The following review will be brutally honest. I have been coming here since I was a kid in the 1980’s. Not much has changed since the rink opened. The whole building needs a through cleaning. This place could be so much more if it were updated. Phone/Website/social media: If you call the rink you will hear a recorded message that says visit the website for complete information. The website lists hours of operation and prices but you have to search for it. The website has not been updated in well over a year. The rink facebook page is very seldom used. The Staff: The owner is nice and friendly. The problem is she is seldom there. Most days the rink is ran by two of her grand daughters. They are friendly but clearly overworked. The staff does not wear a uniform or name badge making them hard to identify unless you are a regular. Some days the staff also has the responsibility of watching young children in addition to their duties. The owners younger grand kids are also fixtures on the rink and the older ones can get a little reckless. The rental skates: The skates appear old and well used.(See my picture for an example) The majority of the skates are the high boot dance/artistic style skates. Some speed skates(up to men’s size 13) are available for an extra fee. Your street shoes will be held as a deposit to rent speed skates. Note: The rink does not rent or allow inline skates to be brought in. The rink does rent skate trainers for an extra $ 3.00 fee. Because of the limited staff the line does get long at the rental counter when the rink opens. Common areas: The common area where you put your skates on and store your belongings is carpeted. This carpet is in fair condition but is visibly dirty and stained. It clearly has not been vacuumed in some time. See picture. The rink: The skating floor is a typical maple floating floor that is in fair condition. There is noticeable warping on the North end. I don’t know the size of the rink but it is a small(short and narrow) rink. 50 or so skaters will make the rink feel crowded. The South wall of the rink is covered in blue and silver stripped carpet that is worn and torn in many areas. The East wall is wood paneling. Caution: Be careful of the emergency door on the East wall. The North and West wall is about 3 feet high and covered with worn out gray carpet. In all four corners of the rink there are holes in the baseboards. See pictures. Sound system and music: The sound systems consists of 4 speakers, one in each corner. The volume is appropriate, but the sound quality is lacking. There is no subwoofer. There is no DJ, and the rink does not take requests. Lighting: The bright fluorescent lights are kept on pretty much the entire session. In each corner of the rink there is a DJ light but I have never seen them used. In the center of the rink there is a(damaged) mirror ball and a rotating duel globe DJ light. When these lights are turned on they are not bright enough to create the typical roller rink atmosphere. Floor guards: The rink does not employee floor guards. When the rink is busy with inexperienced skaters this is a problem. Skating session: There could be any combination of the following: Races, 4 corners, hokey pokey, couples skate, and backwards skate. Due to staffing there could be none at all. The concession stand: The concession area is usually staffed by one person. The selection is typical roller rink food. Pizza, pretzels, french fries, candy, soda, and slushies. The concession prices are reasonable.(When I visited on 02−22−15 the slushie machine was not working. See picture). Due to staffing levels, the tables may not be clean.(See picture) Pro shop: There is one but the door is closed and they don’t appear to have any inventory. They do have a catalog which you can order skates from. Novelty shop: Next to the concession stand there is a novelty shop that sells glow sticks and other lighted novelties. Due to staffing, it is usually closed. Play area: There is a small play area for children under 4. According to the sign posted, a parent must accompany the child. The play area was put in in the last few years. This is the nicest area/feature of the rink. However due to lack of staffing it is typical to see older kids in there. Party area: There are 4 party areas separated by a 3 foot wall. Each area has a picnic table. Like the rest of the building, the party area could use a good cleaning. Bathrooms: The men’s bathroom is dated and has a noticeable odor. There is no door on the stall and more disturbingly there is no soap dispenser. The men’s room needs a top to bottom cleaning. I have not been inside the women’s rest rooms but my daughter says they are disgusting. See photos.
