Walked into a completely empty room and was very worried about this place. Apparently they were setting up for a big party in the front room and none of the guests had arrived. We were seated in the back in a booth(which was terrific!) NO gluten free menu — which was a downer. I picked out the nachos(which is usually a great gf pick) and my husband pick the stuffed shrimp in angel hair pasta. We both got the house salads with homemade dressing(DELICIOUS!) This is a pizza/pasta place but we found the service, food, and prices to be a great value. Would definitely come back!

Thought this was same pizza as Lou LaGrottos in Peru. NOT. Nice place but pizza was very greasy and crust nothing like the pizza at Lou’s. Should have gone the extra miles!

Love spending my Friday nights here with Sherry, Destiny, and Lisa at the bar! Beyond believable service, awesome buffalo chicken deep dish pizza(with incredible chunky blue cheese dressing of course), hot chicken bites, and loaded nachos. You will not be disappointed with any of it! The girls are attentive, funny, and all of them lend their own personalities to the atmosphere. Ron has a great crew with those three!

I’ve eaten here twice now, their pizza is very good and the hot wings are good too. Last time I went I ordered the spaghetti with meatsauce and added Italian sausage. It was terrible! Very bland sauce and the sausage was seriously like a spicy diced up hotdog. It was not good. The décor and atmosphere is nice and all the people I’ve interacted with were very nice.

Had a party for 11 on 2÷21÷15. I don’t know if they were understaffed or what. Our food orders came out sporadically, 2 at a time, only 1 sever. One person in our party ordered an appetizer… That arrived after his dinner order came. On the plus side, everyone in our group enjoyed their food. My wife and I ordered their Super Subs, which were warm, tasty and very filling. We’ll go back there I’m sure, hopefully they’ll have enough staff to accommodate everyone.

Amazing deep dish pizza!(I’m from Chicago) Go for the nuggets too. Nice sit-in area with a bar menu. I always stop by when I’m visiting Starved Rock.

Good pizza and pasta place. Had a meat lovers pizza and eaten the pasta there many times. Atmosphere is nice. The place is clean. Service is good. Nothing stands out as amazing, but I’ve also never been disappointed when eating there. Consistency is important when I’m eating out.

Great food & exceptional service, I was out with my friends & we had a great time as our server was AMAZING… I believe her name was Destiny, and she did an awesome job serving our large group on a snow Saturday night. Every server should learn from her level of attentiveness & service. Thanks Destiny! I’m glad I left her a good tip as she truly deserves it.

The food was delicious. I had the spinach artichoke ravioli. The sauce was very tasty. Service was very good, but just a little slow in clearing away the used dishes. Overall, very good Italian food!

Not great food. We tried the nuggets and they were good, but it was a HUGE amount. I got the shrimp pasta w mushrooms and it was very oily and heavily seasoned. Good came out very fast as another reviewer said and the salad wasn’t much more than iceberg. Good service though! Might go back to try the pizza next time.

Not bad for a small town. Had the fried calamari and fried cheese sticks appetizer and artichoke and spinach ravioli. The main dish comes with salad and bread which I did not even touch because the dinner portions are so big. The fried calamari was not chewy, the marinara sauce OK. Not bad. The cheese sticks were normal, the sauce was not the usual marinara, nothing wrong with it just different. The pasta was tasty. Like the chunks of blue cheese on my salad dressing. Salad was fresh. Service was fast so do not think dishes are made from scratch. More of a family restaurant than a high end Italian Restaurant.

This place is all about the pizza. The thin crust pizza is some of the best around. My favorite to order is the veggie pizza thin crust, and garlic nuggets for an appetizer. You honestly can’t beat it. Thick crust is great too, just a bit filling. Their subs are unique too. Go here and order pizza. That’s their focus.

R Grotto Ristorante is the exact same stuff as Lou’s La Grotto over in Peru. I think I heard this guy stole all of his grandmother’s recipes and went off and opened this place over in Ottawa. I like the pizza and the appetizers but I think most of the other stuff is not that great. This place is set up to look fancier than the one in Peru though but the service is not much better. I don’t know if they charge more for their food because I was on a date and he paid the bill so I didn’t pay much attention to the prices. I am going to go back and compare sometime. I think when I went I had chicken fettuccine alfredo, mozzarella sticks, and a glass of wine. I didn’t think it measured up to Lou’s. If you’re looking for a nice place to go eat in Ottawa, I would recommend Woody’s Steakhouse or Alberto’s. The service is not good here and they are just copying off of La Grotto anyway.

Every thing Italian about this restaurant is bland, They have a full bar how ever in all of my experiences the liqueur has been watered down; shots of whiskey go down like water and a long island tastes like watered down lemonade with a dash of vodka. That being said the pizza and fried food almost make up for the lack luster I-talian cuisine if you stop in I recommend Pizza and fried food hot wings etc stay away from every thing else.

Don’t bother. It was recommended by the hotel staff but I’m not sure why. Other than quantity, there is not much to say. The chicken parmesan was bland and chewy. Definitely overcooked the chicken breast(I thought it would be a tenderized cutlet, at least that’s how I make it). The sauce had no flavor what so ever. The salad was boring and the dressing overdone. Not worth the calories.

Oh, geez… This place… It’s a small town’s version of an I-talian(yes, I also winced at the pronunciation) eatery. More for families and high school dates than anything else. The salad and bruschetta were eh. Frankly, they could have been much better, but I wasn’t expecting all that much to begin with, so it could have been much worse, I guess.

We were staying nearby for a night to go to Starved Rock and the Burgoo festival. We were tired from hiking and just wanted a light bite, and we had only a few restaurants to choose from and our hotel had suggested this, as a good I-talian place(their pronounciation). I had a dinner salad(basically iceberg with a slice of tomato and a slice of cucumber) and fried mozzarella sticks. They were ok. My friends had a Greek salad, a caesar salad, garlic bread, and bruschetta. I think everything was passable, and we didn’t really expect more from this small town. We should have just taken the short drive to Utica though, where I think the options are better.
