Horrible morals, horrible treatment.
Was told to sit and someone would help me. Sat while one banker phoned everyone on their list to ask about refinancing and setting up a loan with them etc… After a half hour of just sitting, I walked up to them and asked them how long I was supposed to wait.
They did apologize at this point and proceeded to help me.
It had seemed I overdrafted, and instead of calling me, like they can put in a phone call to every customer on their list for things of less importance, they sent me a letter. Which by standard mail I would receive approximately 5 days after the initial overdraft. Well it also seems like the charge you $ 5 a day — yes every day — until you pay the overdraft fees, and the daily charges. So by then, HAD I received a letter, it would’ve been an additional $ 35 minimum on top of the $ 35 overdraft fee, and the money I had overdrafted.
Never received a letter, until a month later… You guessed it, a wallop of DAILY overdraft fees. They claimed that it wasn’t their fault, I didn’t receive any letter. It was obviously my fault. This is the branch manager telling me this, not the banker who was actually very kind. The branch manager had a heart about the temperature I like my beers, colder than the Arctic.
The branch manager looked at me and said, «You’re obviously a very bright LITTLE GIRL. You have no idea what this will do to your credit if you choose not to pay it, you won’t be able to get a loan for anything in the future with this on your record.»
What I wanted to say back to her was that this «little girl» of 26, has a credit score of over 780, is preapproved for a home and car loan for whenever I choose to use it, with my bank, a GREAT bank, USAA. They never charge me for overdrafting as long as it is paid immediately, will contact me outside of snail mail, and will always do what they can if something is awry.
Instead, I used my money for textbooks to pay off my account and close it so I never had to walk back into that bank again. It’s a shame. It used to be New Lenox State Bank, which I had an account with since I was about 12, with great customer service. Now they’ve turned into a heartless bank that preys off the mistakes of the less fortunate.
I guess it’d be good to point out that since they changed into Harris Bank, they now charge a quarterly fee to have a savings account. Happy savings :)
