I know Piddle Paddle from a SUP Yoga class I did recently. SUP = Standup Paddleboard, so basically the board is your floating mat. They also offer board rental, guided tours, private lessons and other events. As for the SUP Yoga class, it was wonderful and I can’t wait to do it again. The class was out on Shawnee Mission lake in the evening. You meet at the boat docks and get a board. I was the only one who’d never been on a board so the instructor, Lexi, gave me the basics. We paddled across the lake into a cove where we anchored our boards and had class. It was a beautiful setting. You saw fish jumping, kayakers fishing, heard bull frogs crocking and a hot air balloon even passed over head. It was a great environment for a yoga class. Yoga on a board was tough, I fully expected to fall into the lake. But I didn’t! Lexi did a great job of guiding us through practice. We gradually worked up to some standing positions, helping us get accustomed to the practicing on the board. We concluded class with shavasana, one of the best ever. It felt like you were taking a nap on top of the water, so peaceful. Then we paddled back across the lake right at sunset. Such a beautiful scene, the pink and purples from the sky reflecting on the water. It was refreshing to my soul. I love a break from the norm, practicing in a new environment. I highly recommend taking a class. These will NOT go all year, unfortunately Kansas winer will come. But before it does, get out there for a class or two. Their website has class info, spots are limited so sign up early.
