I miss George’s!!! *sadface* I started going to George’s in 1994 and it had since been my #1 favorite pizza place, which is saying a lot considering my passion for PIZZA. The St. Louis style pizza with mixed provel and mozzarella cheese on a crispy cracker crust was perfection. The pizza was slightly better when the place was known as Leo’s and George and Evelyn ran it with their daughter manning the ovens, but fortunately the quality did not suffer much when Larry and Hui Ping bought the place — it was still my #1 favorite place. My biggest disappointment was that despite my consistent visits for many years, Larry and Hui Ping never acknowledged me as a repeat customer. George always greeted me with a big smile and Evelyn always had a hug ready, but Larry and Hui Ping acted like they’d never seen me before. Despite that, I kept coming back for the tasty pizza and salads with Marie’s house dressing. Yum yum yum!!! How I miss it… Sadly, I doubt they will be reopening. My understanding is they had been in that location for so long that the rent was ridiculously cheap and they can’t manage in another location with current rent fees. Can anyone recommend another local St. Louis style pizzeria? I must get my fix.

I am so sad that George’s is closed. I know that location was low rent, but with so little visability from the street, I understand how the business did not do well. I hope that the owners can find a better location that will increase their customers, and keep them in business for a long time!

I was driving across the country, and stopped into George’s Pizza. It was the best place I ate the whole trip. I knew nothing about the St. Louis style of pizza before walking in, but I’ve been telling everyone who will listen about it since. The cheese was amazing! I was waited on by a gentleman who was extraordinarily helpful and knowledgeable. He went through the history of the restaurant and the St. Louis style of pizza, and the Provel cheese. It really added to the experience and made me sorry that I had to drive away. Don’t miss out on this great place!

Good pizza. It certainly has that«old family pizzeria» feel to it. Service was fine. Pizza was good and satisfying. I can’t say it was very unique, but nonetheless… good. It was quite greasy compared to some pies I’ve had. Summary: — Decent pizza with fine service — The interior gives a nice old family pizzeria feel — I for sure wouldn’t mind returning

To start this off right for those of you who want to get the most information in the first sentence, you should try this place. Now, for the rest of it. I was skeptical at first because the outside is run down and all the buildings around it are out of business. When we first walked inside, I got the feeling I was in a diner/cafeteria/pizza parlor/school lunch room. The décor is a mismatch of memorabilia and a fair collection of Kansas City Southern Railway stuff. We sat down and ordered off the hand written menu. They use paper plates and cheap checkered table clothes. I was not digging the paper plates at all. I understand cutting costs, but give me a real plate because pizza is a messy situation. The pizza was fabulous. We ordered the pepperoni and a combo italian sausage, onion, and mushroom. We also selected the provel cheese for both which is apparently(according to the menu) a St. Louis style cheese. It was very rich, as it was a combo of provolone, and two other cheeses that I don’t remember. I think I made false assumptions about the place by the looks, but I will be back for more.

George’s is St. Louis Style pizza but not really in the way of Imo’s. There is provel cheese involved however. For anyone who isn’t familiar with St. Louis style pizza it involves a thin usually cracker-like crust, then sauce, toppings, then provel cheese which is a processed cheese blend of cheddar, swiss, and provelone. It may sound weird, but when done right it is very delicious. I do NOT recommend getting straight provel: chances are you won’t like it(I have a friend who loves it that way though). I would highly recommend getting a mix of both provel and mozzarella. The provel adds a nice creaminess and browning factor while the mozzarella adds more body. The Italian sausage at George’s is awesome. I’d like to know where they get it. George’s a lunch special which is a mini pizza and salad(get the house Italian dressing — I think it is pretty great). It is a great special, but I also recommend getting a 10″ pizza or bigger sometime. Oh, and dine in for best results, especially if you’ve never been there before. George’s isn’t going to be for everyone, but, if you are aware of what St. Louis style means and give it a chance, it is awesome

I have to admit I went into this pizza shop a little biased. I went to St. Louis a couple of months ago and had the best pizza of my life so when I heard that George’s Pizza served St. Louis style pizza I knew I had to try it out. I remember going to this hole in the wall pizza joint when I was a senior in high school(many moons ago). It was a great place to chain smoke and order Coke after Coke without getting kicked out on a cold winter day. I was pleased to see that the ambience has not changed at all since I was there and the garlic cheese breadsticks were as good as I remembered. The pizza is OK, but was nothing compared to the pizza I had in St. Louis a few months ago. The food came very quickly and we were in and out within 30 minutes. Don’t expect anything fancy and if you are in the mood for a low key pizza joint then this may just be the place for you.

I drove by the Georges pizza sign everyday for close to a year before I finally decided to eat there. After I left the non-descript pizza joint in the back corner of a dying Valley View shopping center, I held my head in shame for ever, ever purchasing chain pizza. George’s uses a St Louis style recipe on thin crust. I was unaware that St. Louis had a pizza style, but I am nontheless sold, and this culinary delight may be the peace pipe between the rival cities of St. Loius and KC. The cheese pizza was fresh and hot and the interior and the whole experience reminded me of how a pizza parlor should be. They also sell sandwiches and I have not tried them yet, as I am always craving the delectable cheesy pies. George’s is a fabulous, affordable, fun place for all ages.

I love finding new small restaurants! The staff was very friendly and attentive both times we were there. I love their cheese pizza. I agree, the provel cheese is wonderful! The only thing that I didn’t like was the second time we were there, our pizza was a little too done… but still good, I plan to go back.

I’m a big fan of local businesses and since moving back to Overland Park two months ago, I’ve tried several in the area again. This one was new. The pizza was AMAZING. I’m generally not a fan of thin crust pizza, but this pizza is to die for. The provel cheese is great as well. I would recommend three or fewer toppings to really enjoy the beauty that is this pizza. The restaurant was really no-frills, very casual but incredibly CLEAN. Neato plastic plates show that they keep costs down but care about the presentation of the food(I’d be happier if I knew that they rinsed those plates and recycled them, but I’ve not asked yet). It’s a great place for kids and for date night. I look forward to trying some of their sandwiches as well.
