Crown Salon & Spa

I really wanted to give Crown Salon & Spa at least 4 stars, but after my last visit, I can only fairly give 3.
Crown Salon & Spa is a salon that provides just about every spa service you can think of — hair, nails, waxing, and makeup. They have services for both men and women.
I found the spa when I was at the Chase in the same shopping center. We had just moved to this side of town and my boyfriend and I both needed some hair services stat.
He went first and came home looking fancy with a great report about his services and stylist. I had my first appointment a few weeks later with Jennifer. She did a great job on cutting and styling my hair. She first dried and then cut my hair — as far as I know, this is an unusual approach to my hair type (thick and wavy, but not course). She also added an extra conditioning treatment at no extra charge. It came out looking great. I posted the after picture here.
One minus I encountered during this visit was when I was told about makeup services. Apparently, they ask that clients bring their own foundation. I expect my makeup artist to provide a great foundation for my skin at my appointment. This has been my experience at other salons.
The customer service I received was exceptional. A manager checked me out and gave me a small cosmetic bag to take with me. He also said if I showed my Unilocal review on my next visit, I would get $ 5 off — Great incentive to increase positive image on Unilocal and retain customers.
Now, here is where losing a star comes in. I was the Maid of Honor in my best friend’s wedding a few weeks ago and of course, needed to look fabulous. I wanted my hair colored, cut, and styled on the morning of the wedding. I was excited to go back to my new favorite salon and watch Jennifer work her magic. I was also prepared to be told that everything I wanted done could not be completed in three hours. To my surprise, the manager I spoke to told me Jennifer was available and could complete my request in three hours and have me out of the salon by my 11:30 deadline. I got up bright and early on wedding day and arrived at the salon when they opened at 8:30am.
I was offered water when I arrived and accepted. Jennifer immediately started on my hair. We chose a great color and Jennifer applied it. She told me the color would be on my hair for thirty minutes. In this time frame, she took another client for a wash and style appointment. This would normally be understandable, but I had communicated my need to be out of the salon by 11:30 several times. The color was not rinsed out of my hair for at least one hour. I asked about the effects of the prolonged exposure and if we would still be done by 11:30 and was told both were nothing to worry about. By the time the color was rinsed, it was nearly 11:00. My hair was then dried and it was 11:15. I asked that we skip the cut and could she please quickly style. I have thick hair that holds any style without hair spray, but asked for just a little. I wanted a few curls added to the already slightly styled hair from the blow dry. This took about 30 minutes. All the while, Jennifer did not seem at all concerned that I needed to leave by 11:30. She even offered to let me change into my dress at the salon. I also asked for one side of my hair to be pinned with the bobby pins I brought that were given to me by the bride. Jennifer did not put the pins in, but watched me do it. Finally, my hair was done by around 11:50.
I quickly checked out, left a generous tip, and got dressed and did my makeup on the way to the wedding.
Overall, I do think this is a good salon and I may return for a cut. I won’t get color done there again. The lack of attention to the time the color was on my hair is concerning. I’ve spoken to a few other stylists to confirm that a single process color and simple style should not take three hours. My complaint is that I was told my full request could be accomplished in the time frame and it wasn’t. Had I been told it was not feasible when I called, I would have skipped the color for now and went with a cut&style. My hope for this salon is for an increase in providing promised services. It seems they may have bit off a little more than they could chew with this one.
My boyfriend has had two great experiences here and intends to keep going for all of his future cuts. I presume this may be an overall better salon for men. I do recommend everyone, including women, check it out for a cut or color if you have time to spare, especially if you want your thick hair transformed to silky smooth loveliness.

Hidden gem! Wish we had taken a before picture, but I came in with dry, damaged hair and left with hair I couldn’t stop running my fingers through. Jenni was fantastic.

I love coming here, the staff is always friendly and willing to go the extra mile to make me feel good when I leave.
I’ve been coming here a little over a year and I would highly recommend that you come experience this place.

Got the groupon and thought I’d give them a try. I really liked my stylist, Saidy! It’s not quite as edgy as I asked for but I think she wanted to play it a little safe being my first time and cutting off quite a bit of length. Went home and played with it and I’m definitely going to love this cut. I will be back again for sure!
Saidy told me they’ve been open 6 months so I’m sure they are still building their client base. If you are looking for a new salon, give them a shot. Their groupon deal was totally worth it.

Went and got my eyebrows waxed and this place is great. Friendly and professional staff, gorgeous salon. I will definitely be going back!
