I have been coming here for 3 years and I feel very good about the knowledge, expertise, and care I receive. I have seen all three optometrists, Dr, Hale, Dr, Eng and Dr Shintani and they are all very thorough and caring. This week I lost my glasses and they were able to get me in the next day, do a complete exam and put a rush on my glasses. Not only excellent doctors, but really pleasant people. No bedside manner problems here!

Excellent care and service. There is a nice selection of frames to choose from, and very attentive service especially from Ronnie. The office remodel and some upgrades make a better environment to go to. Equipment appears clean and well-​maintained.

This has been my go-​to optometrist for the past 8 years and the service they provide is excellent. I called Monday to make and appointment and they got me in for an exam on Wednesday of that same week. I would recommend this place to any and all of my friends who are looking for a honest and professional optometrist in the Orinda/​Moraga area.

The have top class optometric equipment to ensure your eye site is accurately measured. They have a wide variety of glasses. I’ve been wearing the same squared style glasses since 2010 and have the lenses changed once to improve my vision. Dr. Shintani is second to none

I’ve been going to Dr. Eng and Dr. Shintani for over 10 years and really can’t say enough about the level of service and the professionalism of the office. They carry a nice selection of branded high quality frames and I’ve always been able to find something that I like. My wife is a client too and she shares my view — we both would highly recommend the office if you’re in the market for an exam, contacts or some new frames.

I went to Dr. Lewis for the first time after not having seen an optometrist for a long time. He is very professional and did a very thorough exam. He explained everything quite well and their prices were very reasonable for an exam that lasted 1.5 hours. He even called my boyfriend after the appointment to explain his findings.

I really enjoy getting my eyes checked here. The doctors and Ronnie are great. Ronnie is a dear, and his personality is so calm a and soothing. I would have given a 5 star rating before all the new office staff was hired. If you don’t mind chatty, loud, and busy office staff while you’re waiting, this is a fine choice.
Also, don’t let any of the office staff other than Ronnie sell you frames. Seriously.

I went to this office hoping to have them swap out a pair of lenses from a pair of readers that I bought with a new pair of prescription lenses. I am actually a patient of this practice, though I have never been to it before because my doctor merged his practice with this group a year or so ago. They didn’t know that I was a patient when I walked in. One of the doctors (not mine) offered to help me, until she found out that I wanted a new pair of lenses in a pair of readers. She said that they could not do that, but then she offered to sell me a pair of frames. I told her that my insurance coverage benefit did not include frames this year, so I was not interested in buying frames right now. After that, she showed no interest in me at all. Had she known I was a patient of the practice, maybe she would have treated me differently? Their loss, because I then went over to the other Orinda optometrist who takes my insurance, Visual Entrée in Theatre Sqaure, and they were happy to do it!

The people working here are very friendly, but the prices here are higher than you can find at Costco.
I bought a pair of glasses here for $ 189 (before insurance and discounts were applied). The weekend after I bought them I went to Costco and happened to walk through their optometry section. I found a similar pair of glasses for $ 50 (before insurance would be applied).
The prices Costco charged for the lenses were much cheaper. Though to be fair, Orinda Optometry’s contacts prices were just about equal to Costco’s.
I can’t see myself coming back for anything other than an eye appointment knowing I can get the same service much cheaper elsewhere.

I am very pleased with the Optometrists. I felt that they were very friendly, thorough and careful. The pricing seemed reasonable.
When I raised a concern, Dr. Eng proactively resolved the issue and came up with a solution that went the extra mile to make my problem go away.

I went here for years for both contacts and glasses, and always had a very positive experience. As I got older I found their selection of lenses to be limited, but the staff and doctors make it worth your while to get your eye exam and prescription here.

I have struggled with looking at a computer screen for over 20 years. It has been so bad recently, that my eye strain led to bouts of vertigo and spinning (spinning where you can’t see anything, which then leads to vomiting). I have a number of diagnoses (among them, Meniere’s disease), but my eyes have always felt like the part that’s failing.
I called Orinda Optometry at the end of two horrible weeks. The receptionist was incredibly empathetic and patient, carefully capturing all of my details to relay urgently to the doctor. I had to cancel an appointment with very little notice, because I got an attack of vertigo. Instead of being annoyed, they were patient, and Dr. Eng took the time to call me, to see if she could help via the phone. They then fit me in on very short notice, and in my appointment, Dr. Eng clearly was thinking broadly about my history and what the variables were (what she could play with to make things better).
Dr. Eng gave me things I could try, free contact lenses to take home, the use of their office computer, so that I could «simulate» my work environment to test possible solutions. She also quickly referred me to UC Berkeley’s School of Optometry, where they work with tough cases.
Finally, I worked again with Nancy, who handles the frames. She suddenly had an insight: that polarized lenses in my sunglasses might not be doing me any good, because, while they have advantages, they also introduce visual distortions, to which I might be very sensitive. She gave me a pair of non-​polarized sunglasses, I sat again in front of her computer, and my eyes felt SO MUCH BETTER. What I need is a tint, and a computer screen with no glare, but perhaps not any RX. It was like being given the antidote to a snake bite from which you have suffered for years and years.
This place is a superb resource, both for everyday needs (my son wears glasses, too) and for extraordinary needs like mine. They really do pay attention to your history, they listen and they work hard to help. I highly highly recommend Orinda Optometry.

Absolutely amazing service (besides the sad sack receptionist).
The doctors & staff were all very attentive & really made the effort to take care of me, they didn’t make me feel like I was bothering them as many medical professionals do.
