I love quirky old motor inns, generally for the value and for the nostalgia. This one is great on both accounts. The sign on the main drag into town is enough for me to stay. While my room was in desperate need of some serious spring cleaning(carpet cleaning and bathroom bleaching), the linens are clean, and the bed is beyond comfortable. Add wifi for under $ 40, and I’ve got a winning combination. For those of you that need newer places, I’d recommend staying closer to the highway. At a minimum though, Ottawa is worth a drive into town, and it won’t hurt to stop by the Sands Motel before you spend your money elsewhere.

Much better than I would expect for $ 45. Extremely clean and very quiet. Within walking distance to downtown shops and restaurants. No complaints!

Not too bad for what you pay. Rooms are pretty much your basic everyday motel room with satellite t.v. and whatnot. I think there was free HBO, but HBO sucks anyhow so whatever. People upstairs wer noisy as all hell. It sounded like there was an army of Sasquatches running around all night, but it just turned out to be a family with a few kids they obviously couldn’t control. Shower had really good water pressure and hot water which was a plus. They provide soap of course, and shampoo. I guess for the 45 bucks it was a pretty good deal. There is a bike/walking trail right next to the place which is cool. The place is right near the downtown Ottawa area so there are places around to check out, and it is within a blocks walk of a pretty decent steak joint called Woody’s where I had the biggest damn prime rib I’ve ever seen.
