We had fish here on a Friday and it was really good. Can’t speak to the rest of the menu, but the fish fry is great. You can have cod(baked or deep fried), lake perch, walleye, shrimp or the sampler platter. The platter has cod both ways, perch and shrimp. Sides are baby potatoes, fries or baked potato and a choice of salad or cole slaw. They also had 3 different soups to add if you wanted. The place was crowded, but we sat right down and had a beverage and then ordered. Fish came out quickly and was hot and crispy! Two of us ordered perch and one ordered the baked cod(I of course needed to sample the cod) and they were all huge servings and very tasty. The cod is so good, I will be having that the next time we eat here. Way better than most baked cod I have ever had. You also get a non-descript grocery store roll that I promptly gave away. We are always looking for good places for fish and this will definitely be on our list to return to!

Perched on the corner of MM& Braun, I’d driven past Hack’s a few times prior but never paid it much attention — my mistake, because it’s a hidden gem. My first visit to Hack’s was as part of the Mad Wreckin’ Dolls Friends & Family After Party event this past Saturday. Many, many thanks go out to Hack’s for their hospitality — they were such super hosts. There’s nothing quite like seeing the derby pack descend on an establishment, post-bout. Hack’s handled the deluge with aplomb. The inside lends itself to a rustic/northwoodsy feel, with heavy timbers, high ceilings, and plenty of natural light thanks to the numerous skylights. Seating is abundant — there are booths along both sides of the facility; family-style seating in the middle. The bar isn’t huge, but it looks like it would seat around 20. Nice selection of daily drink specials; we stuck primarily with taps of beer, of which there were approximately 8 – 10. The tap selection was heavy on mainstream domestics, but did have a few nice surprises, including Three Floyds Gumballhead. Pitcher & bottle prices were more than reasonable. A small kitchen hangs off the back of the bar; we could see the lone cook working his magic with precision and efficiency. How that guy was able to crank out so much food was a bit of a mystery, but my hat’s off to him. Everything was superb. We ordered a couple of the Saturday lunch specials — cheeseburgers with fries. Both were ordered medium; both arrived exactly medium. The fries were plentiful, hot, and nice and crispy. A bargain at $ 5.95 for the basket. Service from the barkeeps was outstanding the entire time. We never wanted or waited for anything. The bartenders were also extremely friendly and helpful — kudos! The next time I find myself in Oregon, I’ll be sure to visit Hack’s. It’s super clean, very reasonable, offers good food and great service. What more could you ask for?
