TL;DR — Give this place a try! Considering it’s part of a chain, Golden Krust easily surpassed my expectations. The problem I have with many restaurants is lack of seasoning. That is not an issue here. I had the Thursday special, jerk pork, and it was fabulous! The small meal was big enough that I ate the leftovers for breakfast. It had just enough spice that I could taste the flavors in the meat. Because the jerk sauce wasn’t overpowering, it went great on the rice and beans. On the side I had sweet plantains and cabbage. Both were great. I also had a spicy beef patty which in my opinion wasn’t spicy, but it still tasted great. I feel bad for anyone who had a negative experience here. I suggest giving them another try. The staff were friendly and patient while I tried to figure what the heck I wanted. So many good options. I’m really looking to try lots of other stuff from their menu.

Came at lunch time and got the lunch special of Curry Chicken that came with side of rice & beans and a cabbage. The whole meal was $ 4.99 and they give a decent amount. The curry chicken was not really hot but it was seasoned very well. I asked for extra sauce over my rice & it made it very flavorful. I would definitely come back!

Decided to come here this evening because I didn’t feel like driving all the way to another restaurant. I’m kind of mad I settled on this place. I walked in and was really unsure on where to place my order because there were two registers on both ends of the front counter. I thought I placed an order for a large brown stew chicken, and I received a small. Whatever. I was eager to try it though. I opened up the container and found a small amount of meat with majority of it being bones. It wasn’t as tender as I would have liked it to be. As far as the taste goes… They completely missed this one. The gravy tasted like it had BBQ sauce in it. It just did not taste authentic to me. I’ve had this dish numerous times at different places and just… No. The cabbage also tasted a bit overpowered by okra, and the beans in my peas and rice were a bit dry. My boyfriends curry chicken was good though, and he seemed to have enjoyed his dish. I was just thoroughly disappointed with my food and extremely pissed off that I paid so much for it. Two stars because the place is clean and the staff was kind but I won’t be coming here again.

I am not a fan of chain restaurants. While on vacation I asked a Jamaican what local establishment she could recommend and was sent here. I was majorly disappointed to see it was a chain. The amount of food given is ample, but it had no flavor. I paid $ 12 for oxtail with rice and peas and had to throw it out. I couldn’t even eat it.

Let’s see… Popped in about 15 minutes from closing(I know terrible, lol). Staff were super friendly and informative. I went outside my comfort zone and opted for the ox tails $ 11 and my boyfriend had the jerk chicken. Let’s start with the pros-larger than life portions even on the small. I had more than enough for lunch the next day. Please of gravy from the oxtails and the veggie/cabbage combo… cash money! Excellent! Oxtails had great flavor as well as the jerk pork. We also split a spicy beef patty with coco bread which is free if you check in on here!!! It was delicious! Cons-Rice was not done :(. It tasted way better the next day when I reheated it. I was not fan of the plantains which were also were not done. Overall, I’d go back, it beats going to the West side of town for Carribean food. Great staff, clean space, and tasty food!

Went here last weekend and we made it right before the rush. The staff was very friendly. I had ordered the curry chicken with white rice. It was pretty good. The rice was a little undercooked. I also had the liberty of trying the oxtail(thanks Coy) and this suckers were some of the best I have ever had. The oxtail was cooked down perfectly while the sauce was one of the most unami things I had ever eaten. The sauce for the oxtail was almost black and super savory. I highly recom. end this dish. Next time I’ll order the rice with peas instead of white rice. The curry chicken was good but not great. More options to try on my next visit

After frequenting this establishment about 4 times in a 3 day period I think I’m qualified to leave a review. I’m originally from Jamaica, lived in Fort Lauderdale, FL and now live in Atl(where there is a serious lack of tasty Jamaican food). The chicken soup I assume was amazing. My husband and toddler devoured it before we made it to the hotel. The brown stew chicken(I’m convinced) was literally cooked in somebody’s home and brought there Bc restaurants rarely get«home cooking» THAT right. The oxtails were enough to make your tastebuds sing, I could probably drink the gravy :-) Super tender, very meaty and a delightfully tasty sauce. Very well seasoned. The«jerk pork» wasn’t really jerked. It was stewed down at some point in the cooking process which took away from the authenticity of it, but still enjoyable nonetheless. Now the red peas soup!!! THATWAS A SHOWSTOPPER! I had to leave town before I propositioned the chef(jokes). I cannot wait to go back. Excellent place to get authentic food!

I went to run some errands and saw Golden Krust Bakery so I decided to be nosey. I am glad I did because I saw a young lady cleaning up and started asking her about the place. To my surprise it was in fact the owner who was emptying the trash and I like a lead by example kind of person. We began talking and I let her know I like to check out new food places and that I tend to tell the world about my experiences. She immediately perked up with confidence about her establishment. I asked if she would fix me a «sample plate of the different things she had to offer and she was kind enough to do that. She fixed a bed of rice with beans and added some oxtails, jerk chicken, curry goat along with some plantains and a cabbage and veggie medley. I was also given a beef patty some white rice along with some ginger beer which was my favorite brand. She also gave me some rum cake and Gizzarda. YES… That was a LOTOFFOOD! Let me start with the rice and beans. The rice was a tad undercooked and I expected to taste a hint of thyme which appeared to be lacking. I was starting to get worried but I tried the curried goat and it was very tender and very tasty but the seasoning was different than I am accustomed to. I did not taste as much scotch bonnet as I would expect but then again I am used to the«traditional» way of making curry goat and this was seasoned for a younger palate. The jerk chicken has some sweetness to it and I was told they add a few other things to their jerk seasoning. It was different than the traditional jerk seasoning and geared more for the younger palate. The oxtails were a tad undercooked for my liking but since I prefer them to pull cleanly from the bone and these didn’t but as far as flavor goes, they were seasoned well. I personally prefer more scotch bonnet in my oxtails but that is a personal preference. I tried the gravy from the curry goat and the oxtails over both types of rice and if the rice and beans was not undercooked, both would have been good over it. I am not a big fan of white rice with Jamaican food but it was cooked right. Those plantains were wonderful but I have to say I did not find the addition of the mixed veggies in the cabbage appealing. Others might like it that way but this is the first time I had it that way and it just didn’t work for me personally. That beef patty was flaky, nicely flavored and so good I ate every last bite of it so nothing to nitpick there. The rum cake was quite good and but their Gizzarda was something I had not tried before. I am not a huge coconut fan BUT it won me over. I will be getting another one of those the next time I stop by. Overall I enjoyed their version Jamaican food but for those that grew up on Jamaican cooking, this will not pass the muster. The seasoning is not traditional so I have to say it is better suited for a younger crowd since the younger of people on the go that don’t do much cooking. For serious cooks like me that know what home cooked Jamaican food is prepared like and tastes like, it is a disappointing. The addition of veggies in the cabbage, the Worcestershire sauce in the jerk seasoning and the lack of thyme in undercooked red beans and rice is tough to let slide. I think that if they stuck to the more traditional ways of preparing Jamaican cooking, they would be a HUGE success. I suspect that the people that know the difference between authentic Jamaican cooking techniques will not be won over. How do I know this? I have family from Jamaica and have been exposed to home cooked island food and taught how it is made. Several women that work with my wife that are from Jamaica and they had already told her what I am now saying. I spent a good 15 to 20 minutes overall with the owner and can see she is passionate about her business and treats her staff very well. I truly believe that with a few adjustments that this place would be the talk of Waterford Lakes and a huge success with the UCF students and lunch crowd of Research Park. I saw the passion in your face when you talk about your restaurants but there is some room for improvement. Your restaurant is IMMACULATE and your staff is well versed in how to treat the guests but I truly believe that if you took your dishes back to their roots, you would win over the Jamaican food lovers of ALL ages. I will also be coming back to try«The Breakfast of Jamaica» better known as Ackee and Salt Fish… Fair warning… I have some every time I go to south Florida during the holidays.

Had the oxtail with with rice and extra gravy. Great flavor and overall very tasty. A few of the pieces were a little chewy so maybe it could have been cooked a tad longer but overall no big deal. Not really the type of place to bring a large group but great for takeout or a quick lunch with a coworker. I’ll be back!

Not the same as Golden Krust down south. Patties were not good. Crust should be flaky. This one is too thick.

The jerk chicken and plantain is bland. However, the chicken stew is on the far end of the spectrum(it’s too salty). I tried a sample of the oxtail and it was pretty delicious. The jerk chicken patty is dry and bland. However, the rice and beans is a great side! Until I find another Jamacian and Caribbean restaurant, I will make due with this place if I’m ever in the mood for Jamacian and Caribbean food.

Golden Krust. I once ate at the one on West Colonial(a few years ago), and I remember being pretty happy with it. It didn’t compare with my regular favorite at the time(Mama Millie’s, now sadly leveled in favor of a parking garage across from UCF), but I enjoyed it. Now, at this new location? You know, it’s still good. Like the one on W 50, my main complaint is the lack of heat in dishes that need it. That’s often the problem with a national menu though, it seems that when you have a chain that expands to new regions, you have to sometimes make the menu«safer»(in this case, «less spicy») to satisfy the different tastes in different parts of the country.(Note: this is not a chain-bash, I can’t stand you faux-expert self-labeled«foodies» that hate on chains because it’s currently cool to hate on chains. Judge the food, not the financial success of the business.) *ahem* Sorry. Anyway, I’m not sure if that’s what happened here. But I’ve been to several local Caribbean restaurants in the area, and all of them«Bring the Pain» better than Golden Krust has. The jerk chicken is flavorful but lacking any significant heat, and certain parts of it(at least, by the time I arrived at around 6:30pm) were a little dry, probably from sitting out all day. Overall it was good though. The curry goat has zero discernible spice, but again the flavor is there, and the pieces I got were all fork-tender and delicious. The cabbage was nothing special but the plantains were tasty and the rice(both the black beans & rice as well as the white rice) was good. Overall? It’s definitely good, it’s just not great. It will fill you up for less than $ 10. Problem is, you can fill up at Mark’s Caribbean Cuisine, not far away, for the same amount — and their food IS great.

The chain Caribbean restaurant golden krust has entered the alafaya market with a location right across Waterford! 4.99 $ lunch specials with curry chicken and 1 $ more for curry goat. When at any Caribbean restaurant you have to also get a spicy beef patty only way to start/finish a meal!
