This place is awesome. The beach is breath taking and is a short walk from the punch bowl. Really happy we stopped by to see what the hype was about. We’ll have to come back when the tide is low!

At high tide, you can only appreciate the punchbowl from the observation point above the punchbowl. It’s not that impressive. You can see incoming tide enter the punchbowl and then wash out. It’s not like the waterspouts you can see in places like Hawaii where the water spurts up with great force. The Devil’s punchbowl is actual more interesting at low tide. You can access the beach via at trail that starts at the end of the street from the picnic table/restroom area that you pass on the way to the observation point. Trail is short and marked as trail. At low tide, you can enter the punchbowl itself and really appreciate the magnitude of the punchbowl and see how the water has eroded the stone. There are also tide pools in the rocks around the area that are fun to explore. We saw a few enormous Pacific chitons, which I had never seen before. Tide pools were also more accessible and extensive than at Cannon Beach. We went at morning low tide, so not sure how accessible the punchbowl and tide pools are when the tide is not as low.

There is just something about this park I really dig. If you go early in the morning, you will have the place entirely to yourself. If you go later in the day, it will be packed with looky-loos and you will be hard-pressed to get a good view. Go before Mo’s opens, and you will get the best experience.

I enjoyed this spot. but mostly for the beach, not for devil’s punchbowl. Unless you can find a way down, which is blocked off and not open to the public, you can’t see much, or get too many awesome photos like the ones online. I wish I could have seen half of what was shown to me online but with the 20 or so tourists around I just didn’t feel comfortable jumping the gate and trying to find a way in.

Devil’s Punch Bowl is a great natural attraction. If you have time it’s great to visit twice-once at hight tide and once at low tide. You can check tide charts online. At hight tide it’s fun to see the waves crash into the rocks and create large splash walls. Low tide is a perfect time to walk down to the beach and explore the natural features. You can comb the rock beds on the beach for sea creatures, hike into the Bowl for some beautiful pictures, and/or spend some time on the beach drawing in the sand, building sand castles, or having a picnic. This is also a great place to whale watch during migration. We saw up to three different whales spouting today! Bring binoculars. There is a nice grassy lookout at the top of the Punch Bowl that has picnic tables and room for kids to play. It also offers some beautiful views of the coastline. And to too it all off… it’s FREE!

This is a nice, free place to get a great view of the coast and some beautiful rock formations. It’s not a terribly big park, but it does have a nice(but short) walking path around it. A few little shops are right next to it, which looked like cute places to check out. It’s worth checking out if you’re in the area.
