This was my first time trying Korean food and it was amazing! We drove 30 mins to eat here and it was worth the drive. Service was a bit slow but the food more than made up for it. We will be back soon in the future.

Good restaurant. Great service. The spicy pork was really good. The side dishes were not particularly good in my opinion. The tofu ruined the broccoli, the fish cake was odd, and kimchi is just gross. Hard to take culture seriously when your dad keeps making Kim Jung Un jokes.

Enjoyed the variety of kimchi. I had the dot sol bibim bap in the hot pot! Yum. My husband had the most tender bulgogi I have ever tasted. We shared the spicy pork and potato soup for 2. It was amazing! I had read the reviews so I was prepared for the possibility of slow sevice. Perhaps they read the reviews because the service was faster than I could have asked for. The wonderful young waitress was working alone and sprinting to the kitchen. She was fantastic. The kitchen got our food out extremely fast too. We loved it and can’t wait to go back. We have been missing good Korean food since we moved here from Ft Riley KS.

I have been to Sobahn four times now, and all four times I have had a great experience. I have tried multiple dishes, and we did takeaway once. If you have never had Korean food, it’s a good place to start. The staff are more than happy to explain dishes for you, and they definitely give suggestions. It’s a good place to take a family, since it’s mostly tables and there is a lot of room in the restaurant. The dishes that I have had(and would recommend) are: haemul juk; tteok bokki(one of my favs); Sobahn tong galbi.

My extended family goes here all the time and recently I joined them for the first time. The dumplings are great and my family orders the bulgogi every time, but I tried the beef short rib dish, which is considerably more expensive, and thought it was much tastier and better quality meat. Nice staff and good food. I’m sure I’ll be back soon!

Arrived at 6:15 on a snowy Monday evening. There were probably 2 – 3 other tables when I walked in. The server/host was a young man, who greeted me promptly and had me seated within seconds of walking in. He was very polite, asking me if I if any questions, put my orders in very promptly and was overall just completely on top of everything, despite having a table of 8 needy yuppies, amongst a few other tables. He followed up with appetizer orders, got the check out promptly. Honestly I can’t say enough good things about this guy. He was on his game. This was my first experience with Korean food, so I don’t have any point of comparison. The little complimentary side dishes they provide offer a variety of levels of flavor, spice, and texture and were all delicious. I got the steamed dumpling appetizer, combined that with some soy sauce and kimchi, and it was very good. For an entrée I ordered the Dol Sot Bimbimbap. It arrived just as I was finishing my appetizer and came with a small bowl of seaweed soup that had a nice brown rice/green tea flavor to it. My entrée was excellent as well, beautifully presented and with a nice array of flavors. Perfect for a cold evening. Overall, great experience, and no complaints!

Wonderful experience. Had been craving bibimbap since moving back to KC from NYC and this one didn’t disappoint. I can’t wait to go back. Friendly service and very affordable. Great dinner on a chilly night.

Rant alert! We had a party of 6 — my family ordered around 6:40pm. My sister and I arrived at 7:00pm and didn’t get greeted until we started literally waving workers down to put in our orders at 7:10pm. There was a party of 5 next to us and a two-top and a couple of tables on the other side of the restaurant; with 3 servers, that should be manageable. We tried to get the attention of a server carrying a water pitcher to the table next to us so that she can fill our waters as well but without success. She must have tunnel vision. We flagged down another server to refill our hot tea pot. Oh, but it was cold. Sigh. We ordered the seafood pancake as an appetizer but it didn’t arrrive till 7:37pm. Yes, at this point, we were super hungry and kept a watchful eye on the time. Hungry and irritable. Few minutes after we devoured the delicious pancake, our dinner arrived: kimchi stew with glass noodles added, bulgogi, grilled mackerel, spicy pork, and stir fry glass noodles with beef. Everything tasted absolutely wonderful. Two thumbs up for the spicy pork! About the most excitement you’ll get out of me after this dinner experience. By this point, the party of 5 next to us left, and that’s when the server was more attentive to us. An improvement, I suppose. My first visit here was very similar. The server kept forgetting what we asked of her, and the food also took a long time. Bottom line: the service and ticket time just isn’t worth it. I hope you fare better.

Really good Korean food. I got the spicy pork bulgogi(I can’t remember the Korean name for it), and it was sizzling when the waiter brought it out to my table. It’s big enough to share(especially with the side dishes), but I was able to do it by myself. The service was great! I went at a slow time and was the only person in the restaurant, so it was really personable and speedy. I’ll go back to try the bibimbap and beef bulgogi for sure.

This is the absolute best Korean food in the midwest. Some of the best in the country. It really tastes like what I had in Korea. Sobahn is a small, family-run restaurant located in a non-descript strip mall across from an abandoned Hummer dealership. This is the best Korean food in KC. If you are not familiar with Korean food don’t be afraid to ask the server for recommendations! I found my new favorite dish, Jayekk Bokkum by talking to the server Helen and discussing my unyielding love for pork. Remember, you get many little side dishes of delectable treats: kim chi, pickled vegetables, fish cakes, and other snacks. Between these complimentary dishes and the large portion sizes, appetizers really aren’t necessary.

Sobahn has a nice atmosphere, décor, service, and definitely wonderful Korean food. We had ordered for our appetizer Kimbap(Korean sushi roll) which is neatly sliced and presented(see the photo), though my wife thought it was sliced too thin that it is hard to pick up with chop sticks without falling apart. For our main dishes, we decided to order some basic Korean dishes, Dol Sot Bi Bim Bap and the jaeyuk bokkeum(spicy pork stir fry). Both really good. The banchan(side dishes) that were served included five little plates of shredded radish, kimchi, seasoned broccoli, bean sprouts, and a thick flat noodle dish. I love the solid wood tables and chairs, which is something you don’t see everyday. This was on a Thursday so it wasn’t packed but there were several other tables being served. Only one server for everyone but she was very nice, efficient, and handled everyone of the tables in a professional timely manner. Now, if this was a weekend or if it was a packed night, I could see how the service can get bogged down, but it was just fine when we were here. We’ll definitely come back again and try a spicy soup or the Kalbi.

I normally don’t have time to write reviews anymore, but I’m writing this review while I wait(and wait and wait) for my check… First and foremost my fellow foodies, the food is good. Really good. However, the service is «lacking» in a serious way. I assume the only waitress working is related to the owners of this establishment. She look flustered and out of her element, inefficiently running back and forth with empty hands while tables remained uncleaned. I stood at the door waiting to be acknowledged for 10 minutes. I waited to order another 10 minutes. I waited another 20 minutes for my food to arrive. In my opinion, I would gladly pay another $ 2-$ 3 per entrée so that they could hire a more experienced server. I’m not saying fire the poor girl, but she probably needs more help, or at the very least some honest-to-goodness training. 1 — As a server, never have empty hands. 2 — Smile once in awhile, especially when you’re busy, foodies understand. 3 — At least acknowledge patrons standing at the door, first impressions mean a lot. Oh, my check finally arrived… I’m out of here after 1 hour 20 minutes.

Solid Korean on a Friday night. Had the Seafood Pancake for an appetizer and it was outstanding. My main dish was the dol sot bibim bap and the rice was nice and crispy in the stone bowl. The hot sauce on the side was a nice touch. I liked the banchan selection and service was fine. I’ll be back to try more things from the menu.

It’s a nice quiet, intimate area located in a Korean strip mall. I highly recommend the kimchi dol sot bap or kimchi jigae but be warn — your ass will be on fire for days but it’s a nice cleanser and taste absolutely delish! I realized that there is only one person who usually works there. She waits on the tables, cooks the food, and cleans! Hence why service is slow at times but what a girl! Considering that, food comes out relatively fast and the taste is delish.

sloooooow service. I went on a Saturday night with two other friends. Our waiter didn’t seem very happy there, and he was forgetful(okay, I get it. we all have one of those days every once in a while, so I hold no grudges against him). The side dishes were all very pleasant, but they are served in small, small, small amounts. I was getting embarrassed for my friends asking for refills… thrice. Food was good. I got the spicy tofu and egg stew with barley rice substitute for the usual korean white rice. The very reason I don’t love Korean food so much: my soup was salty to the max. I literally dumped the entire glass of water into the bowl and it was still substantially flavorful and spicy. If you like that, by all means, go for it! Tofu texture was excellent! I don’t think I will be like my friends, drive 20 min out there to get a meal of Sobhan. By the way, even IKEA will not lure me out there. the lamest IKEA ever.

Great hidden gem in KC. Service is wonderful, and the inside of the restaurant is clean… almost to the point of sterile, and very quiet. I’ve eaten here twice, most recently for lunch, and they start you off with kimchee and other vegetables. The kin mandu(pan friend dumplings) are delicious and perfectly seared, and the chicken bokkeum is served hot and spicy in a skillet with lots of vegetables that have been marinated to perfection. Highly recommend, great lunch spot that won’t leave you feeling over full and tired.

First time at this Korean spot. Nice décor, with a busy lunch crowd. I think they were a bit overwhelmed with the crowd, as the one server was doing a fantastic job distributing the meals. The meal was worth the wait. I had a delicious pork and potato stew, with a hit of heat. The pork and potatoes were perfectly tender, served in a spicy broth. My friend ordered a sizzling vegetable bowl with beef, between both of us, we each devoured our entire dish. Based on our flavorful dishes and the crowd, this place is worth the stop.

I had never tried Sobahn before and since we were in the immediate area, and it was right at 11 am, it seemed like a good lunch choice. Let me preface by saying that I am very critical about Korean food. I expect it to taste like my moms Korean cooking and sadly, that usually doesn’t happen in KC. I had wanted to try Sobahn for a long time and prepared my taste buds. We were quickly greeted and shown to our seats. Looking around, I saw several Korean patrons(a good sign) eating lunch or just starting to order. Ordering and the actual arrival of our meals was kind of on the slow side today, but our waitress was the only one covering the entire two room restaurant so that was understandable. Our waitress was very efficient and our water glasses were kept filled and she checked on us sporadically. Although she was the only one, she was hustling from table to table the entire time we were there! No complaints there. The food: I had bi bim bop in a hot stone bowl. Pretty tasty! My friend had pork bone soup with potatoes. Hot and spicy! Both were extreme temperature hot also so we had to wait in between eating more bites. Bonus when enjoying a Korean meal! The traditional banchan(sides) were kimchi, oi kimchi(cucumber), bean sprouts, fish cake and veggies, snow pea pods. I was hoping for radish kimchi or tofu but I’m sure the banchan change up regularly. Our meals were tasty and steaming hot. For a Korean meal in KC, it was pretty good today. Not nearly as good as moms, but it will do for now.

My husband and I tried Sobahn a few months ago for dinner. While the servers were friendly, they moved at a very slow pace. I wasn’t a big fan of what we ordered, but my husband enjoyed it. He lived in Korea for two years and thought it reminded him of one of his favorite dishes. From that visit, he had been wanting to return for lunch to try another dish he loved from his time there. I tried a pork and veggie dish that I really enjoyed and our 15-month-old loved the veggie pancake. I also loved two of the three sides(kimchi and the jicama-like dish). The service was better this time, not great but better. Would definitely return for lunch! It was a much better experience.
