NASA Socials include some really fun perks, including sitting in on press conferences related to the event you’re there for. I was there for the SpaceX CRS-7NASA Social and got to attend a few press conferences here(including the press conference after the CRS7 loss). It’s really cool to see not only great speakers but where NASA holds press conferences and were actual journalists work.

As a participant in several NASA socials, I’ve been fortunate enough to spend some quality time in the NASA press centers. Near the Vehicle Assembly Building, it’s a complex with several building and annexes for specific media outlets that are meant to serve the working press during launches and other events. The auditorium facilitates the press conferences, and the larger press resource center provides working space and a media library for journalists. It’s the home of the iconic countdown clock, as well as the CBS news annex where Walter Cronkite live-broadcast the moon landing. The complex isn’t necessarily much to look at it from the outside, but if you ever get the chance, it’s absolutely worth a visit. It is generally not open to the public, but I would suggest monitoring the NASA website for information on NASA Socials(formerly known as tweetups) which frequently include events at the press site.
