Marisol has been my stylist for a little over two years. I go for both color and cut and always walk away looking and feeling great. Last New Year’s Eve she also did my makeup. I wish I could post a picture because I felt and looked glamorous. They all made me feel like a queen. Everyone at the salon is welcoming and professional, and they cater to all hair types. They use Moroccan Oil products there too. Definitely recommend Marisol and the salon.

I’ve been going to Marisol at APS for about four years now. She knows what she’s doing and always has ideas for new looks. The other stylists always come up to me and ask how I’ve been, how school’s going, etc. Everyone here is very nice and gives exceptional service. It may be a bit pricey compared to your local Cost Cutters, but you get what you pay for. Great hair salon!

I’ve never written a Unilocal review before but was prompted by my poor experience with this salon. I called twice in two weeks and left messages regarding setting up an appointment for a haircut but no one got back to me. Finally, in week three, someone finally did. I wanted an appointment with Dwight, the owner, but the staff member I spoke with made it sound harder than getting in to see the Pope. First she told me he was booked four to six weeks an advance and tried to pawn me off on another stylist; after I told her the time frame wasn’t a problem, she asked my availability. I’m fairly flexible(I can do evenings, Fridays during the day, and Saturdays); she then put me on hold for several minutes. When she returned, she explained that Dwight would want to have a consultation first and she had an opening in two weeks. Okay. When pressed, she admitted that he might or might not do the actual cut at that time depending on how much time the consult took. Um, WHAT?! All I want is a trim on my naturally curly hair. I’m not asking for anything complicated like color or any other processes. I like to see how a stylist does with my hair before committing to anything more complicated. I was already put out by them not getting back to me in a timely fashion. Acting like they were doing me a huge favor by allowing me to make an appointment FOR A CONSULT, not even the trim I asked for, was the final straw. I just told the employee I’d find someone else. And I will. Y’all aren’t THAT special, trust me.

Wow this place really takes the cake! Took my 2 daughters with their natural super curly hair here. Everyone here is super pleasant and helpful. You get a real feel of a team atmosphere! Dwight and his assistant are very knowledgable and great with kids! They really took the time to complement them on their hair and also listened to my questions and concerns and were super with their helpful answers! They respected my decision for no heat no relaxer and didn’t push anything on me! I watched Michael do a wonderful job highlighting a woman’s hair while I waited for my daughters and thought this is somewhere I can definitely go in the future. It’s not everyday that you find a salon that pretty much does every hair type! Their prices are just as awesome! Great for a stay at home home like myself, on a budget! If you are like how felt, and feel a bit hesitant about the drive, for me, it was about 30 minutes, GO! It’s worth it!!! And when you’re done tell your friends so they need to expand, preferable towards the Joliet/Plainfield area…

Hard to find a Suburban salon that does black hair. The mall has one where the price is ala carte — they expected me to pay for each little thing. Shampoo, Conditioner, blow drying, curling and comb/style were each priced separately. They had a wall dryer for women to dry their hair themselves(charged for that too) cheaper. Plus the person I got had never worked with kinky hair. After bouncing around the mall scene and driving to the city for a few years I finally found aprivatesalon and Dwight. Thank God. He is amazing, a genius with color since I started going to him friends who know my real color ask for my stylist’s phone number. He also took the time to learn my hair and he takes notes on what he does so he knows what you liked and the techniques, color, cut works best for you. After my child was born my hair texture changed and I don’t need relaxer now — he can get my hair very straight with a blow dryer. The old products that worked great on my hair were too much so he helped me find products that work. He keeps up with new products too. Recently he and found a great set of products that allows me to wear my natural curl without the frizz I usually get with this new texture. I have tried countless products and he took the time to find something and test it out and it was cheaper than the stuff I purchased. He also charges one price for the basic service(wash, condition, blow dry and comb/style) and other services(cut, color, weave, etc.) you choose are individually priced and added to the base price; like black salons where I grew up. As for appointments you can either call or he has a computer system for making appointments so you also have the option of checking his calendar online and making appointments from your computer. I love aprivatesalon and want them to be successful but I also hope not too many people read this because I don’t want it to become difficult to get an appointment.

I’ve been going to see Dwight for the last 8 years. He does an amazing job with my hair and gives great cuts! So glad they opened up their new shop. They carry La Brasiliana and lots of other great products for relaxed hair. Very reasonable prices as well. :-)
