We had breakfast here on Saturday and it was nothing to write home about. My boyfriend had the Chicken Fried Steak and he did not like it at ALL! He said it was bland and he could have bought the same thing anywhere else. I had the California Omlette and it was fine. We would have gone to Yvonne’s but they don’t serve liquor yet and we wanted Bloody Marys. Speaking of, the Bloody was pretty good — the bacon was fresh but it wasn’t worth the $ 8 dollars. We left and went to Coney Island for a twice as good $ 3 dollar Bloody. Yeah, it’s a different atmosphere but my point is the cost. Next time we’ll just go to Yvonne’s. We won’t go back to Caufield House again.

I’m still not sure about all the negative reviews. People are harsh and I’d love to see what they’re comparing it to. I’ve had weak service all over the Portland area searching for a good breakfast and this place is one of my favorites. The open feel of this place is refreshing and roomy. It’s like sitting outside while eating inside. Wait staff is always so friendly. My food has always been hot and delicious. Never had to wait to sit, just walk in, pick a spot and order. To be fair, I’ve never come here just for the coffee, just food. Personally we love this place and will continue to come back. We drive 40 miles each way to have breakfast here. Try it, you’ll love it!

This place has so much potential. It’s a cute restaurant in a great location on Main Street, but unfortunately their food and service fall flat. The server was nice enough, but she was terrible at her job. It didn’t seem like she knew what she was doing at all and was really awkward whenever she came to our table. It took 35 minutes for waffles and an omelette. We actually chose those items because we know they should take minutes to cook. After 25 minutes, my husband went in to say we’re in a hurry, is there an estimate on when this will be ready? She said just a few more minutes. He saw my waffles sitting under a heat warmer. 10 minutes later our food came out. So, my waffles were sitting under that thing for at least 10 minutes and his order was incorrect. We took it anyway even when she said the cook could«whip it up again really quick». We knew better. Waffles were crunchy thanks to sitting under that lamp and the fruit was the frozen variety — very soggy. Blech. What a waste of money. I don’t cook many thing, but I do know I can do simple waffles much better than that. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Gosh, I really really wanted to like this place! I’ve given it many chances on multiple occasions because we live close, and want a family friendly place to go on the weekend for breakfast or lunch. Great location with lots of windows, cool historical photos of OC, TV for the sports fan, trivial pursuit, and lots of options for food. But…today was unfortunately the last straw. –Our waitress was kind, but seemed frazzled because it was a little busy(Saturday, at lunch). This happens every time. They always seem understaffed… and«busy» even when there aren’t a ton of people. –Our waitress brought me the wrong sandwich. Normally this isn’t a big deal at all(accidents happen), but we had just seen the same happen to the table next to us… and she didn’t write our order down, so we were almost expecting it. –Food was not great. Medium portions. Warm, but not hot. Toast was over-toasted/not a great bread to use for toast or toasted sandwiches. My gums are sore from the bread(you know the kind)…and it seemed pretty slapped together. The cook may have been pissed the waitress gave the wrong order… I don’t know… but my husband wasn’t impressed with his either. Overall, we always seem to leave bummed out. We won’t be returning. Sad, because OC needs more restaurant options, and we love to support small businesses.

I got a bad first impression with this place. Stopped in for a mango smoothie walking with my kids, and for five dollars was given mango juice from a jug, blended up with ice. If this is the quality of product that they put out, I don’t think I want to try their food.

Just got back from lunch at Caufield House — although we all had breakfast items. I was a bit concerned coming here after reading all the poor/mediocre reviews. But we were looking for something our son might be ok eating at in the Oregon City«downtown» area. We were greeted quickly when we entered, given menus and allowed to sit where we wanted to. We started to sit outside, but the weather was suboptimal, so we moved inside. The service was decent, and the food was good. Nice biscuits and croissants(cut in half and warmed on the grill). My daughter loved the vanilla steamed milk in an oversized mug, so my son had to get one too.(Ages 11 and 14). Coffee was good. Side of potatoes and bacon were very yummy. The only thing was there seemed to be only one waitress today, but she was working her tail off trying to cover the tables.(The place was only about 1⁄3 full.) Normally, I’d give them 4 stars, but I wanted to offset all of the low scores I read prior to going. It’s probably hit-or-miss depending on who the wait person is. I imagine places like this have a decent amount of turn-over. Anyways, we enjoyed the food an location and will come again.

This place is so adorable and quaint it’s too bad their service and food aren’t a little better. Kind of ignored us as we came in but when we figured out we were to seat ourselves they were friendly upon taking our order. My husband and I split an order called The Homestyle, comes with home fried potatoes on the bottom that weren’t even hot and even though they were fried it seemed like it was done the night before or something. On top of that they stack a split biscuit, eggs, sausage(we substituted bacon) and sausage gravy smothering the whole thing. It was actually quite tasty in spite of the fact that the potatoes were barely warm. The biscuits were light and flaky, the bacon was great, but another problem was the biscuits were under so many other things that they didn’t get soaked with gravy like they are supposed to. It was big enough to share for sure, we couldn’t finish it all. Our son had a kids breakfast plate that comes with Mickey Mouse pancake, strawberries and scrambled eggs. Yes, he’s 19. They forgot to bring the eggs with the meal and when he asked for them they brought a huge plate of scrambled eggs and charged us extra. By that time he was full and only ate about two bites. I don’t think they know what they are doing back there, it took forever and a day. The loud country music was a huge turn off and we almost walked out immediately because of that. Probably won’t ever be back since there are many better places around here.

I have gone to Caufield house for over 2 years now and I am disappointed with their lack of service. They are overpriced and 90% of the time my order is wrong. I have officially given up on them now. I think the reason might be their turnover on their staff… they are never properly trained, however they are all generally nice, their service is sub par.

Worst Mother’s Day brunch ever! Cold flavorless food terrible clueless service and COMPLETELY overpriced at $ 22 per person. We used to be Caulfield House breakfast regulars and after this experience dont think I will EVER be back.

Lame. Weak, watery coffee. And it’s a coffee shop. A breakfast burrito that did not please my husband. And when I ordered oatmeal, I was directed to choose from three plastic containers which the server placed in a microwave and gave to me with a spoon. Could not even be bothered to put the instant oatmeal(hardly what was advertised or purchased) in a bowl? No amount of cute courthouse themed product names(café is next door to the courthouse) can make up for the weak, weak offerings. Hit a Starbucks or, better yet, Yvonne’s or Shari’s instead.

I’m pretty sure I already wrote a review for this place but it appears it was deleted soooo this one will be short and sweet. We have been a few times for breakfast. Coffee is good. My boys like the breakfast burritos which are served daily but please note they only serve full breakfasts,(like my favorite the bacon, eggs and toast), on weekends. Lots of quick grab and go items. Service has always been pleasant.

I’ve got a like/hate relationship with Caufield. Most of the time it leans closer to hate, and yet I still find myself in there a couple times a week. I work right next to Caufield, and since Oregon City’s main street is lacking in food and coffee options, I’m a frequent customer. The coffee isn’t very good. The menu only has about three vegetarian meal options– two of which involve hummus. The bagels are sub-par, and the baked goods are hit or miss. Don’t bother with the breakfast burritos– for $ 9 you will get a soggy pool of grease. Yet, the location is great. The spot boasts a ton of seating, and the people that work there are ever-delightful and enjoyable. With a few menu tweaks, this place could really be something. Right now, I’ll go, however reluctantly.

I came half hour before 12 pm. Serve no more breakfast at this time. We end up ordering bagel with cream cheese, I love how the cream cheese abundantly presented, the coffee too acidic. Hot coco had plenty whip cream, good I like that,

We stopped in for breakfast before taking family to the airport. So glad we did. The woman at the counter who took our order was very friendly and accommodating. The food was really good. The breakfast burrito was larger than expected, in a good way. We weren’t sure if it would be enough, turns out, it’s enough for two people to share. Plain coffee was delicious-this coming from the non-coffee drinker in our group. As we left, we decided that We may have to make this a regular stop before taking friends and family to the airport.

I ate lunch here for the first time two weeks ago and was not a fan. The roast beef dip sandwich was very dry and half the cheese was melted off the bread. I had to ask for the au jus and the server brought out less than half a bowl stating it was the last of it, but if I needed more she«would go downstairs if she had to.» It was extremely salty,(probably because it was the bottom of the batch) so I definitely didn’t ask for more. I left still hungry as I did not eat most of my meal with a not so happy taste in my mouth. I have a rule to try everything twice so I came back today hoping that maybe I had just caught a bad day. I called ahead to be sure that my dog would be welcome on their patio and was assured he would be. When I arrived, I sat at an open table out front(in direct line of sight of the counter) and waited for over 20 minutes without any acknowledgment. There were quite a few full tables but no one was at the counter the entire time I waited. Due to having my dog I was unable to go inside to order so I was about to leave. I had already paid for parking and was starving so decided I would phone them, explain my situation, and see if they could serve me outside. The exasperated girl that answered the phone made me feel like a complete idiot for asking. After sighing loudly into the phone(all the while making eye contact with me) she stated she would bring me a menu. She hung up and I then had the joy of listening to her and her co worker talk about my request, stating very loudly«you have got to be kidding me!» «whatever…» When my menu finally arrived, I apologized profusely for being a pain in the rear. The server who brought me my menu then stated, «Well, as you can see, we’re in the middle of a jury order so it’s not very convenient for us to have to serve you on the patio.» Apparently 12 o’clock is not the best time to come here for lunch as they are directly across the street from the courthouse and I understand that now, but she could have been much more pleasant about explaining this to me. She then walked away without even asking if I would like something to drink stating«I’ll be out when I can to get your order.» over her shoulder. After sitting with the menu for another 15 minutes without any service, I finally got up and walked next door to The Verdict. They were almost as busy with lunch time traffic, but their server greeted me with a smile and a water bowl for my dog. After a second awful experience, I will not be returning to this establishment. Sad, as there is a limited amount of good lunch spots in Oregon City, but I refuse to pay to be treated this way. *Second star only added due to the managers response after I called and spoke with her regarding this incident. On both occasions it was the same server, I truly hope some customer service training occurs asap.*

Great brunch spot! The coffee is excellent and they give you nice big mugs — no skimping here! The regular old eggs & meat style breakfast was just fine, hits the spot and gives you exactly what you want. The chicken-fried steak was the standout here. Crispy on the outside, moist and tender on the inside, and smothered with plenty of peppery gravy. If you are going to have a heart attack on a plate it may as well be delicious. Seating area is cozy and the service was perfect; Sunday laid back, but drinks were kept full.

We sat outside on a beautiful day, but the way their walls open you really could sit inside and still have the feeling of being outdoors. We visited on a Saturday when their full menu was available. I had the bacon, mushroom, Swiss omlette which was awesome. The ingredients tasted very fresh, plus they also have a full bar and were making delicious looking bloody Mary’s. Glad we stopped by and tried something new.

I went to Caufield House often when I was living in Oregon City. Convenience location, good service, the staff was friendly. On the nice day you can just sit outside and enjoy the sun. :) I plan to get my lunch quiche here next week. Who is in? :)

All of the elements are in place. Great location Stumptown coffee A warm and welcoming environment Friendly service This recently opened coffeehouse and deli is next door to The Verdict Bar & Grill across from the courthouse. They have the same owners, same kitchen and both are welcome additions to downtown Oregon City. While The Verdict is open for lunch and dinner, this location caters to the morning crowd and they have a number of breakfast entrees as well as bakery items. While I had very high hopes walking in, my food and coffee weren’t quite as wonderful as I was expecting. But, I’m more than willing to return because I have a feeling that I haven’t experienced the best they have to offer.
