After hearing about this place for the last year or so, I finally decided to go. It’s a small, quaint place with very few booths and tables inside. They have a wide range of items on their menu and also have daily specials. I went with a flatbread, a basic cheese and added pepperoni to it which ended up being $ 6.00, very cheap in my book. It was delicious and I had a little left over to take with me for the next day. The one thing that seemed to be the trend at this place though, was that they run out of a lot of things. Sometimes an entire dish or random ingredients. Luckily when they double checked on that pepperoni I wanted for my flatbread, they had some in stock. Unfortunately for one of my friends, they were out of the meatloaf she so desperately wanted. I hear they will be moving locations to the old Redlight Redlight off Colonial which will give them a larger place and a better kitchen. I’m interested to see what the new place has in store and what new things they might add to the menu.

Wow and yum! Their special when I went in was Perogies Marsala. I should have ordered a second plate. They were amazing. Very sad they were a special and not a regular item. I also got the quinoa tamale pie. It was tasty, but I think it needed more cheese and less quinoa. I definitely plan on going back. Cool chill vibe too.

I’ve been to Spookys several times and have never been disappointed. The local art is fabulous(particularly the pieces by an artist known as «cake»); and the quasi-mystical bohemian décor creates a sort of fun, intimate, low-key atmosphere. Sort of like attending a dinner party thrown by a good friend, you know, the weird one who is an astrology enthusiast and chakra reader who dabbles in culinary experimentation. We stopped by on a chilly evening and ordered soups for starters — asparagus and butternut squash, I believe. Both were marvelous. Our main course was the«fungi fun» pizza — an unexpected but delicious combination including a bounty of mushrooms, dollops of ricotta and a dusting of curry powder on a crisp flatbread crust. To be quite honest, the soups quite warmed our innards on this chilly evening and we had no room for pizza. It made for a great breakfast, when reheated in the oven the next day, though! Which I think is a testament to it’s excellence! On a separate occasion, one which I was apparently too inebriated to remember at the time(don’t judge! It happens to all of us!) the boyfriend ordered a hominy hash type thing, which I wound up eating the next day whilst recovering from the previous night’s revelries. I could be mistaken, but I think this fantastic hangover cure consisted of hominy, cornbread, sausage, shrimps, and lots and lots of cheese. It keeps getting better in my memory though, so don’t quote me on that. I find the waitstaff quirky and fun and knowledgeable and the prices on these whimsical takes on familar comfort foods are quite fair. I’d recommend Spookys for a lady’s night out, for a fun meal with a significant other, for catching up with Aunt Maude from out of town. All occasion food for all kinds of people who like good food.

Stopped in for dinner on a Friday night. The place wasn’t packed, but I didn’t mind as I was looking for a quiet dinner. Very interesting décor inside that seemed to showcase a lot of local artists; always a good thing in my book. Our server was super friendly and had a great personality. She let us know up front that the kitchen was out of a few items, and the menu stated that this tends to happen. I’m guessing that they buy a lot of their ingredients locally, and since there was plenty of variety on the menu, one or two dishes being unavailable for the night didn’t bother me. I ordered a 12 inch, Greek style flatbread pizza which had diced kalamata olives, red and yellow roasted peppers, pepperoncini, tomato, fresh mozzarella cheese over a spicy feta dip base, topped with parmesan and Romano cheese. It was DELICIOUS! I ate about half of the pizza and took the rest home. I also ordered a side of tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions which was also delicious. Very chill atmosphere, friendly and personable staff, excellent food; I give this place an enthusiastic thumbs up. If you’re looking for a relaxed environment and tasty food that felt homemade, give Spooky’s a try. I look forward to my next dining experience there!

Their smaller specialty items were amazing(soup, app). Beer choice was very nice. Server was great! Entrees a little mediocre, as was the dessert I had, but since they were out of most others, I’ll assume they must have some great ones. Fun décor. Worth going back when in the mood to do something different then the routine.

Seriously — why aren’t you at Spooky’s right now? Oh… you are reading my review? OK. Good excuse! This place is AWESOME. From the kitchy-witchy fortune teller décor to the eclectic menu and the very welcoming and warm service. I sampled the Tour of India which was a selection of awesome«curry» type dips for pita bread. Ample pita made me happy. unlike most restaurants which skimp! Sweet Potato patties were weird for the first bite. then friggin awesome! The honey mixed with the ham… OMG. Bliss! Just don’t expect them to be crispy! Pulled pork on waffles was awesome as well. The waffle honestly wasn’t anything special… but the pulled pork was. Some of the best BBQ I have had in the area. They also have a great rotating special menu which I tried the Dilly Grilled Cheese from. Very interesting non-traditional cheese sandwich. Oh — did I mention the deserts? The carrot cake was worth a trip alone… it had DATES in it! Sounds weird. but it is AWESOME. Anyway — stop reading and give this awesome place some business. You won’t be disappointed!

First off– I hope this is legible because I’m starting on my third glass of alcohol of the night. That being said, I’m just this side of sober enough to be honest without bad puns. I heard some great things about this place and I went with a friend and my boyfriend. My friend got there 15 mins before us and said that he had gone inside to get a table but they said they were booked so we could sit outside and 10 mins after we had gotten there(so 25mins after he had asked for a table) we still hadn’t seen one waiter/waitress. I walked inside and a lady behind the counter(with another person just hanging out behind there with her) knew we were out there and said that she was«right behind [me]» and so when I sat back down outside we still waited another 10 mins to get a waiter outside(meanwhile we saw another party of 3 walk inside and get a table inside right away). He apologized for the confusion and once we ordered, the beer and food was out at a decent rate. I love the feel of this place, it’s very laid-back Halloween night. And the food is like what a guy who likes good beer would order to go with said awesome beer. The food was good, filling and kind of like comfort food. They had a decent variety without having a ridiculously big menu, which gives the impression that there is a lot of thought put into what they make/serve. I am vegan and I had the hummus with pita bread(there are some options for vegans but it’s mostly food that focuses on tasting great, not being healthy). I found the hummus to be tasty but really dry and crumbly. That’s a word right? My friend and boyfriend are omnivores and got meat stuff– the boyfriend got pulled pork on waffles with a side of mac&cheese and was in dude-food heaven! The friend had some form of meat on bread that looked good(said the crappy vegan) and also chowed down on the mac&cheese like the answers to the universe were at the bottom of the plate. Overall it was good and the beer was great but the service kinda sucked. The waiter was nice but 35 mins to even order beer after someone went inside to ask for some help is kind of ridiculous. With the milk district getting more and more popular, I see this as a cool place to grab food but I also see them getting overwhelmed with people in the future. I hope they step up the service because the décor, location and food are great but a lot of people would have left after 35 mins. That’s the only reason they got 3 stars cuz service is important to me, especially if it’s a small place. We would go back for a second try. :)

I spend way too much time typing the word«cider» attached to different cities into Unilocal.Any city I have been to, chances are, I have put cider in as a search query and voila, I choose a restaurant. This is how I came across Spooky’s Black Cat Café, and boy, am I happy I did. Someone’s review mentioned some blackberry cider or something and that alone brought me here. The taps rotate, so naturally, the cider had changed, even better, to a pumpkin cider that my husband even loved(he hates pumpkin.) There was also a second apple on tap as well as some bottled ciders. Gotta love it. And a GREAT selection of other beers and wines. The interior is quite lovely — drapery over lights, «spooky» decorations, pages out of clairvoyant like handbooks laminated for placemats, and an overall«feel» that goes right along with the name. It’s heaven. And the chairs are super comfortable. After a plane ride, sitting at work from 9 – 5 before that plane ride, and with a pretty fresh tattoo across my back, I was still happy and comfortable in my big cushy black chair. I would live in that chair. The place is naturally fairly dark. I actually thought it was closed, being around 9pm or so, but no it was just dark. I still felt terrible coming in a little less than an hour before closing(yes, i hate to go places even 30 – 40 minutes before they close…) but they were happy to seat us and feed us(thank god! I was hungry!) The menu is amazing and they have specialties — all of which were enticing. We chose to get a menu item often mentioned here(pulled pork on waffles) and a specialty pizza(a sweet pea pizza with feta cheese.) These two things were AMAZING. The pork was really amazing, the BBQ sauce that comes with it is perfectly sweet and spicy and goes great with the waffles — which aren’t overly sweet but work even better than any bun I have ever had. I loved them. Please send me them to Pennsylvania. Please. The pizza was great — nice, thin crust, good cheese, and delicious peas. If anything, there was too much cheese, we wiped some of the smears off a bit, but honestly, I can’t complain about too much of something. Plus the peas were so good. I wish there had been more. Overall, I truly enjoyed this place. I would love to have somewhere like this near me.

If this place gets rid of the small roaches we saw crawling on the art, then it’ll get 1 more star from me. I mean the environment and food was awesome. We had Dragon eggs to start with and the sweet chili sauce had a Wasabi kick to it. I had Quiona Tamale Pie which was delicious, friend got the flank steak sandwich with a mac/cheese on the side, I tried them and they were pretty good too. For dessert, we had pumpkin pie and red velvet cupcake with cream cheese, the cupcake itself was a little dry and tasteless without the cream cheese. WELL, PLEASEGETRIDOFTHEROACHES. As soon as we walk in, I love it. It’s small, the décor is all over the place, the chairs don’t match, and there’s a laminated description of the five Chinese elements on our table. Oh, and our server is wearing a sparkly purple top hat. So far so good! We order the Naan appetizer with pesto. While I had hoped for the soft wedges that you’d get at a good Indian place, this wasn’t really like that but it was still good and so was the pesto. It came with exactly the right amount of pesto(or whatever you select) so that we ran out of both at the same time. One thing that made me happy was the pricing: the appetizer was $ 4. They get it! Someone finally gets it! I’m so sick of having to decide against ordering an appetizer because a restaurant charges just as much for an appetizer as they do for a meal, and in some cases it’s just as much food. It’s an appetizer! Smaller portion, smaller price! So Spooky’s gets bonus points for understanding the term«appetizer» and giving us something that was perfect for two people to share before having an actual meal. For lunch I ordered the pulled pork on waffles, which had two very exciting benefits to me: 1) it’s pulled pork. On WAFFLES. and 2) my fiancée doesn’t eat pork, so if it’s as awesome as the phrase«pulled pork on waffles» suggests, I won’t have to worry about giving up any of its goodness for her to taste. And yes, it’s awesome. The only thing that confused me about it was the fact that the barbecue sauce drizzled on the pork was mustard-based, while the kind in the little cup wasn’t. I would have thought keeping it consistent would have been better. But pffffttt I didn’t care, I mixed it up and loved it. As my side, I got the mac and cheese, which is a homemade variety that I really enjoyed. My fiancée did manage to wrest from me a piece of the mac and cheese. Whatever, as long as she backs away from the pork waffles. See you soon, Spooky’s! P. S. — Dibs on the band name«Pork Waffles».

Wow. My husband and daughter came here a few nights ago based on a friend’s recommendation and we were back for lunch today after their great dinner. Amazing. A few sandwiches, a few appetizers, some pizzas… Yet all the choices sounded great! We had the dragon eggs(deviled eggs with sriracha and wasabe, with a sweet chili sauce) which were so good we ordered another set before we were done with the first! We had sweet potato app, two pizzas, and a steak sandwich. They have wine, beer, and the most amazing décor. It was fun, packed with things to look at, and the place mats were educational on things like palm reading, yin and yang… But did I mention the food??? Yeah, different, new, flavors bursting. It was awesome.

Awesome experience for a business trip! The place was tough to find, but well worth the trip. We had 10ish people and everyone ordered something different and everything made it’s way around the table– same with desserts. It was all homecooked and very enjoyable. I don’t think I tasted anything I wouldn’t order as an individual entrée. The place is truly a «dive» in a questionable type hood– but it was a great experience. I’m sure we’ll return next year.

I have been wanting to visit Spooky’s for a while. I am a big fan of supporting local establishments. We were finally able to visit last week. The décor is kind of funky, eclectic and spooky — exactly what you would imagine a hipster hangout to look like. We happened to get one of the tables with the soft black chairs which is nice to lay back and chill. We got word that they adopted the entire menu of Social Chameleon and that Social Chameleon from this point out would no longer be serving food. We first visited Social Chameleon a few months ago and we were very impressed with the décor, food, and proximity to the bars in the milk district. However spooky black cat is not that much farther out of the way and it seems like a place we might frequent in the future. I started with the grape leaves as an appetizer. The grape leaves were served in half with a dish of curry sauce. The grape leaves could hold their own — which was good because I soon tired of the curry sauce. For my main dish I ordered the meatloaf flat-bread pizza. The flat-bread was just the right crispiness and the meatloaf itself was very tasty. They were out of more than one thing that we requested that night and we were there early so they should have been stocked. Hopefully that is just part of a growing pain and won’t continue.

I have to say, I love me some Spooky’s! We wound up coming here after a Magic game one night, and was really impressed with the food and kitschy décor. We were greeted by the owner and she started to talk to us and recommend a few apps. I have to say my new favorite thing is Yuca fries with Banana ketchup. yes banana.you gotta try it! I also found out that the restaurant was name after her cat Spooky. All in all it was a very good experience, I’m not really sure how they could handle a busy night though…

Brought out my wife and the 7 y/o grrl to a new neighborhood, or so I thought as we saw Pom Pom’s driveway but today we were looking for Spooky’s. After finding a table on the intimate side of the café, we ordered some food. I went with the pulled pork BBQ on waffles, the grrl had an open faced roast beef sandwich and my wife went with a flatbread. If you don’t have the patience to read the rest, all of our food was amazing and it was very good value. You won’t be disappointed. Carrying on, we opened with some naan and roasted garlic which my wife loved. I opened with a Shipyard XXX draft :). After our food came to the table it was obvious that we were in the right place. My white Mac and Cheese was stellar-so much so I almost forgot about my BBQ on waffles. I tried a couple of other sauces with the pork, but the orange colored /savory sauce that comes as the default was by far the best. My wife and the grrl were fighting over the garlic mashed potatoes that came with the open faced roast beef. They made up soon afterwards sharing a huge snickerdoodle sundae with cookies, ice cream and whipped cream. Décor was funky and eclectic-just like I imagine myself designing and the soundtrack was Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney/Wings and Led Zeppelin. Service was with a smile and relaxed in a comfortable way. None of us were in a hurry and there is a lot to see around the room. The grrl wanted to know why it was called Spooky’s-she was afraid it was a haunted house when we arrived but once she left she wanted to know when we could go back. Chalk up another option for an «adult» restaurant we can drag the grrl to without killing our intelligence and taste buds.

So if you’re going to have a restaurant, why not make it fun? Make it light, airy fairy, magical, and enchanting, with just a little scary in it. And with this thought, a spooky black cat walks in.. . I was surprised to see the Greek mythology lesson on my place mat, but enjoyed it very much, in addition to the Buddha wall and the endless array of art, color and texture all throughout. On to the food.. .the tour of India is quite amazing. Hot spices that blend perfectly for a delicious treat.. .don’t forget the milk if you order this one! The vegan pizza was just OK, until you add some special sauce that kicks it up a notch. Service is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable.. . There is actually a cat named Spooky.. .and it seems a resident black dog. Friendly with no shame at all, sprawled out on its back waiting for the next person to pet it. Spooky cat is a feast for your all your senses, not just taste – a cozy comfy place that really is a must try.

Cute little place that will not disappoint, food wise, but the service isn’t the best. Our server was making inappropriate comments the entire time and made the entire table uneasy. There was another server there that was very pleasant, unfortunately we didn’t get him. I will definitely try it again, but if I get the same server I won’t stay. Meatloaf sandwich is AMAZING!!!

Ladies and gentlemen we have a winner!!! Spooky’s is a tiny café located on Robinson and Primrose. Eclectic arts hangs on the walls and funky music fills the air. They offer an array of great draft beers and interesting wines. The menu is small, but the food is worthy of a food-gasam!!! To start, we ordered the cold spinach dip which is served with warm pita and ritz crackers. Nothing was left of it when we were done. I tried 2 beers, first White Rascal and 2nd Palm. The first was sweet and light. The second was a smooth and fruity. OK, so dinner, Pulled Pork on Waffles(I know it sounds insane.) Words cannot describe. It’s that good. My vegetarian friend tried a bit of a bite and said she’d give up vegetarianism for it. We asked the server how they came up with the idea for it and she defaulted to the cook who explained that after receiving an abundant shipment of waffles they thought it would be neat to pair them with the pork. After loosening our belts we decided to take dessert to go, a delicious piece of red velvet cake. I will be back. Again and again and again. I’m in love!

Just visited Spooky’s after reading the reviews here. It’s close to where my parents live, so we jumped in the car and went. We had planned to yesterday, but my step-dad called and found out that they re-open for dinner at 6PM. Good to know before you go. The location is where the Sandwich King used to be. Spooky’s has only been open 8 weeks. The old Sandwich King sign is still up outside. So it’s easy to spot the restaurant. As soon as we went in, we were greeted very nicely. There was only one other table of guests. The table we were given was a bit small for 3, but we made it work. The table even had a wobble, but was fixed immediately without even asking. Service was fantastic. Our waiter(who I wonder if he’s an owner) was great. He knew his stuff. If he wasn’t the owner, then he’s really cut out for the line of work. He spent a lot of time with us talking about the menu and the restaurant. And made a great beer suggestion for my step-dad. I am also a fan of cider and tried Blackthorn there for the first time. Their beer and wine selection is very large! I had sent the Unilocal reviews to both of my parents before we went. My mom started with a crab cake because she is a huge connoisseur! She said it wasn’t the best she ever had, but still enjoyed it. I don’t eat seafood due to the fishy flavor, but tried a bite. Very little fishiness at all. I’m not sure what the sauce on top was, but it was very good. We all enjoyed it. After that, my mom tried the pulled pork and waffles and loved the pork! As a good Southern woman, she talked about how she could have left the waffle out and would love to have the pork on a nice, soft hamburger bun. I tried it and agreed. It came with two sauces. A green one that didn’t have a whole lot of flavor and another that was bbq sauce. The bbq sauce was excellent. My step-dad got one of the specials which was a chorizo bruschetta with ham and cheese on top of that. He’s half Basque, so he loves good chorizo. It came with a nice feta side salad. He was disappointed that the chorizo was very mild and couldn’t really taste it. I of course had to try the infamous meatloaf sandwich. For only $ 2 more, you could get one twice the size. So I did and took the other half home. I was expecting the meatloaf to be more of a sliced variety. But it was broken up and reminded me more of meatball with bbq sauce and melted cheese. I enjoyed it very much. I chose the macaroni as my side. It didn’t have much flavor and I would probably get something else the next time. Overall a nice experience and very reasonably priced. I hope to go back again. Worth trying if you’re in the neighborhood.

Love, Love, Love! Brenda, Michelle and KSquid, I trust you! I found this brand new hot spot thanks to your Unilocal reviews and I am telling you, spot on! Lovely local treasure in the up and coming Milk District. This brand new gem is brought to you by the owner of The Social Chameleon and The Milk Bar. Such a nice guy. Let’s start with the décor, so warm and cozy! Love the ceiling, check out all the cool fabrics. So much to look at all around you and the great music just adds to it. There is some bar seating, a few tables and these 2 awesome tables with huge soft comfy black chairs that I highly recommend — feels like you are king/queen eating lunch and it’s SO relaxing. I of course have to tell you that they have cider! They actually have an extensive beer, wine and cider list. You will def find a ton of things you want to try and that is just the beverages. Let’s move onto the highlight of the location(besides the phenomenally nice service). There were so many things to choose from that sounded amazing. We went with the cheese and meat plate to start. It came out with peppers, onions and artichoke as well. It was served with a side of breads and I actually made mini sandwiches — delic!!! As for the main course, I saw Krista mention meatloaf so I was SET on ordering this sub. She also mentioned the pork topped waffles… to my luck(because they were out of the ribs because they smoke all their ribs in house and they were unable to smoke them today), my boyfriend ordered them and I tasted them and YES! Pork on waffles is a HUGEWIN! They come out sliced as finger foods so it’s not as messy as you would imagine in your head and it was savory and succulent, I would destroy an order right now if it was in front of me. He also went with sliced potatoes as a side and they were cooked to perfection. Now, the meatloaf sub… yup, it’s delectable. It comes out on this phenomenal roll that was toasted — perfectly! They did not skimp on the meatloaf either and topped it with melted mozzarella and BBQ sauce. I am sure it would be easier to eat it with a fork and knife but I went all in and sacrificed my looks to just dive into this deliciousness… I kept getting BBQ sauce on my nose. Ha! The sides change out daily as they are made fresh. One of my favorite salads is the tomato, cucumber and onion salad so as soon as that was a listed option, I knew what I was getting. It was so fresh, tasty and delicious too, great side for the savory meatloaf. I can’t remember the last time my boyfriend and I went out for lunch and cleared plates of the app, the main course and then went for dessert. We were full but then we heard about a fresh chocolate layered cake that was not too rich but extremely flavorful and boy were they right. It came out and was so tall and covered in whipped cream, WOW! so glad we went for it and we basically licked the plate clean in under 5 minutes, delicious. So overall this place has got it and I will def check in here weekly to see what new fun things they have to entertain my taste buds. Ambiance, décor, atmosphere, welcoming and warming staff, so many drink options and the food… oh the food… you must experience ASAP!
