This is my «go to» store and I appreciate the warehouse feel. The staff is constantly polite and answer all my questions. I used to work at a liquor store and keeping them organized and clean can be time consuming. Metcalf Discount Liquor is constantly clean, organized, and well stocked. I also appreciate that they carry a great selection within many price ranges. Holidays can also be a quality test for many liquor stores. They always have items on hand, even late in the day/weekend.

If shopping over at Whole Foods, this liquor store is a definite stop for convenience when needing to pick up a bottle of wine to go with your Whole Foods dinner, or a good vodka to pair with the blue-cheese stuffed olives you just bought, to make that delicious straight-up vodka martini you’re craving. The store does have a «warehouse» feel to it, but the space they have allows for many more choices to ponder over. It’s fun to explore all the new seasonal beers they receive, as well as the rows of vodka & rum, and the many selections of wine offered. A couple times I’ve been in, they’ve offered some tastings, which have been fun to sample. Workers have been pretty helpful when needing assistance. This visit, picked up a bottle of Svedka Vodka. I saw they had Boulevard’s Rye On Rye available(limit 2), but didn’t get one.

I came to Metcalf Discount Liquor prior to a friend’s beer tasting party, for the sole purpose of building my own specialty six pack. I was disappointed with their selection single bottles, so I actually picked up a couple of 750 ml bottles. It looked like they had quite a bit of wine and a decent selection of spirits, but not the best craft beer selection, in my opinion

They carry our favorite organic Pinot Noir! Very difficult to find.

The one liquor store around that sells Free State Golden Wheat… this makes me happy. A wide selection of wine, beer, and liquor that goes beyond the typcial selection. I will definitely be back!

Definitely a solid liquor store in a convenient location, especially if you’re doing some grocery shopping at the Whole Foods next door. Wine selection isn’t huge, but is definitely big enough for any casual wine drinker, and probably even more. It’s not Lukas, but it will have something to satisfy you. Beer selection is fine. I heard about the specialty wall but didn’t see it myself. Of the beers I saw in the coolers, most were your standard brews of both domestic and international variety, both mass-produced and the smaller craft beers. Liquor selection is solid and has all you need. Service is very friendly and quick. Prices seem average… nothing particularly«discount» about it in my mind. All in all, a solid liquor store that I will return to if in the area.

Massive selection, though not a whole lot of Kansas and Missouri wines. My philosophy is, if your state makes wine, you should try it whenever possible. We don’t have world-class vineyards like those in California or in France, but in an economy hemmoraghing jobs, I’m happy to support the type that cannot be outsourced. Now that I’ve put in my own regionalist plug, I just wanted to note that there is a lot of wine, beer, and liquor here, at reasonable prices, with knowledgeable staff. In Missouri you don’t have to leave Whole Foods to buy liquor. Here in Kansas, just walk across the parking lot when you’re done grocery shopping.

Metcalf Discount Liquor should consider a name change. It carries far too great of a selection of fine wines and craft beers to be labeled with a «Dollar Store-esque» moniker. What I LIKED: * The workers know the products they sell. I asked for an Oregon Pinot Noir and the helpful associate knew exactly where four were located. * Great craft beer selection! They stock almost every creation from Free State, Boulevard, Shiner, New Belgium and Great Divide. There’s an easy to overlook wall on the West side of store that has rare beers. What I DIDN’T like: * The«Party Store» at front left sells soda and glasses. If the main store is busy you have to wait for a cashier which can be ten minutes. Better off going to a grocery or convenience store. * No single 12 ounce beer sales. Maybe it’s another weird Kansas law but I don’t always want to purchase six beers.

Great six pack shop in Overland Park, if you’re planning to stay for a couple of days. They’ve got a good selection of wine and a great beer selection. Reasonable prices.

I’d buy beer and liquor here, but not wine, like I did twice. The interior does look more like a liquor store. I should have walked out right there – but where the hell else is this out-of-towner to go? Plus, the wines are stored sideways in the proper way. There’s actually a wide variety of domestic and international wines, but the indoor temperature is a tad too warm. The two bottles I had were each slightly off-base, probably due to this.
