Publix Apron’s Cooking School

I was so surprised! This experience really exceeded my expectations. We had 2.5 hours of «funertainment» kicked up a notch with the 5 wine parings of the evening.
The room is a dimly lit spectrum and creates a romantic atmosphere. The chairs really could use an upgrade IMO but hey, I’m going back for couple more classes! I did pick up a couple cooking tips in addition to being fed and entertained by all the four chef’s instructions.
To review each entrée in depth would make a silly long review, so over all, this was great and tasty value for the bucks.
The crosini was a 3.5 stars no regrets (other than portion size– I could have piggly eaten a couple more!) Loved the «brine» accent the eggs presented!
Roasted potato and arugula salad tossed w/​warm vinaigrette was 5 stars. Damn good textures and apple wood bacon in the vinaigrette was really fantastic.
The Tuscan roasted veal (4 stars) w/​braised red cabbage (4 stars) and creamed radishes (2– flavorless but nice crunch texture added to the dish)
The Dark Chololate Ravoli w/​white Chocolate cream filling was a 5 star finish.
We’re now thinking of putting a small group together for the «hands on» cooking event! I’m certain it will be a fun and tasty time.

What a wonderful experience. From the class selection, clean environment and knowledgable staff, everything about these classes are wonderful. I have taken 5 classes thus far and I am looking forward to so many more. The chefs really take the time to teach you and make sure you understand proper techniques. I have learned about and cooked with so many new ingredients and feel so much more confident with my cooking skills. THANK YOU CHEFS!!!

Wonderful Publix with a different layout than I have ever seen before. My experience has been with the pharmacy and they have always given me a wonderful counseling, assistance and advice. Although I have one closer to me, this location is a great spot.

This is my go to publix. They have an awesome sub station with tons of toppings, sushi bar, Ice cream/​coffee bar and prepared foods area where you can get a good lunch. They also offer a decent seating area. The store is always clean and workers are friendly. I haven’t personally been to the apron school but looks cool. This location can get very packed & there’s a liquor store as well.

Cooking schools are a fairly new concept for Publix and I recently tried a 6-​week cooking course at their Apron’s Cooking School located in Orlando (Dr. Phillips). The school is located in the back of the Publix store and is fully equipped with a huge kitchen and two Apron’s staff for each class. I attempted to sign up for the Basics of Culinary class in the previous quarter, but the evening slots filled up. Understanding that the classes fill up quickly, I registered for the fall course online about a month and a half in advance. The class was held on Monday nights at 6pm (convenient after work) and included all materials for the class. Each class focused on a different cooking topic, such as knife skills, sauces, or techniques.
This type of class was «hands on» which meant that you partake in the cooking aspect of the class. The format of the class was a bit different than I expected, with the group of 8 – 10 people in the class all contributing to make several courses for a full meal. For example, when cooking marinara sauce, two people would cut tomatoes while another person would pour the ingredients into the pot, and other person would stir. I did expect more individual attention during the class, but this format definitely makes sense as it makes the class go by faster. Even with group participation, the class typically lasted about 2 – 3 hours. If you individually asked a chef to help you on something, they absolutely would do so.
The Apron’s staff were very friendly and they answered any questions our group had in the class. At the end of each class, we got to indulge in our creations and wine was included as well (which was actually pretty decent wine). There were not many vegetable dishes in the 6 week course. I’m not a vegetarian, but the class definitely focused on a lot of meats and starches. The cooking school also encourages you to purchase devices and products in their store (hand mixers, knives, and even potato ricers) as many of the dishes that you create are made using the uni-​tasking devices. The devices are pretty pricey, but you do receive 20% off as a benefit to taking the class.
The 6 week course was $ 300 but I thought it was worth it with the expert instruction, materials, food, and wine included. There is a calendar on their web site that you can view and reserve the classes in advance. They even have «demonstration» classes where you can sit back and watch the chefs instead of participate.
Overall, I enjoyed the cooking class and I look forward to trying more classes at the school.

I’ve never met a Publix I didn’t like. But this one, I’m totally in love with!
As common w/​all Publix everyone is overly helpful and friendly. But this one is spic n span and while I was there the produce employee was actually laying on the floor w/​a broom getting fruit out that had rolled under the counters. You’ll also find more choices of organic produce than I’ve ever seen.
This location also has many departments and specialty items that no other Publix has. There’s a café’ w/​delectable cupcakes, donuts, specialty coffees and more. Want to attend a cooking school? You can do that right here in a special cooking dept. There’s many varied classes to choose from. There’s also a department for event planning. Their sushi department also has a hot bar of freshly cooked Chinese items! Their olive bar is what I was drooling over. Not just olives, but tapenades, artichokes, roasted garlic and more.
Sorry to say I only ran in for 1 item and these are the only departments I noticed. But I see from other reviews there’s a whole lot more to for me to discover. I can’t wait!

This is the third farthest Publix from my house. I gladly bypass the others. My favorite Publix. Clean, huge, and by far the nicest staff.

I love, love, love Publix and it’s one of the main reasons I’m afraid to move out of Florida. I discovered this newly opened Publix recently and I am in love. It is by the best Publix I have ever been to in my life. I go out of my way just to come to this one since I live in the tourist area and dealing with the people over there is awful.
They have so many more features than any other Publix, the sub line is around the corner from the deli so you don’t get mixed up for whose in line for what and who was first, they have the gourmet prepared food and the hot foods (chicken strips, popcorn chicken, hot sides) are kept on warm skillets which makes it much more appetizing, they have prepared chinese food and sushi, they have a little café which sells publix premium ice cream by the scoop (I love this because I can try different flavors without buying a whole tub of ice cream) as well as other desserts and food options, they have a separate cash register by all the food so you can ring it up really quick and sit in the dining area to eat your food, they have extra fancy desserts along with the usual in their bakery, the have a wonderful speciality cheese section as well as an olive bar, a great wine selection with a wine expert always there to help, and they are one of the few Publix locations to have the actual Aprons cooking classes and demonstrations (which I’m determined to participate in one day).
To top off all their awesome features, the staff is super attentive and friendly. I truly enjoy my shopping experience every time I go their and it really puts their motto into play because this is where shopping is a pleasure. I’ll always choose this Publix over all the rest and you should give it a try, too!

Incredible! Café, sandwich shop, café seating… you have got to see this Publix!
It has a Café that serves coffee, gelato, sorbet, pizza and ice cream, they have their own sub shop, there is a sushi place, floral and bakery is huge, an entire wine department, cheese department… and even Apron Cooking school. Insane! I’ve loved in Orlando all my life and know Publix very well. This is unlike any grocery store I’ve ever seen. Wish I lived here! I’d come here just to eat and have coffee. Haha.

Excellent customer service everyone is so friendly and helpful. They have a hot bar which is good only bad part they close at 730−8pm. The sub shop and gelato part is open till830/​9pm. If you can’t find something there is an employee down almost every isle and they will either walk you to the correct isle or get the item for you. They have a cooking school which I can’t wait to try a class seems like fun. This is my new favorite publix

This is an amazing grocery!!! Really has a great inventory. Organized, bright, clean, well stocked. This grocery even has their own cooking school! You walk into a deli and produce section stocked with beautiful inventory. Then you walk pat the wine section. The wine section has a machine to chill your bottle right there on the spot! The meat and seafood counters look great and do NOT have the tell-​tale «fishy» smells, which means the product is fresh and the counters are clean. Additionally, the pharmacy is available, and has the largest variety of sports nutrition items that I have run across. Finally, the ethnic food section covers English, German, Kosher, Asian, Indian, Caribbean/​Hispanic, Mexican… and I’m sure I’m forgetting one or two.

When it first opened, I thought it was going to be the same as any other Publix but nope, this Publix far exceeds other stores I’ve been to. Friendly staff greets you as you walk in. Excellent customer service! I am constantly asked if I need any assistance. Everything is so modern, clean, and fresh!

I’m a fan of Publix and this new one out shines them all. Because I’m new to Orlando, I have been trying out different grocery stores and this is it. I love going down all the aisles to see all the various items they have to offer.
The staff is extra friendly and helpful and this keeps me coming back. If you ask where sometime is they will offer to show you where it is. The produce and meats are all very fresh.
I love the soup bar and hot food. Since its just two of us you can get a quick hot meal there, two thumps up!

This is the Best Publix in Orlando hands down.
I was in the area decided to do some quick grocery shopping and since had not been in the Dr Phillips a while i was very curious to see this publix since it’s my favorite supermarket. This location is what they call the Beta store because all the latest technology in supermarket is tested in this location to be put in future Publixes. When you visit pay attention to the meat area where the keep all the fresh meat with a state of the art water mist to keep their meats always fresh for the customer. Since the competition of Whole Foods & Fresh Market is around this Publix have definitely stepped up their game. Check it out when you’re in the area.

My favorite «new» Publix, this location sill has a few kinks to work out. Well stocked, and extremely clean, I still get the same fantastic, friendly service that I have come to expect from Publix. Hiccups are still plentiful at the sandwich, hot food and coffee areas, but it’s still a new store. I expect that it will continue to improve. Note to management: Stop micromanaging. I expect that you would be coaching your team members, but some coaching conversations are better delivered off of the floor. Also, watch your tone. Nobody likes seeing hourly employees talked down to.
