Pro Tan Tanning Center

I moved to the small town of Ottumwa and started a membership here. It was Ok, a little outdated but I signed up due to the lack of salons in the area. I did get tan, even though the beds are a little older. The bulbs were new. So that was important. However as a previous Tanning Salon Owner, I was slightly ucomfortable with walking in each day and seeing the butt cheeks of a teenager who had way too large of a butt to be wearing the short shorts she had on! I had to try to divert my eyes each time I went in. And trust me, it was difficult to not see it when it was right there in front of my face when she would turn around to get my lotions. The owner (an older Grandpa looking gentleman, (very friendly guy) was right there too. That shouldn’t be allowed, very unprofessional & embarrassing. Anyway, My husband was suddenly transferred out of state with only 2 days notice, so we were frantically packing & as I was pasing by the salon on my way to get lunch, I remembered I could transfer my sessions to another member if I ever moved before using them up. (We knew we were only there temporarily and I had bought a large package, so I had asked at the time of purchase). So, I ran in and did just that. I transferred them to my housekeeper, who also tanned there. So in my haste, I forgot to get my recently purchased lotions, (about $ 150 worth). When we finally got all moved in to our new home 8 hours away, I was thinking of tanning and realized I had forgotten them. So I called the Salon to ask if my friend, who I gave my sessions to could pick them up for me and mail them to me. I was told that they had recently made a policy, one that there is no way I could have known of, since it was just made and not posted when I was in there, that they could not give any lotions to anyone except the owner. I said I understood that policy, so I offered to mail a box with paid postage to them so they could mail them to me, They said NO! I would have to physically come in and show my face!!! Come on now, why would I drive over 8 hours to get lotions??? I have no other reason to ever go back to that small depressed town, whatsoever!!! I have no ties there. Now, as a previous tanning salon owner myself, I totally understand the reason for this policy. However, mine is an extremely unusual situation to say the least. Like anyone would go thru such trouble to steal lotion, seriously!!! I feel the lack of personal customer service in this situation was totally uncalled for. The person on the phone said they would keep my lotion for however long it took for me to come back to get it! I will never go back there I am sure. A privately owned place like this can make an exception if they want, I know this for a fact. I was speaking to the owners grown daughter, she can do what she wants. I think this is completely ridiculous. To top it all off, she was rude to me also and that was uncalled for. I think people in small towns with businesses need to be a little understanding. It’s called good customer service!!! I need to remember, that Word-​of-​mouth and online reviews can make or break a place like this.
