Fortune Wok

I love this place!!! They have the best lemon chicken anywhere in Kansas City area. The crab rangoon is great, the dumplings are superb, and the staff is very nice. I have read that they offer gluten free and I have a family member with celiac, so we will be eating there again soon! They do get busy, and they should be, they’re a great place to go.

Best Chinese food in KC! Lettuce wraps, orange chicken, hot and sour soup are all amazing. I never go anywhere else.

Incredible quality and really great staff. There is no question this is the best Chinese food in the city. We love the chicken lo mein and mo shu pork.

We went there for a dinner on Sunday night. Food is good, decoration is good, but service is really bad. We had a 50-​year-​old waitress served us, she was really rude and even yawned to us when we complaining about food coming up too late. The case is people sitting beside us ordered food later than us and finished dinner before us, at that moment we had no any dish on table. This is not just late, it is way late than it suppose to be. later on this lady also ask us gave her more tips than 15% of the whole price, and then taught us how to pay tips… We even don’t know what to say. You think we are coming to your place to seek people teach us how to pay tips? Receiving this kind of service and ASK more tips… She is the worst of the worst waitress I have ever seen.

The food was very fresh! So delicious. The waitress was very friendly and offered great food suggestions. Loved the Roasted Chicken Wok!

Unilocal did it again. This little place doesn’t look like much on the outside. But once inside very authentic, soft friendly feeling. The food was yummy but as reported Hugh portions. Bring a friend. Crab Rangoon was amazing. Sauces made it better. Trust Unilocal on the one. 5 stars all the way. Service was spot on.

This is by far our favorite Chinese restaurant. We frequent them regularly for both dine in and carry out. The food is always excellent, and the portions are huge. The interior is very clean and as a bonus they usually have a sports game on the TV in the corner. We will continue to drive the extra mile to get our Chinese fix from Fortune Wok.

I will never stop enjoying this place. It is better to do take-​out than sit down but the food is always delicious. The crab Rangoon is crispy and not too sweet. I always order the sesame chicken, which is a hefty amount of food. It is a tad pricey but totally worth it. I wish they did delivery!

Best Chinese in all of KC. Hands down. I’ve been going to Fortune Wok for probably 15 or 16 years and moved away from the area 11 years ago. I’ve tried to find comparable Chinese closer to where I live now but have had zero success. Rick is the BEST!!!

The reviews were right. This place is fantastic! The atmosphere is nice, it’s very clean, the service was good, and the food was great. Seems like everyone knows the owner/​Mgr which in my books is a sign of a good restaurant with repeat customers.

I went to this excellent and authentic eatery tonight and I’m in love.
We were seated almost immediately as we stepped in the door. The waiting staff was very attentive and polite. The food quality was amazing

For those who are looking for equally great dishes try: Pad thai (better than most thai places in KC), hunan chicken, wok roasted vegetables and vegetable basil fried rice

I recently moved from Chicagoland to Overland Park and I was certain I’d never find quality Asian food here. I was wrong. This place is as good as any in Chicago. I’ll be back frequently. General tso chicken a tad orangey but still very good. The special friend rice was amazing and chock full of huge shrimp. Portions are really large.

My inner gourmand was telling me to drive past any Chinese restaurant in a strip mall with «Wok» in its name. .. but I was hungry. I fought off my culinary haughtiness and went in.
Fortune Wok is solid Chinese, as I say, in the American tradition. I had a friend years ago whose parents were Chinese restaurateurs. She told me that what they cooked in the kitchen for themselves was nothing like what they cooked for their customers. Authenticity? Forget about it! Selling food that suburban Americans will actually buy, and keep buying, trumps the silly notion of authenticity every time. So…
On my first trip I had the Wok Roasted Shrimp. The next time I went with the Seafood Triple Delight. In between those visits, I tried their Metcalf location. I prefer the 135^th location even though it’s further away. As noted the food is good. Preparation, seasoning and presentation of entrees get high marks. I’m working my way through the appetizer menu but nothing to rave on yet.
The service is pot luck. On my first visit I had an energetic young waiter who was friendly and attentive throughout my meal. She was great. The next time I had a waiter who was more interested in watching the Royals on the bar TV than taking care of his tables.
I’m giving three and a half stars rounded up to four. I think you’ll appreciate the consistency and quality.

Wonderful food, atmosphere, and service. I got the General Chicken, their gluten-​free version. Never had such a great gluten free breaded item such as theirs. Just wowed me with the flavor and texture. Will be returning here when the desire for Chinese food springs up. A MUST try!

Excellent food. Very big portions. Little expensive than your typical Chinese restaurant. I wanted extra shrimp since I was sharing with my daughter. Changed my mind when he said extra shrimp is one dollar per shrimp. They do give you eight shrimp but when you’re sharing you want a few more.

Probably the best Chinese food in the Overland Park area.
Caution: Portions are huge. Think PF Changs family style. 3 of us didn’t know that and ordered 3 different meals. It was a ton of food.
Food was delicious. I’m a big orange chicken foodie and this place was on point! Great flavor without a ton of breading to get in the way. Large pieces of chick as well.
Little known fact: this place has a full service bar! They make very good mixed drinks as well.

really good quality Chinese food! Had the Chicken pad thai and the basil jalapeño beef. the Basil is Chinese basil. The owner asked if we wanted the Chinese menu and we said sure, and he wrote out a list of dishes on the normal menu for us, in Chinese characters. We asked about prices and he said $ 17 a dish. That would be a rip off. So don’t do that.
Still 5 stars though because the food is good and the prices are reasonable

So glad we stumbled upon this place! While what we had wasn’t amazing, I think it was more a matter of ordering the wrong thing than the quality of our dishes.
We ordered the wok-​roasted shrimp and mu-​shu chicken. The mu-​shu was really good and the meat and veggies weren’t shredded (and that’s a good thing). Guess some presentation would have been nice, but it was tasty. The wok-​roasted was a little too crispy and sweet for our liking, but it was still pretty good.
Most importantly, our picky kids enjoyed the food! We ordered a kids plate with sweet and sour chicken and subbed fried rice for the fries, plus crab rangoon. They loved the rice and crab rangoon.
We will definitely be back!
