A park for an honest man James Ormond Tomb Park is named for James Ormond II, the son of sea captain, James Ormond I. James Ormond I was a sea captain and was responsible for bring many of the first European settlers to this area. The town of Ormond was named in his honor. The park itself is quite small but very pleasant. A nice playground, some clean bathrooms and a few picnic tables is pretty much it. Not a whole lot of room to hike but the trees and plants are quite nice. Many very nice hiking places are only a short distance from this little park. The park is unique because it contains the tomb of James Ormond II on a small mound toward the back of the grounds. A little plaque with the name and dates and the epitaph, An Honest Man, lies on the top of the tomb. Certainly not an impressive park by the standards of the much larger state parks in the area but it is a very cool part of history. If you enjoy morbid things or like seeing a bit of the past it’s a park worth visiting. Not often do you get to see the tomb of an Honest Man.
