Best fried chicken in central Florida! This is not a swanky place, but the fried chicken, the mac& cheese and th w CORNNUGGETS… They r amazing. Its an old place but who cares when the food is so good! The food is cooked to order so u gotta wait a bit… u can call ahead or order takeout!

I finally tried this place after passing it several times in the last year. Now that it is closing, I wish I would have gone there sooner. My only hope is that they open the new restaurant closer to Brevard county. I tried the gizzards and must say they are the best I’ve had… Anywhere. My wife had the chicken and loved it. I tried a small piece and wanted more. I hope Oviedo is the new location and I hope they open soon. I already need a fix!

Decided to check this place out since I’m a southern gal who loves some fried chicken. I went during lunch time with some friends and it was very busy. I had to go and hold a table while they ordered my meal because the dining room was pretty small and there was limited seating. They joined me after ordering and, after a long wait, we finally got our food. I had ordered fried chicken(breast and wing), green beans, and fries. Oh my goodness y’all… This chicken is so good!!! The green beans(pole beans) were really good too, as well as the crinkle fries. The waitress came by a couple of times to make sure we were ok. She was a sweetheart too! Would definitely come back when I’m wanting to cheat on my diet!

This is a place that my girlfriend and I have had our eyes on for a few years now, but have always had to skip since they don’t accept card and we never seem to have cash on us when in the area. With the recent news of them closing their doors at the end of May(I think these owners and the owners of Propagation should team up and open a Coffee/Chicken fusion of some sort), we decided to pull out some cash and make the 18 minute drive out to see what all the fuss is– I say, I say, see what all the fuss is about. Arriving 15 minutes after the clearly labeled open time listed on the front door, we were«greeted» by the daughter of the fry cook who condescendingly informed us that the place wouldn’t be open for another 15 minutes(this sort of thing seems to happen to me a lot). 15 minutes later and we were finally permitted inside. A quick scan of the menu and we decided to both order the chicken nugget meal(7 chicken nuggets, dipping sauce, two sides, and a dinner roll all for under $ 6) The staff, like every, single woman in my life, lacked any sort of emotion. When we got our food we were both impressed by just how much we were given for such a low price! But, after taking out first few bites, we quickly became unimpressed. The chicken were boring, bland, little balls of whatever. The crinkle-cut fries, while plentiful, were unseasoned, and limp. The fried mac and cheese ball probably could’ve been good if not for the super low-end quality of the mac and cheese inside. And the dinner roll tasted super undercooked and yeasty. Ugh. The best thing about this meal was the fact that we didn’t waste too much money on it. After the years of pining after this place, the allure and mystery had finally come to an anti-climactic end. (NOTE: If/when they do find a new location we MAY give them the benefit of the doubt and actually try the fried chicken(they were apparently voted the best in Orlando), and IF our experience is better, I’ll update this review accordingly)

tl;dr: go before they shut down this location, bask in the kitsch, make some cock jokes, eat some chicken The sign outside — which will hopefully end up in a museum, if the landlord agrees — should be your first indication that you’re about to step foot into a well-preserved 70s time capsule. Swag lighting and rooster kitsch abound(and if you’re as immature as I am there are so many opportunities for cock jokes. So many) but the real feature, of course, is the fried chicken, which is crispy and juicy. I can also vouch for the macaroni and cheese.

Go visit it before they close down this location, you will be thrown back into the 70s with the style and décor. I got 2 pc breast and leg. I usually don’t do white meat because its too dry, but this was very juicy and delicious. Mashed potatoes & gravy wasn’t anything to speak of, but the coleslaw was very good. A must is the corn nuggets. They also have fried gizzards and livers. I tried them for the first time just to say i did, but im not a fan of organ meats, so I cant recommend. If you get there right at noon be prepared to wait a bit. It’s a small place with a small staff.

I was looking for some non Disney things to do on a quick trip to Orlando and a friend suggested«Rebel Chicken or something, on South Orange». With a little help from Google and Unilocal I fond it, Olde Dixie Fried Chicken! My friends that were with me are from Australia and had never seen anything like this, so they were wary. I told them not to worry, the dodgy looking places are often the best. We went in, ordered at the counter and sat down. My friend pointed out the sign that said«we use MSG» I laughed and said«yup». We ordered a 9 piece chicken mix, fries and mashed potatoes. When it came, it looked so full of crispy fried chicken goodness. I had a bite of a leg and it was awesome, really tasty, crunchy and juicy. My wife and Australian friends, also impressed with the chicken. The side of fries, was HUGE! They were just ok, not amazing. The mashed and gravy was solid. My Aussie friends had never seen chicken based gravy, so it was a new one for them. So good food, with good friends. When in Orlando i’ll be back for sure. And yes, I took a photo with the chicken outside

While in the Orlando area, if you are tired of «touristy» restaurants and crave for a local favorite for real southern style fried chicken, this place is the real deal. Freshly fried pieces of chicken and served available for dine in or to go. This fried golden gem is crispy and juicy and PERFECTLY seasoned and cooked from inside and out. Feasting on this chicken gives the sense of a home cooked fried chicken, something you don’t get from Pop I’s or the Colonels, or any chain FC restaurant. To complement and complete the fried goodness, get the coleslaw and fried mac n cheese, freshly made daily and just the right portion. 2 piece and 2 sides and a piece of bread = a whole piece of dining heaven with a side of guilty pleasure… YOLO! Life is short, eat good fried chicken!

From my understanding, Olde Dixie has been around since the 70s. I have a friend who lives in Orlando and would regularly bring some down for me to have. When the situation presented itself and I was finally in Orlando, I made sure to add this to my itinerary. It’s in a run-down part of Orlando, away from the attractions and nice neighborhoods. When you walk in, it’s an ample counter with the dinning area to the left. They do accept credit cards. I ordered the chicken breast and wing with mac n’ cheese and coleslaw. The boyfriend had the same with mac n’ cheese and French fries. We never received the French fries, which is fine because the chicken was the main attraction here. It was extremely crispy on the outside and the meat was tender and juicy. No dried chicken here! I definitely give this place a solid 5 stars and will continue to stop by whenever I’m in town or passing through!

If your looking for fancy and refined this isn’t the place for you but if your looking for some good eats then you’ve come to the right place. The chicken is well seasoned and fried just right. I ordered a 3 wing dinner which comes with two sides of your choice and a dinner roll. I decided to go with the potato salad and baked beans. I added an additional side of Mac n cheese. I really liked the sides and wish they came a little larger but for a total of $ 9 for all of that I’m not really complaining.

I use to live in Orlando and passed by this location many times without stopping. On a recent return to Orlando, I was passing and stopped to take a picture of there cool old Sign out front only to catch a wiff of the chicken and decided to go in. Wow, older place but very clean and the staff treated me like I stopped there everyday, all so friendly. Chicken and sides were awesome, freshly cooked and served. I will return for another lunch on my next return to Orlando.

First let me say this place is an older establishment. It has been around many years. Looks very unassuming from the outside. The inside is clean and most importantly the food is great! The chicken we ate was freshly cooked and the sides were very tasty. I loved the new mac and cheese bites! It was my first time there, but since the reviews on Unilocal were pretty good I decided to give it a try and I am glad I did. I will defiantly be back! This chicken is some of the best I have eaten.

First time. Last time. Short version, food was held under a heat lamp that was too far away to keep it at a good temperature, possibly even the safe holding temperature. Staff was rude. They seem to rely on old customers and don’t care if they get new ones. Long version, When I walked in, I should’ve realized that there was going to be a disparity between good chicken and what they had to serve. For starters there were very few pieces of chicken sitting underneath the hot lamp that was quite a distance from the chicken. I ordered my six pieces, and they brought it over to me at which point I tested the temperature. My fear about the hot lamp was confirmed. The chicken was lukewarm at best. I seriously doubt if it was of a safe holding temperature. I took one bite and it was dry and I informed them of this. I took another bite after he stated it had only been out for 12 minutes, and it was still dry. I returned it and got my money back, at which point they brought out fresh hot chicken. With a snide remark, I might add. Which brings me to my next point. I would also like to point out that the attitudes of the people behind the counter were far less than desirable. This is a place that obviously relies on the clientele that it has had for the last 50 years, and really doesn’t seem to care if they gain any new customers. We will definitely not be going back. Such a shame, because it was so close to our house. Oh well, there’s another chicken place about 3 miles away but I have found to be much better and much more personable.

Omg, I’ve missed living in Orlando so much!!! I’m so tired of Popeye’s chicken! This place has got to be one of the best fried chicken places in the world. The seasoning on the chicken, the crispiness of the skin and the moistness of the meat is an awesome combination. They give you a good amount size of sides to eat with your chicken. Its definitely worth the money to eat here. Just a tip for new comers, use the restroom before you come here. The only restroom is outside around the back of the building and they aren’t the cleanest.

Came to Orlando for a Convention. Had to have fried, since we were in the south. Took an Über ride to old dixies and was not disappointed. Chicken and service were both great.

I loved everything about this place. From the golden fried chicken to the macaroni salad. Mom and Pop places like these that have been in business 56 years are a gem in any town. Why do people even look at McDonalds nuggets when almost every town in the united states has some one frying up chicken correctly in it. The dinner roll was soft and sweet as was the service. Cathy was a wonderful server and even helped me clean up a spilt drink. Thank you Cathy! Also… The Décor was fabulous please check out my pictures!

So you walk in and you’re like wtf am I doing in this place? Outdated décor, weird ceramic chickens on the walls… Until you have the freaking best chicken of life. Seriously I bow down to the person who made that recipe. Staff is super sweet and fun, excited to hear you’re a first timer. Love this place. Heard there moving to Oviedo and now I’m ready for the far drive!

The chicken is fried in peanut oil so it’s extra crispy and light! I also appreciate the simplistic menu and old school decoration. Sounds silly, but my favorite thing there is the sweet tea.

Just passing by the place w the decades old sign made me want to LOVE this place. But there’s a difference between quaint old and dirty old. This place is filthy. I’ve gone w friends who insist on eating there in the musty super smelly dirty dining room. I always leave feeling super gross. The chicken used to be better. Now the pieces are unusually small and its dry. I have not been back since my last visit. I can’t get past the dirty floor.

YEAH !!- This is review #100 of my 100 Unilocal Challenge. Happy to end this commitment on an olde legend in Orlando times! ************************ Step back into 1962. Yep. They must have a few things right if your business has endured 53 years. Yeah the remodel has been trumped by so many different things(I’ll bet), its kinda cool being preserved as is. I ordered two thighs w/fries and slaw. A pirouette and forward step, my order of fries was going into the cooker. The chicken was soon to follow. So, it isn’t FASTFOOD folks but it is good food. STILL — I moved here in 67 and remember it from back then even. The slaw was not too wet, or dry, and just shy of sweet– PERFECT fo me. The fries, after getitn the side of mayo to mix with the ketchup were plentiful and wonderful — unlike the fast food joints fries. Do something different for a change– go back four decades and check out why Olde Dixie has endured so many bad political economies for yourself.
