One of our favorite hikes! A must do hike! Moderately difficult, however there were plenty of families on the trail. We definitely got our hearts beating with pretty much an uphill climb on the way to the first viewpoint… it was awesome. The serenity and quite of the first half of the hike through the lush forest with incredible giant trees towering over, then you begin to hear the oceans waves in the distance, eventually you start to see grass accumulate around you next to the trail and before you know it you breech through the trees into a large hilly meadow with breath taking views of the ocean! Amazing!!! With taking a few photos here and there, this hike took us about 40 min one way(the way back was about 30 min — it’s a lot of downhill). Enjoy!!!

Based on my «old guy» criteria for hikes this one comes in at a full«moderate». The pull up at the start is heart pumping, but once you clear the first mile and come out on an incredible, full on meadow view of the Salmon River to the south it’s all worth it. On a clear, windless day like we had you can see south all the way to Coit Tower in Frisco. Okay, okay, not QUITE that far, but a danged long way. The next piece of the trail is shorter(.6 miles I think) but steeper. There are some great westering views if you crane your neck over some cliffs. Oh go on, just a little, as there are several rock outcrops in the Pacific that are worth the craning. Depending on what you read, the trail peaks at 1200 or 1312 feet above sea level. The actual high spot is a bit east of the trail. No beer for you if you don’t get off the path and stand at the highest spot. Gonna do some hiking in the Vosges mountains pretty soon, but there’s no French required on Cascade Head.
