Four stars just for having Springfield style cashew chicken that is just like it is supposed to be. Egg rolls are tender and delicious.

OK — love smaller places like this, but don’t think I will be hurrying back anytime soon. Restaurant is small, intimate, and the food was decent. Only one server/host, but pretty efficient. Fried rice was different — not your typical rice, and was a lot more saucy. Portions were smallish, but tasty. Biggest issue was the chunk of plastic that was cooked into my entrée. Yes, plastic — I thought it was a crunchy onion, but nope. Industrial packaging plastic. Pointed it out to the server, and another woman(owner likely) came out to apologize and explained that the plastic meant that the beef was fresh. Huh? She took 10% off the meal. I think next time I’ll go somewhere else.

I can’t believe someone would give this place even one star. Hands down the worst Chinese food I have ever had! Ordered Orange Chicken and Crab Rangoon Chx was under cooked and bland the Rangoon was stuffed full of cream cheese and nothing else even the fortune cookie was old and tastelessness. Panda Express is cheaper and better than this place! Stay away or you will be sorry…

I met with eight others here for dinner around 7pm on a Friday and it wasn’t busy at all. This was a small restaurant and our group took up one of the round tables which I believe there were only two with the rest being booths. The parking lot had a lot of spaces left so parking wasn’t an issue. There was only one waiter taking everybody’s orders but it really wasn’t that busy to have more than one at the time. There were two menus: one with only English and the other one with Chinese/English. We ordered a number of entrees and shared everything family-style. There was some miss-communication because we somehow got the Family Dinner for 9($ 13.95 per person) which came with 1 soup, 5 side dishes and 7 entrees even though we didn’t say we wanted that. Regardless, here was what we ordered: Beef Scallion($ 13.95), Beef Brisket Hot Pot($ 13.95), Fish Fillet in Wine Sauce($ 16.95), Pepper & Salt Pork Chop($ 13.95), Sesame Chicken($ 10.95), Sizzling Black Pepper Beef($ 11.95), Seasonal Vegetable with Garlic($ 10.95) and two orders Seafood Tofu Soup($ 8.95 each). We waited quite a while for something to come out. I forgot the exact name but buns came out as an appetizer and they were just buns without anything in them. That was not bad but I was also hungry so that was why it wasn’t bad. A little longer then the Seafood Tofu Soup came out to the table. It was good but I would have liked some white pepper to go with it. There was only black pepper on the table. The Fish Fillet in Wine Sauce came out next and it was actually good. I wasn’t expecting that the fish was breaded but it worked well with the wine sauce in my opinion. Next was a dish we didn’t order and I couldn’t tell which menu item that was. It must have been related to the Family Dinner for 9 that we didn’t order. There were vegetables on the plate and someone said beef tongue in the middle. The vegetables were not bad and I didn’t try the beef tongue(if that was what it was). We received a Seafood Hot Pot($ 13.95) that we didn’t order and the Beef Brisket Hot Pot shortly after. Both of those were good so I’d recommend either one. The Sesame Chicken was okay and and same with the Beef Scallion. The next dish was Barbecue Pork Chop($ 12.95) which we didn’t order and it was okay. The Sizzling Black Pepper Beef was good and the Pepper & Salt Pork Chop was delicious. The last dish was the Seasonal Vegetable with Garlic and that was okay. Overall, the food was good here with a few mixed up orders and some miss-communication. Don’t be surprised if you get dishes you didn’t order but if you can ignore that, then come check this place out. I gave them 3 stars because the food was good; otherwise, it would have been 2 stars.

It’s a bit pricier than others(in terms of price and portion), BUT… If you can’t tell the differences between one Chinese restaurant and another, that’s really your loss. I can’t blame you for that as most of them offer the same menu items on printed menu to cater to American’s appetite. If you want something unexpected, however, always ask for the menu with authentic dishes! Andy’s Wok has been around for many years, from its first location(known to me anyway) near by Hen House on Roe and 119th, then expanded to a larger location behind Cheesecake Factory, and finally downsized to a more intimate location at 148th and Metcalf. Good thing is the friendly owner and never changes and still offer good **Taiwanese** dishes.(So there, don’t just stick your head and keep asking for moo shoo pork, kong pao chicken and egg drop soup!) One small downside being they don’t always have ingredients for its authentic dishes, so again, like some other Chinese restaurants in the area(like Fortune Wok on 135th and Neiman), call ahead and find out what they offer and recommend.

Best Chinese food I’ve had in Kansas City. I’ve eaten there every time I’ve visited Kansas City since 2004. We will drive all the way from downtown or Country Club Plaza just to eat there. My favorite are the Mapu Tofu(for you tofu fans) and the napa with shitake mushrooms. The steamed buns are also fantastic. Highly recommended!

Best Chinese food in town. Every time I go to Kansas City, I have to go there for their steamed buns! Their steam buns are not very pretty, but in terms of taste, they are right on the spot. They have a large menu, but everything we’ve ordered and tried here thus far tasted great. This place is quiet and clean, and their blend of tea is smooth. I like this place!

Lettuce wraps, dumplings, lamb and service were terrific! My girlfriend ordered a calamari dish and the squid smelled like it had been sitting on a hot beach for five days before it was shipped to KC. A quick fix was made and the meal ended great!

When I arrived during the peak lunch hour time on 1−22−11, I was surprised to find the restaurant nearly empty. After I sampled the food and the poor service, I know why the place was close to empty. I ordered shrimp and asparagus with fried rice. The portions were skimpy, the price very high, and the food so salty I could barely eat it. I left hungry with a wallet much lighter because of the high price of $ 7.95 for what could best be described as a child’s portion. I was very disappointed with the service. Instead of removing my soup bowl first then placing my entrée in front of me, the male waiter just plopped my entrée down on the side of the table and left without removing my empty soup bowl. Overall I thought the service was surly and inattentive. I can afford to eat out only rarely, so what was supposed to be a big treat for me ended with only disappointment and a vow to never set foot in Andy’s Wok again, unless of course, I want salty food, tiny portions, and a price higher than any other Chinese restaurant I have been in.

I thought the price for a combination lunch would be a bit cheaper. Overall, the Egg Drop Soup was good. I prefer white pepper to add to it but used the regular pepper. Just a preference thing. I had the Szechuan Chicken. It had one of the«spicy» marks on the menu, but, it wasn’t spicy at all. Plus there wasn’t much chicken either. It was overloaded with a lot of sauce and veggies. I love veggies but when I order a chicken meal I expect more chicken than veggies. Now…for the main focus… Crab Rangoon. I had one piece with the combination and it was the highlight of my lunch. It was truly a Midwest delight… lots of garlic, lots of cream cheese, a hint of «crab», fried to perfection. YUM!!! It was a nice place with decent service for lunch. I do think it was a bit pricey for a lunch combo. I am used to paying less than $ 6 or so for a combination with a drink. But, I would go back to try other meals especially since I am craving their Crab Rangoon.

dear andy, when i ordered brown rice, i was not looking for white rice soaked in soy sauce. if you don’t serve brown rice, don’t go out of your way to fake it. thanks.

Go here for lunch because their specials are awesome. This is as Americanized as Chinese food can get. Lots of shortening, lots of fat. The chicken and vegetable are good. Sometimes I have trouble understanding the wait staff, but they’re all very kind.

this place isnt cheap on Sundays– i wish i would have been on a day for the lunch menu– it is clean place VERY attentive servers and welcoming staff and its got a nice restful feeling to it of course i was there off time on a sunday afternoon because my first choice was closed and my second choice was packed and i dont wait. i was hungry and tired of driving so i stopped here because eggrolls sounded good– i liked my eggrolls but didnt really like my entrée but happily was so full from the eggrolls it didnt matter well the spent entrée money i wasnt thrilled with but i knew by stopping at a place i wasnt sure about its reviews i had odds of throwing that out the window. i should have just gotten the kung pao since its a house specialty– and it really was what i wanted but the spice factor stops me so instead i went for the mongolian beef. the ingredients were fine the beef was tender and i liked the crispy noodles and rice just to MY taste they overcooked the sauce and it was wayy too thick and strong. like they used SUPER soy in it or something. keep in mind i didnt send it back for the reason that i really wasnt that hungry for it and perhaps at another time another cook it would be good. or perhaps all along i was getting mongolian beef the WRONG way and this is the right way. i am picky when it comes to how i like mongolian beef, thats why i gave a aok hoping to upgrade to i’m a fan when i find an entrée i liked better. the egg rolls were great i feel if i went back tried something else when i truly wanted chinese food i could see myself finding something i liked here since i liked the place and its obviously well tended and the staff takes pride in serving thier customers. the menu IS extensive — and even though there was a large party i was seated away from them and was able to have a nice quiet meal.

Too Fru Fru for me. This is a hotspot for all of the conceded rich folks of the world. Just go for a visit at lunch. With a colleague ended up trying their fried rice. There was absolutely nothing special about it including the fact that the lunch size portion of the dish was enough to eat but the price was overwhelming for the rice you got($ 7.95 if I recall for a bowl). Bo Ling’s fried rice destroys Andy’s. And we all know how much I like Bo Lings, right? I will admit, the egg drop soup was very delicious and left me fairly impressed. Although it is a rarity for me to want to go to a restaurant just for egg drop soup(Unless it’s Red Snapper). Service was decent. Our server was very cordial and was on the ball when it came to keeping our water full. No complaints here. I will be going back to try something that’s not fried rice. Since they screwed up this faux«flagship dish» I doubt my rating will go up in the future although I have been wrong before.

There’s a lot of bad Chinese food out there, but this is not one of those places. This has the best Mu Shu(Pork, Chicken, Beef and/or Vegy) I’ve ever had. The service is good. The menu is extensive. The atmosphere is great for large groups or parties.
