I stopped in here a few times when I first got into photography(before I knew any better). After shopping other stores and having other experiences to compare my shopping experience at Allen’s to, I realized just how bad their service is. Their prices on lenses and camera bodies are about par compared to other stores, but as far as peripherals, they’ll try to push this Promaster brand on you. For simple things like a remote trigger or something, if it works and won’t fry my camera, great, but for things like lens filters and other items where quality matters, I prefer better quality, which they don’t offer. Recently I looked all over for a Cokin filter ring that would fit one of my lenses. I tried all the major shops, and out of desperation I stopped in Allen’s. They did have it in stock and I was excited, but the girl who showed me where they were responded in a very condescending tone as if it was uncouth for me to show some excitement about finding something and trying to tell them how great it was they had it in stock. Most recently, I desperately needed a print done so I stopped in the shop. I know they do custom prints and I needed to talk to someone about options for print sizes. They just pointed us to a computer and ignored us. There were three or four guys helping the one guy at the counter buying a camera, but no one would bother to look at us while we ordered a print. I think they assumed I just wanted standard 4×6 prints of vacation photos or something. After a couple minutes we walked out and I drove to Sandy to have another shop handle the print job for me.

Allen’s Camera is a pretty good one-stop shop for all your photography needs. They sell cameras and camera equipment like bags and tripods, and they offer film development and printing. The staff was friendly to me and got my ordered done on time and as promised. Seemed like a good enough shop to me and frankly, the previous reviewer Casey seems like she is overreacting A LOT. If I had one compliant to levy against Allen’s Camera it would be that it seemed like their store and the products sold were more geared towards hobbyists and amateurs. They didn’t carry a lot of professional equipment, be it lighting or supports like tripods. Most of their gear was hobbyist quality and price. Similar to what you’d find at Inkley’s or Ritz Camera. While there is nothing wrong with that necessarily you should just be aware that they may not have everything you’re looking for.

I came here to get my passport photo. A friend recommended I go to AAA because as a member, you get a good deal on passport photos. They told me $ 10. I called Allen’s to see how much they charged — only $ 8.50 including tax. The only bad thing was that I took my picture right next to the window when the sun was shining through, which made me look like the pastiest thing ever. I didn’t get a good look at my pictures until they were developed, and boy do they look like crap. Oh well, it only has to last me 10 years, right? Helpful and friendly staff. For some reason there were like 15 people working at the time I went… strange. I think I’ll refer people there… just get your passport pictures taken a little later in the day when you don’t look as creepy and pasty.
