Stopped in on our way to go hiking at the nearby state parks. One of the few places in Illinois that carries WINE and BOOZEICECREAM. It was a necessary stop. The establishment was clean and we were promptly welcomed. However, the food was underwheming. I had a grilled cheese panini and my friends had the soup of the day(broccoli cheese). We were all«meh» on the taste. I also ordered a pickle that was too soft, like it had been sitting in the brine for too long. The ice cream was the highlight. They had an interesting and wide selection of flavors and toppings. Go for the ice cream.

I’m so happy that this place moved into downtown Ottawa to end the soft-serve-only craziness that pervaded this town. Sticky Lizard offers soft-serve yogurt and hard-scoop ice creams that customers dress themselves with the sweet condiments available at the sundae bar. This shop is cute, cozy, and the staff is super friendly. They also offer unique candies, like many old-timey ice cream shops. There are two downfalls, however. The first is the price. You pay by weight, and if you choose the smallest cup available and fill it, you’re looking at about $ 6 for your sundae, which is about 30% more than you would pay for other sundaes around town. A good solution here would be to offer a smaller cup, especially for children. The second problem here is what I believe to be the most egregious: NOCONES! It wouldn’t take much effort to keep cones in-house, and I would easily overlook the priciness of such a cute place if I could get a hard scoop in a cone like one could at ye olde ice cream shoppes. Nothing beats ice cream in a cone on a hot summer day! I beseech you, Sticky Lizard: give us cones or force us to begrudgingly visit your competitors!

Great ice cream… and the topping choices are fabulous! Cute shop and inviting to have a sit and enjoy! I’ll have to return and try the yogurt next time.
