FIRST: Let me say that it HAS been several years since we visited«The Experience». I believe we went in 2009. Things may or may not be different now. I WILL revisit in the 2013 season and be sure to update. From the beginning; The Experience IS located in a prime spot. It is kind of out in the middle of the boonies in an open field and this immediately sets the mood. Parking is in a grass field. After parking, you walk a short distance to a tented area where you purchase tickets and then stand in line. The wait here was really long considering there weren’t a LOT of people waiting. That was kind of a bummer for me. However the line was partially tented so if there is inclement weather, more than likely, you don’t have to worry about getting soaked. The year we were went, there were no food stands. There was a port-a-pot. So I might recommend going to the bathroom before you head out. After the horrendous wait of just standing and staring at each other(maybe they play some movies, music or something to entertain the crowd?) you’re taken on a walk back through the field while you’re told this«legend» of the lost girl«Saran» by your guide. The legend sounds PRETTY familiar… I’ve heard this story before… Then you arrive at a door in the middle of the field, you go through it and«the Experience» begins. You wander around in the woods for a short time, and then we walked up on an old water well in the middle of the woods. Here, about a dozen white night gown clad girls with long stringy black wigs pop out of the shadows… At this point I was pretty disappointed. I realize now, that the«legend» is the story plot from«The Ring». It all goes on for what seemed like too short of an amount of time to be worth the time we waited. As you walk through the woods, the plot is unfolds to end in a somewhat confusing grand finale but it was just a little too theatric for me. But it was certainly different. I have been to a few of this company’s other theatric adaptations(The Legend of Sleepy Hollow play… they also do «Evil Dead the Musical,» which I have not had the pleasure of experiencing) and while it is a novel idea, the end result seems like too much effort is put forth for too lackluster of a result. This is WORTH a try, but know this: Don’t go into it expecting your«standard» haunted attraction. It is anything but standard. Tickets are $ 12 for adults, $ 10 for children 12 and under. You can skip the light with a «Ghostpass» for $ 25.
