or brown rice. I usually get the beef because it’s not too dry and it goes great with my rice. The eating around is pretty spacious except for when the sun is facing the store, better be sitting away from the windows! It’s right between a laundry mat and 711, so you can do laundry and have lunch too! Would recommend to others!

My boyfriend’s house is literally only 5 minute away and I was craving teriyaki, so we tried this place and I can definitely say this place beats yogi and flame broiler. I ordered beef teriyaki bowl and it was in chunks unlike other teriyaki places that gives you ground-like beef! My bf ordered the chicken teriyaki and he couldn’t finish. They give you generous amounts of meat and rice. Keep in mind that we only ordered the bowl. Unlike other teriyaki places, they don’t use plastic container if you eat there. And the prices is like any other teriyaki place, but better quality and quantity. Also, the owners were like pop and mom. When we entered, they were sitting at the tables and they greet and smiled. Pop walked to the convenient store next door and when we left to our car, he was walking back and he said thank you and smiled.

I come here quite often on my lunch breaks(at least once a week) and always order the same thing. I get the Chicken and veggie bowl with brown rice and love it every single time. It taste better and more fresh than Waba and Flame Broiler and i always feel good after i eat here. So whenever I’m in a mood for teriyaki, rice, chicken and veggies, this place comes to mind and never dissapoints. Excellent!
