Coffee Diem

After coming back again for the last four weeks. almost every day… I have to change my review to five stars. Everything is soooo delicious. I usually get a scone which are always baked fresh that morning. I’m never disappointed. Also the blackberry currant iced tea is amazing! Everything is tasting very fresh!

Love love love this place ! Kari is the best ! Her cupcakes are amazing! I’m not a big coffee drinker but I love all the other options !

I love, love, love Coffee Diem. They make paleo baked goods each day that are fabulous, and their drinks and other treats are the best in town. I highly recommend them and go there as often as I can. Their customer service is just icing on the cake — they not only take time to make your drinks exactly how you like them, but they remember you and take care of you each time you return. They make you feel special, and that is priceless these days.

Homemade baked goods every day! Great coffee and even good biscuits and gravy and I don’t give out my biscuits and gravy recommendation lightly.

Best little coffee shop in town. Friendly staff, great coffee, teas, smoothies, and food. I LOVE this place! I’ve also watched this business support the local non-​profits. The owner knows all the regulars by name and what their special drink is. They always take suggestions to heart too. I can’t think of a better coffee shop in town.

Love the coffee and tea. The cupcakes have the BEST buttercream frosting I have ever eaten.

As far as coffee bars go, this is middle of the road. Friendly staff and a decent variety of pastries. Interesting twist in coffee drink specials such as the red velvet latte. A little too sweet for me but maybe someone else. Nice place to get out of the rain for a hot coffee or a nice selection of loose leaf teas.

I don’t enjoy Coffee Diem as much as I enjoy somewhere else in Oroville, like Mugshots in downtown or The Good Earth down Oro Dam. More coffees than not that I’ve had made there were off and once it was so bad, I even had to have them remake it. Even after it was remade, it wasn’t the best. I’ve also had a bad experience there when my son (2 years old at the time) was not being very well behaved and was asked to leave due to another customer being on a business call. That may have made my rating a little biased and I understand how annoying a misbehaved kid can be (okay, very misbehaved), but as a paying customer, I thought I deserved a little better treatment (maybe asked if there was anything they could do to help me). Other than that one experience, the staff has been nice and the inside is cute and rustic. But overall, I’ve had better coffee and prefer going out of my way to get a better experience and a better cup of coffee.

The coffee and atmosphere are fabulous. My favorites are the fresh brewed teas and fresh baked scones! I find any excuse to stop in for a baked treat!

Considering that Coffee Diem has some of the highest prices for coffee drinks in town, you would expect to have a positive experience and excellent service for what you are paying, unfortunately, that is very seldom the case when frequenting the downtown coffee shop. The atmosphere and vibe when you walk in to the café is wonderful, very cozy, well decorated, creative and welcoming. All that changes once you order your drink though. I have gone to Coffee Diem many many times, in hopes that the service would improve, so I could fully enjoy my coffee, the atmosphere and feel like I was getting my money’s worth. I cannot recall one time out of the dozens of times I have gone there that I felt valued as a customer or even just treated nicely by the baristas/​staff. Once you walk up to the counter, they make you feel like you are an inconvenience to their chit chatting behind the counter or to whatever non-​customer service related task they are engaged in. They rush you through your ordering, they are very short with you, and forget about if you seek something other than the basic recipe (ex. low fat milk, half-​caf, sugar free syrup, extra hot, etc), that would just make things way too hard. Aside from feeling like an inconvenience as a customer, for bugging them by ordering a drink and giving them business, probably the biggest problems I have with their customer service is that if one of their friends or regulars comes in while/​before/​after your are getting ready to order, they will serve them first or hold conversation with them primarily while or instead of helping you! This has happened SO many times while I have been ordering. And never do they greet or say goodbye to non-​regular customers. I have witnessed while sitting in there numerous times, their interactions between regulars and non-​regulars, and it is pitiful. As well as not being priority as a customer, the staff has frequently been just plain rude to me! I have been treated as though I am stupid on a few different accounts and that alone is reason to not go there. It is such a shame that their service is so horrible because Coffee Diem has a lot going for them.
As for their product, it is not bad. Actually come autumn and the holiday season they truly succeed in the pumpkin recipe realm! Their white chocolate pumpkin mocha, pumpkin latte, and pumpkin chocolate chip muffins are fabulous!!! I have worked as a barista so I know a fair share about coffee, and unfortunately they truly lack the knowledge of the art of coffee and more importantly they lack the knowledge of their own product. If their customer service were to truly turn around 180 degrees from what is has been the last 2 years, then I would love to regularly go to Coffee Diem, but until them, they have lost yet another customer (I have heard many verbal complaints locally), and it’s sad because they have so much potential!
