Great addition to AP! We saw this going in and finally had the chance to stop in for a taste test. We happen to go at dinner time so I can only comment on that, although breakfast is on my list to check out one day. This is your typical«diner food» so no real surprises. I ordered a patty melt(odd choice for me but it just sounded good) and I quite enjoyed my indulgence! This is a win in my book and doesn’t hurt that I could walk here if I was feeling energized!

5& Diner is a great addition to the Avalon Park area, as we were missing a true breakfast diner. I love the food here and have never been disappointed in terms of that. Their breakfast potatoes are some of the best I have ever had. Usually the service is slow(the only reason why I gave 4 stars instead of 5) and there is almost always a wait. But all in all, 5& Diner is great and one of my go-to breakfast spots.

Cute place with decent food. It’s a diner – so it has that informal charm and the whole 1950s nostalgia thing. Our waitress even had on a cute poodle skirt. I liked it. I had the veggie burger with onion rings, boyfriend had turkey burger. The waitress said they make the veggie burger in house, but I’m pretty sure it’s pre-packaged. It was still tasty, but maybe not worth ordering again. Boyfriend loved his turkey burger and the house sauce. Onion rings were alright. Our waitress was very friendly. There was another staff member hanging behind the breakfast bar who looked like he’d rather be anywhere but at his job. Which I totally get, but I felt bad for the people he was serving because he was very brief and disengaging. Overall, I liked the place but the cleanliness is a little off putting. Our booth seats were caked with at least a month’s worth of old crumbs. Table was pretty sticky. I had to send my water back because there were pieces of what looked like someone else’s lunch floating inside my cup.

Been here twice… Meh… Pros: fast serving dinner, balanced menu, healthy options(although not a lot of options for vegan or vegetarians for that manner) and inexpensive. Cons: Not even Turkey Bacon, presentations is fair and the food is not memorable.

I went to 5& Dinner giving that I used to go to the old location on Colonial, HW50 and enjoyed Sunday breakfast there. I therefore decided to go to try out the new rebuilt location in Avalon due to nostalgia. I went for Sunday breakfast and ordered home fries and pancakes. The food order took some time, however the big disappointment was the burnt home fries and pancakes that also had the same«burnt» taste. I had fond memory of the old place and was expecting the same good good but was disappointed.

This place has been open for quite awhile in my community and it took me up until now to check it out. I feel like I should be disowned by Unilocal and 5& Diner. My dad and family were visiting from WV and they were going back that day. We wanted to grab breakfast before they hit the road and decided to give this place a shot. I’m really glad we did. We got seated right away even though they were a little crowded. I ordered the Denver Omelet and it was awesome! Everything tasted so fresh and was served at the perfect temp. My family was also very impressed and actually made the comment that we should have come here sooner while they were here. I will obviously be back. I want to try lunch and dinner and maybe even a shake.

Stopped by for a quick bite before hitting the movies and once again had Noelly for our server who. was awesome! This visit I decided to try lunch and was pleasantly surprised with the Blue Moon Burger. Asked for It Medium well and it was perfect. The abundance of cheese was a bit overwhelming and I took a little off. But overall not bad. Boyfriend had the chicken tenders were pretty tasty. As for the mozarella stick. I was not a fan, but then again. Just your run of the mill appetizer. But the boyfriend enjoyed them. $ 30 later… lol. lunch will cost you a bit more than breakfast but not to bad. Make sure to check online for coupons. I did and we saved $ 5. See ya next time 5 and Diner!

This place has good burgers and breakfast. It’s a worthy addition to the neighborhood. I wish Thunya Thai was still at this location. But then I’d have my cake and get to eat it too. Visit once and you just might find a place that you’ll visit often.

Just ok. Nothing to crave or brave about. Simple food, long wait… Coffee was good though! It just a dinner, nothing special. I wish I would have liked it more. My husband’s food was salty(home fries) and the bacon was burned. My BLT was more bread that anything else.

My best friend lives in the area, and we usually end up making breakfast or grabbing starbucks when I stay over because our options within a few minutes from her house are limited. Finally, 5& Diner is here to satisfy our weekend cravings for a traditional diner style breakfast. The food was good. No complaints there. It is the quintessential«old fashioned» style diner. We enjoyed our feast of eggs, bacon, hash browns, waffle, and french toast. Prices were on point with chain spots like Denny’s, but the food was definitely a step above at 5& Diner. Service was what lost some stars here. It was just so slow and not particularly friendly. The concept is great for this area, but part of having a traditional diner style establishment is having a staff that is friendly and treats customers like regulars. While we enjoyed the food, the slow service kept this from being 4 or 5 stars. I will definitely be back to try more items off the menu next time I’m visiting the area.

We live in Avalon Park and decided to try this new restraint today. The Shroom Burger was excellent. The first bite perfect, fresh and medium rare! The burger came with mushrooms and Swiss Cheese, melted just right. One of the best burgers I have ever had in Orlando! The fries were also perfectly delicious. Crispy on the outside and fresh potato on the inside. This was true for the first and last one. My husband had the BLT! He said it was very good… a high rating for him! He also had fries and a coke. The reason for only 4 stars was the service! It was okay! That is the best I can say! We will go back for the food and the reasonable prices. The service was good enough! I am definitely having a banana split next visit!

I really wanted to like this place because I love its Retro Bistro Décor. However, a restaurant is not always décor and the food was less than stellar: No taste, Dried, etc… The service was excellent… but I will go back again only if I am on a strict diet…

My family and I used to visit the previous location at least a couple times a year. The food was decent enough and there weren’t many other options for breakfast in the area. We decided to give the new place a try twice now and are really disappointed. Our first visit was within the first two weeks of it being open. I know it probably takes a while to get into a routine, but certain things just stood out. No napkins in the napkin holder at the table, ketchup was empty, little things like that. Our waitress was nice, but forgetful. The kitchen staff forgot the cheese on the chicken sandwich. Food tastes just okay. My veggie omlette tasted like it was frozen microwaved egg. The biscuit was definitely microwaved and tasted chewy. Today, pancakes were burnt, after my mom asked for them cooked«light». And this was after they had been forgotten by the waiter. He also forgot parts of other orders. Overall, I don’t think the food is worth coming back for.

I really wanted to like this place, especially since I’m desperately looking for a decent restaurant at downtown Avalon, but I was disappointed. To save you time, here is a list of places that are better in the East Orlando or Waterford Lakes area: 50s diner/small town diner: Chubbys on East colonial. Comfort food: Chubby’s or TooJay’s at Waterford Lakes. Milkshakes: Smashburger at Waterford Lakes or, yes, even Steak and Shake on Colonial. OK, why I was disappointed: — 50’s décor & poodle skirt staff seemed too touristy, even for a themed restaurant. Several posters were duplicates of each other posted in the hall or main dining area. — The $ 4.99 milkshakes plus $.49 more for malt were thin. It was like they put one small scoop of ice cream into a 16 ounce glass of milk and blended it. –no one offered to refill my water. When the milkshakes came, the waiter did not bring straws, so we reused the straws from the water glasses for the milkshakes. –The turkey dinners arrived different than what was listed in the menu. The menu said it would come with a biscuit, the waiter served Texas toast. There was no cranberry sauce, even though the menu said that it should come with some. Upon request, the waiter fixed both issues. –The mashed red potatoes and vegetables had no noticeable seasonings. The vegetables looked like the summer medley from the Jolly Green Giant. It consisted of cauliflower, broccoli, and carrots. I swear they took a steamer bag straight from the freezer to my plate by way of the microwave. — The staff was friendly, but was not very attentive probably due to the large crowds. –some of other people’s orders that went by our table looks good, like a very large stacked hamburger plate. However, I probably won’t go back here since there’s enough places within the same area that offer better taste and atmosphere for the same genre of restaurant.

This place is great. But you need to understand that they get BUSY. Naturally, service may not be as on point when that happens. It’s a very new restaurant. The old location burned down and this place’s atmosphere is but a shadow of their former glory… But they’re more popular now and they’re in a better location. The food is pretty good. You don’t get a lot of variety. It’s breakfast, burgers, hot dogs, milkshakes and some other things, but they make the food well and nicely priced. The atmosphere is what you come in here for and it’s a wonderful atmosphere. I look forward to coming back.

This is exactly what I don’t look for in a restaurant. On 4th of July at 8 am and a labor intense staff the restaurant is practically empty, clue #1 unnoticed. If you want to get my breakfast business a great cup of coffee is mandatory. The coffee served here was weaker than circus lemonade. I had corned beef hash and poached eggs. They broke a poached egg and chose to dragg the egg and it took forever. Their seasoned home fries are disgusting, greasy and the corned beef hash was sludge, with a revolting consistency. Our server was sweet and sincere and in all fairness, I didn’t express my distaste until after I paid as I should have read the reviews on Unilocal first so my bad! Plus there was no remedy and i was never coming back so why bother. Even as I write this review I still have the urge to purge. For a 25 dollar breakfast, I expect more. They will not be open long!

I waited to visit twice before I wrote this review. I wanted to visit during breakfast and lunch to number one see if there was a difference in service and to see how the food was. Lets start with the positives. My first visit I had breakfast which consisted of the Strawberry Waffle. I paid additional to add 1 egg and my choice of meat. The Waffle was actually pretty good and it was served with the Strawberry topping that I like. It was cooked perfect. It wasnt too hard or dense like some Ive had in the past elsewhere. They do put a scoop of butter on the side but its salted butter. Personally I do not like salted butter on my waffles or pancakes. I chose to have my one egg fried hard and 2 slices of bacon. Both were good. Normal diner breakfast. It was all washed down with a glass of sweet tea which needed to have more sugar added. By the way, they serve breakfast all day which is a huge plus! My second visit I decided to take advantage of the Blue Plate Special which is served Monday through Friday from 11am to 4pm. Each day changes. Todays special was a grilled cheese with a cup of soup. The menu didn’t state that the grilled cheese was only half of a sandwich which I felt was a little misleading. If your’e wanting one of the sandwhich specials I would recommend you ask them if it includes a whole or half sandwich. I asked what the soup of the day was and was told that they had vegatable soup and chili. Those two are already on the menu so not sure if there really is a soup of the day although the menu states that there is one. All was good with the food. It came out hot. Again its normal diner food. Now on to the not so good things. My first visit I arrived at noon so I expected there to be a wait. We were told it was going to be about a 20 minute wait which I was fine with but also noticed that there were several empty tables. Twenty minutes went by and still nothing and those empty tables were still empty. The hostess area was filling up quickly but no one was being seated. I asked the hostess if the counter seating was first come first served and she said yes so we decided to sit at the counter. My friend and I found two open bar stools and sat down. There were serveral people behind the counter looking a little unorganized. Finally someone acknowledged us and took our drink order. It took another 10 minutes to have our orders taken. By this time I was getting a little annoyed because there were several staff just standing around doing nothing but orders needed to be taken, tables needed to be cleared and food needed to be delivered to their tables. I literally sat and watched our food come up and wanted to go behind the counter to serve myself because I didnt want cold food. My visit today wasnt any better. I went in around 2pm and decided to sit at the counter again. I was the only person at the counter, There were a couple of diners sitting at tables but it definitely wasn’t a full house. I had to flag the lady behind the counter down to help me because she literally walked past me about 10 times and never acknowledged my presence. When I originally sat down whe was cutting up lemons which may I add sat there for the whole hour I was there on the counter. I honestly think she forgot about them. She took my drink order and I asked her about the Blue Plate special and she kind of looked at me like a deer in headlights at first. I reminded her about the daily specials and she went and got the menu for me. She took my order and then went on about her way. Honestly they really need to step up the service game. The food is good but the lack of customer service isnt good. Its almost as if some of the employees dont know what they are supposed to be doing so they walk around aimlessly or have personal conversations with each other. I really hope that they fix the service part soon because its nice having them here in the neighborhood.

Today I was in the mood for breakfast at a place with a patio so off we went to 5& Diner. When we arrived there were a lot of people waiting but many were not interested in dining on the patio and fortunately WE were. Jay was kind enough to give us some coffee in large to go cups while we waited. While waiting, I met a guy who was from my old stomping grounds on the west coast and it made the time pass quickly. We were finally seated and today it was steak and eggs with fried potatoes and a side car. Mama wanted the scrambled eggs and bacon along with a waffle. Not long after we placed our order a couple with the most adorable daughter was seated next to us. We all began talking and the time quickly passed. It was pretty clear we all hit it off and one of the great things about the people in Avalon… We ALWAYS meet some great people there and today was no exception… Our food finally made its way to the table and we will start with mama’s meal. The waffle was light and fluffy and had a good flavor. When you bite into it, it collapses gently. YUM… The bacon was just short of fully crisped but just the way I like it. I am not a fan of scrambled eggs but they were light and fluffy according to my wife because I chose not to try them… I prefer my eggs looking at me… lol Now for my plate… The eggs were looking at me and just the way I like them. The potatoes were beautifully browned indicating that the grill is getting a good seasoning. The steak was medium rare and lightly seasoned with salt and pepper. The flavor was very nice and the steak was not tough at all. The pancakes were light but not as fluffy as I prefer them. They did have a nice flavor and texture to them and were golden brown. My only complaint was that the salt in the salt shaker was clumped together. If that is the worst thing I can say about breakfast, I guess I am being a bit nit picky. I did however offer up Jay a solution… I went up to Publix and bought some rice so thy could put a few grains of it in every salt shaker. The rice will absorb the humidity and keep the salt from clumping up. Being in Florida for most of my life, you learn to contend with the humidity. After breakfast we socialized with the couple some more and found out they were new to the area. We offered to take them to Lake Eola so they could see the farmer’s market there. After they finished up we all headed there and I have to say… We met some great people and made some new friends. Looking forward to my next trip to 5& Diner already…
