The Dakota Rail Regional Trail is a 26.5 mile trail running from downtown Wayzata to Mayer, Minnesota. It spans both Hennepin and Carver Counties and is paved and well-maintained from late spring into fall. It is perfect for bike riding, running, walking, roller blading and more. The trail was made possible from the conversion of the old rail line dating back to the James J Hill days and the Great Northern Railway. Parts of the trail opened in summer of 2009 with additional western mileage added later. The trail travels through neighborhoods, towns and wooded areas. Several beautiful views of Lake Minnetonka are visible along the route. It is easy to switch over to the Luce Line trail closer towards Wayzata. It is a beautiful asset of the community. Enjoy!
