Great little piece of nostalgia here in this old downtown movie house that is now run by a not for profit organization. They show mostly classic cinema here, crossing all genres from Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin to Ghostbusters and Caddyshack. It is a great and inexpensive(3 bucks) way to spend a weekend evening, and it is really a treat to see older classic films back on the big screen. No matter how BA you think your home theatre set up might be, there is no substitute for the true movie experience for something like Citizen Kane, Lawrence of Arabia or On the Waterfront. They are closed for a couple months during the winter, but during the warmer months they tend to have a theme of showings for a given set of weekends; Slasher films, old comedies, horror classics, etc. Also a good place to take a date. Even if you happen to hate classic cinema, you can at least pretend as though you have an appreciation for it so you can appear sophisticated. As a final side note, they show the Rocky Horror Picture show once each season also, and it brings out the fanatical types for the film like a small army of escaped mental patients. If your instagram feed is in need of some shock value, look no further.

The ideal local cinema, a sweet quirky vintage building, a not-for-profit community theater serving the local community by showing classic films, underground, cult, local, and beloved niche market films. We have driven up from Madison many times to see horror festivals, rare films, and old favorites, and we always have a GREAT time. This weekend we saw Ghostbusters, the house was packed, there were fans in costume, it was a hoot and a half, great genre fun for the whole family. Ticket prices are affordable, seats are worn but comfy, the place is clean and well maintained, and the staff and crowd are always friendly, enthusiastic and welcoming. It really is a horror & sci-fi film fanatic’s paradise! I have been to the movies in big and small cities all over the USA& Europe, and the Time can stand proudly wih the best of them, bringing cinema to the people, in true independant film fan style. Tasty popcorn, they even serve nice beers, I can’t think of one single thing I could improve; it really makes me wish I lived in Oshkosh.
