Cozy Venue | Good Metal Show $ I drove 2 hours to see The Contortionist here. It was a prog metal show on Easter Sunday, and I must say that I had a pretty good time. I paid $ 17 for the ticket. No line to get in, which was a plus. No line for the women’s restroom either, another plus.(Probably because there’s not very many females at metal shows anyway) No problems with security. The venue is small but cozy. I was dead wrong thinking there wasn’t going to be any circle pits because of the limited amount of space, especially with wooden beams taking up some amount of space. Some people from UC Davis showed up and much of the crowd were locals. I will say that there was this guy and girl who started the pit a couple times, and the girl was incredibly rude. She would literally punch people on the edge of the circle. Some people would push her back. I’ve been to quite a few metal shows where people aren’t dicks punching people who arent participating in the pit. I was a little shocked here. Sound was so-so, at least for the opening acts. One of the openers had the guitarist turned way up, which kind of drowned out every other instrument on stage. BUT, The Contortionist was amazing as usual! They reserve the front parking spaces for the bands. We parked across the street at the dirt lot. One thing to note is the air flow in this place. I stood underneath the air vent and was actually cold! :P A good thing when it’s a packed venue.

Nice intimate venue but the Sound guy should stay off of his phone and pay attention that all you heard is bass and not enough of the singers being drowned out!!! I don’t know if I will make another long trip back out there again.

My girl and I attended a Reggae show 3/16.We were a little worried because of some of the bad reviews we read. We arrived early and got exellent seats. The security was great, the bartenders were fast, the beer selection was good and cold and my Girl liked her mixed drinks. The show started pretty much on time and all four acts were outstanding and because of the intimate setting we got to meet and take pictures with the headliner acts. Great time and we will be back again. Thanks Boardwalk!

I was a little apprehensive about headed out after reading all of the bad review, not to mention that it’s way out in BFE. I was attending a show with my daughter, making me even more nervous. The conclusions that I came to were: 1. The people that had trouble with security were probably being jerks. Jerks tend to get treated bad by security, and I tend to have minimal sympathy. 2. I am too old to go to club shows. The lack of seating and nearly unbearable heat really diminished my enjoyment of the show. Doors opened at 7, but the opening band didn’t start playing until 8:30. Yikes. 3. The heat. Omg the heat. For a sold out show, people were packed in there wall to wall and it was nearly unbearable. There has to be something that can be improved in there. Even the artist made mention of it. I can imagine that some reviews were heavily influenced by how uncomfortable it can get in there. All that being said, I thought the staff was wonderful, and the sound quality was surprisingly good. The drinks were about on par with what I’d expect, 5 $ bud in a bottle, 8 $ simple mixed drinks. The bartenders were attentive, friendly, and quick. Even more importantly there were plenty of them to handle a sold out show. Even better, there are 3 stalls in the ladies room, and it was in decent condition. I remember far too many days standing in a line 10 ladies deep to use the ONE stall at the Press Club(never again). Tips: –Unless you’re a front row junkie, don’t bother going early. –Enjoy a good bar and VERY affordable snacks(no health food, but what you need at a bar, ex: 6 $ for chicken strips and fries). –Parking is tricky, so don’t anticipate pulling up in front, especially if you’re read tip 1. –Standing in the back is going to get you access to fresh air, which you’re going to need. –Remember that you’re in a dive bar style club show venue, and adjust your expectations.

This place has gone way down hill! I used to feel decently safe, despite some sketchy people & situations BUT last night a friend of mine was singled out by security. I saw a security guard take his security shirt off & grab my friend from behind, harshly tossing him around & punching him in the back of the head & the face. My friend is about 6 feet tall & weighs a whopping 145 pounds & I was just standing there, watching people«dance»(bump into each other). I have no clue why he would single my friend out. Super sketchy that he would take his work shirt off before tossing him around & punching him in the face. I’m making sure everyone I know knows this story; I would hate for anyone else I love to be treated this way. I hope this place gets it together or gets shut down.

Sadly, went here for the Poly Shore comedy show tonight(he was amazing as always), but if your going to have a comedy show they need to get on people being so loud. We had to leave half way through Poly’s set. We couldn’t hear over the talking behind us. Needless to say might go back for a concert but that is a big might.

Packed crowd, way in the back and can’t hear a thing. Here to see some stand up comics. It’s tough to enjoy the show when you can’t hear it.

If you are an adult don’t go here to see a band you can’t leave the property and go to your car I’ll go anywhere and come back. I think this club is more for kids under 18 I can’t stand being treated like a kid when I pay money to see a band. I saw GBH here and Angry Samoans. Good shows but fucked up bouncers.

Really cool place with a bunch of diverse range of music. It is a bar however, which means it gets hot really fast when there’s a show going on. Drinks are good although they didn’t have cream for a White Russian. I was surprised they had food, typical bar food, but still satisfied me until the end of the show. Been coming here since high school so it’s more of a throwback spot for me. Never had a bad experience. Just beware the heat!

On-point sound and responsive staff made The Boardwalk a venue I’d like to return to see some shows at, but they need more seating and promoter control. I came in for a reggae show back in April on a Tuesday night(weird scheduling due to a tour). While the promoter billed it as an early 8pm show, the bad didn’t play until well after 10pm. Note that their license only goes until 11pm on weeknights. They did provide info when asked, but could have made announcements or otherwise called the show instead of the disaster of a concert. The bars seemed well-managed, but I was drinking water. I was stoked that they provided easy access to free water. Security was friendly and gave a good sense of control of the night. They quietly escorted a few too inebriated patrons out to get air. Lovely wall paper a-la-1800’s. Very good sound, no echo or bleeding. I had wanted a seat and ended up on the floor for an hour or so, I think they should definitely add enough seating for at least all the ladies that show up. Overall the sound quality, free cold water and friendly staff and management make The Boardwalk a place I’m likely to want to see shows at in the future.

Ok, where do I begin??? First of all. I’m not a ANAL person. I give kudos where they’re due. But this time I’m pissed. First time here. First of all, get here early for parking. The security had all spaces locked off. I had to park across the street, and hope not to get hit by cars. Beyond that, it was cute, clean spot, bathroom as well. It reminded me of a Saloon. I used to go to the infamous Mikey Gilley’s bar in Texas. A «Honky Tonk,» per se. Well, the time the doors were«supposed», to open was 7:30pm. I said«Good– I’m early». I was so excited to see a great band such as Morgan Heritage-Reggae is hard to find here. It wasn’t that big of a crowd, but it was ok. Sadly to say, the doors didn’t open till 9:00pm! «Security», just sat & talked to each and didn’t inform anyone of anything or if the bands were still setting up. We all waited patiently in the cold. Great! Doors open– its 9:15pm.Ugh! Went straight to bar to get a drink. I was so parched. But, they have a rude, obnoxious bartender that needs Customer Service drilled in his butt! He passed me up 3-times and waited on everyone else. I kept telling him, but he by-passed me again! Only when a patron said something, he decided to serve me. Serious Attitude! There seemed to be no organization there at all. No management to direct where to go or sit, hopefully, you’ll be one of the lucky ones’, to sit at a table. Good Luck finding one. Now, I know what all the reviews meant when they said this was a DIVE. Okay…Music time. Yayyyy! There was a female band that performed. The music came on loud & clear. Then, Morgan Heritage came on after 10:00p.m! I stood right upfront, took great pixs, and they sounded great as well as the bass. Morgan Heritage apparently had a issue with mgmt. & decided to leave after 20⁄30 min set. What a shame. Everyone demanded they’re money back. It was a sad nite overall. I don’t think this is the place for me. ;(

Went to See Mod Sun last night(3÷24÷15). All the staff was friendly. Bartender was great. It was a small crowd… maybe 125 – 150 people. We were easily the oldest people there by 15+ years. Crowd was young and having a good time. Bathrooms were clean enough. My expectations were exceeded based on all the previous dismal reviews. 16 oz Sierra Nevada was $ 5, which seemed fine.

The security is a bunch of prick assholes who think they can do whatever they want to whoever they want. My boyfriend was almost unconscious from the security throwing him in a choke hold for NOREASON across the entire venue then throwing out the front door like trash. Also the inside is disgusting and the bathrooms look like people have just shit everywhere and no one has ever cleaned it up. Idk how this place is still running.

Yes this place is a dive bar. So prepare yourself for that. The bartender, tall and blonde, was super nice. She memorized my boyfriend and mines order. Which is always a sweet gesture. However, for being a dive bar I expected much cheaper drinks. Drinks were 6 – 7 dollars each which might of been because a band was playing that night. I also got a beer on tap and it was super flat and disgusting. So maybe avoid on tap beers and stick to the bottles! I wouldn’t go out of my way to go here, but if a good band is playing I wouldn’t keep the bad reviews from keeping you from coming.

Old staple of the north side for music. Review is because of how old and outdated the club is. Still cash only at the bar, etc. Don’t touch anything in the bathroom. I have been here a hundred times and will probably go another hundred over the years, but it still makes me wonder why the haven’t modernized and cleaned up over the times. I do find myself going less and less. Skipping shows to see them at a different venue somewhere else. CARRYCASH and wipes for your hands. They do book really good bands.

Been to several concerts over the years here. Last night we saw Saving Abel. Definitely had a good time but I can say that man I am deaf. The music was beyond deafening. I get it, its a concert, but still crazy loud. The bathrooms were completely atrocious and they charged for water. The pricing is pretty much a joke. The tickets were«$ 15 in advance on the website, $ 18 day off at door» …except that online they charge $ 3/ticket for processing. So it’s the same price either way. The money isn’t the issue, just that it’s not honest pricing. I doubt we’ll be going back unless its a completely kickass band we just CANNOT miss.
