I was down in OP and drove past Abbott’s Custard and decided to stop in based on a recommendation from a friend. The order was for a small pumpkin and a small chocolate almond. The ice cream was great and the serving size was pretty generous for a small. I would say it is superior to the Northtown favorite Andersons’.

After dinner one day, we decided to drive here to get some frozen custard. The shop was nice and clean, bright and sterile. Given I was already full, I only ordered a single order of the coffee custard in a dish. The frozen custard was interesting, it was smoother than ice cream, but aside from the texture, it was pretty much the same. So why the 3 stars? Well, as much as I enjoyed my dessert experience, once again, this shop doesn’t seem to have something that would set it apart from other ice cream shops. The flavors were limited; when we visited, there were only 6 flavors of custard available. Now, would I drive all the way from the Northtowns to get custard if I only have 6 flavors to choose from? It would be different if they had 100 flavors, now that’s amazing. So yes, the custard is amazing, but it is not amazing enough. They’re doing things right, but nothing pushes me to pick them over all the other dessert shops that have equally good offerings that are nearer to me.
