Great guy, very friendly and seems caring. Foot problem was pain and aching near arch and he just told me I have a high arch and need to buy better shoes. Didn’t provide enough information for me to find the right kind of shoes but I did my best. Almost a year later my foot pain is back and I went to FootWorks in Walnut Creek which was much more helpful.

Dr Handworker is wonderful, he has tons of experience say 45+ I am guessing, he has a tool shop and makes does inserts etc while you wait. unlike the younger doctors. He is up beat and positive and happy which was so refreshing to see, what a nice personality being around him made me feel up beat myself, he is terrific at his job too

I’m a professional dog walker and spend 3 – 4 hours walking/hiking every day, so, the health of my feet is super important to me. Another dog walker who had been helped by him suggested I make an appt. with Dr. Handwerker. I’ve seen him three times in the last year for foot pain. He’s done x-rays on my feet, and it turns out that I have extra bone growth on the right foot from the heel out toward my toes and also up my ankle toward my achilles tendon. Dr Handwerker’s treatment has included his injecting my right foot with cortizone, taping my foot, advice on footwear and he has also given me cushioned inserts for my shoes. He’s also given me a program of self-case, and, when I follow everything he tells me to do, I have little to no pain. The challenge for me is that when the pain goes away, so does my motivation to wrap my foot in an Ace bandage before hiking and roll it around on a ball on the floor, so sometimes the pain comes back for a bit before I clue in and get back on the program. Bottom line: he has designed a good program for me and given me really good care. Thanks, Dr. Handwerker!

Schools Out for Summer! er. Winter — Sorry Alice. So after school and just in time for the Holidays, my son and I were off to the Podiatrist to address a double ingrown toe nail on his other big toe. After awhile, soaking with Epsom salts and water(and with a peroxide finish) only gets you so far. But I was previously willing to go with it, as my son has a low tolerance for any medically-induced pain. Interestingly enough, that pain aversion doesn’t extend to dentistry, although I haven’t rented«Marathon Man» yet! Dr. Handwerker(and his assistant) had a patient, friendly and understanding approach to my son’s unease. And I was impressed on how well my son«sucked it up» and got through the procedure. The other thing that might have kept him going, was Gayle’s promise to take him to Build A Bear afterward. The only time Dr. Handwerker got a little impatient was when my son got chatty after the procedure and the good doctor insisted nicely that they mutual respect each other in terms of talking and listening in turn. The good Doctor was very confident and precise in what he was doing and his post-care instructions to me were very clear. Dr. Handwerker’s Office is within an easy stroll of everything that is Downtown Orinda. It is located on the roof area of the Mechanic’s Bank Building(across from Wells Fargo). Plentiful parking was available and access off and back onto Highway 24 was easy.
