Upper Crust Pie Bakery

Nice little bakery. My family are the ones with the sweet tooth, but I went in with them to sample their choices. A bit overpriced to me, but the fam just wants those tasty treats, so I think they’re okay with the prices. I’m a bit puzzled by them only being open four days of the week, but I’m no baker so maybe that’s normal in the bakery world. In any event, they made my family happy, so they’re okay in my book.

These pies are as close to perfect as I’ve had. Never had a bad experience. The crust is always perfect. Often, I call ahead to order a pie — that way I’m not disappointed that I don’t get the pie I want. This weekend we ordered a quiche and took it to the Lake. It was delicious. The owners and staff are alway helpful and smiling.

This is the place for pie lovers! We have tried a few flavors (cherry, strawberry rhubarb, peach and raspberry) all were delicious. I especially love that you can purchase mini pies for better sampling.

What a quaint, clean, delicious little gem of a shop.
Pros: This was absolutely some of the best pie I have eaten. Ever!
The service was great and the lady helping me took such pride in their product and you can taste it.
They serve pies by the slice, small 4″ mini pies, and large pies in a variety of unique and seasonal Flavors. I mean putting two of my favorite fruit Flavors together in a pie like, blackberry-​Apple as well as peach– raspberry is sheer culinary genius in my book. They had classic Flavors like coconut cream, cherry, and an almost perfect Apple pie. I only took off a small point because I felt it needed a few more apples to balance with the crust but the Flavors were spot on!!‘
They make big, fat, delicious cookies. I tried the snicker doodle and wanted to try the shortbread or sugar cookie but ran out of room. Oh well, I guess I have to try again tomorrow. Practice makes perfect.
Cons:
The prices are high. This was a dilemma for me and I have to take away a star for that. I purchased 2 mini pies (cuties) and 1 cookie and paid almost $ 20.
In closing I want to say that I will return because the desserts are exquisite and if your craving pie I can think of no better place. I will save extra change in my piggy bank and budget it if I have to because I look at it this way; Could it be more reasonably priced? Yes. But… these are literally artisanal in their flavor appearance and I can also state a strong argument for you «getting what you pay for.»
Don’t let the sticker shock stop you. Upper crust is worth the money and the time!

Upper Crust Bakery is as cute as can be. With a rolling pin door handle and sweet décor everywhere you look, you’ll think you wandered into a doll house instead of a place to buy something to satisify your sweet tooth. I ordered a chocolate cookie and a tiny raspberry peach pie. The cookie was just ok, but the pie was truly the shining star here. The crust was perfect and the flavor was spot on. The service was friendly, and I was in and out in about 5 minutes. This place is incredible!

There is no other pie place that comes close. And pie is an experience here. It doesn’t matter. Just get one. The smell alone will make your tummy growl. Mellow apple. Tart rhubarb. Screaming gooseberry. And their meringue pies? Don’t get me started. If they have butterscotch… just do it. You’re welcome.

Pie tasted sweet… Paying $ 26 for it left a sour taste. Reminds me of $ 200 Royals jerseys. Simply overpriced — I’m not returning. C’mon — who ya foolin?

I’ve heard about Upper Crust for several months now. I can’t believe I didn’t go visit sooner! Today was my first visit and I tried a warmed up personal size (a size up from a slice) bumbleberry pie a la mode. Simply put, arguably the best pie I have ever had. Clearly they do not cut corners on ingredients or the pie making process as evidenced by the resulting pie. Additionally, the staff currently working was very welcoming and provided wonderful service. Very soon, I’ll be back to try different pies and will be placing a Thanksgiving order.

Their pie is definitely 5 stars, hell, it’s 10 stars. Best pie ever. You will pay out the nose for it, but it is worth it and if you bring one to a party everyone will love you.
Cookies are 3 stars. They’re huge, but so dense they verge on dry. And they are super uninteresting compared to the pie. If you MUST have a cookie, go for the molasses. It’s the most chewy of the cookies.
Best value is pie by the slice. And they now have pie flights on Fridays. You’ll get the most bang for your buck with these. If you aren’t too gluttonous, you can even share a slice with a friend and get a glass of milk with two straws.
They don’t have every pie available every day, but don’t despair! If you think you’re not a fan or fruit pies or not a fan of meringue, and that’s all they have, bite the bullet and order it anyway. Their pie will probably change your mind.
FYI, they don’t take American Express.

Yummy this place is great. The pocket pies are light and flakey. Just right. Pecan bar is so good. Not too sweet.

Dear The Upper Crust, may I marry you? I could live off of your cookies and pies and die a happy woman. Your little pies leave me longing for another bite, another piece, and another day to eat your pie again. With a delicate crust and a sweet filling to boot, I may have died and gone to heaven. You have my heart, The Upper Crust.

If you can walk into Upper Crust Bakery and not come away with a cookie, slice of pie or both, you’ve got a will like Bruce Lee.
This is top-​of-​the-​line baked goods here, folks. I could write a five star review on the cookies alone; the shortbread cookies weigh about as much as a light dumbbell and are loaded with flavor. The coconut macaroons are perfection, as are the oatmeal raisin, peanut butter, and lemon sugar.
Even if you prefer to bake things on your own, you’d love Upper Crust because it’s a reminder of how it’s done. Their friendly staff here backs up the friendly fun vibe they have going on in here. It’s the kind of place that draws you in as you walk by the screen door and pie roller handle.
I’ve had my share of their pies as well and you cannot go wrong — personal fav would have to be the Key Lime.
What’s cool about Upper Crust is that this specific location sits on the Main Street of Downtown OP and really helps tie the area together. I see the owners are active with the Farmers’ Market, the Local Life 3^rd Fridays (where you can get a pie flight), and have partnered with Thou Mayest Coffee to have some delicious coffee available with your pie.

An interesting and quaint place in downtown Overland Park to grab a piece of pie and coffee. Would definitely recommend the pie flight for $ 7, (ice cream $ 1 extra). This special is only valid on the third Friday of every month, in the evenings 5−8p (?). For first-​timers it allows you to try out various kinds at a reduced price. Overall, delicious desserts!

WOW! I tried The Upper Crust Bakery after having lunch a few doors down. I was completely full beforehand but as soon as I opened the door, the most amazing aroma tickled my olfactory nerve and my stomach graciously opened it’s arms. I had a slice of the Strawberry Rhubarb a la mode and could have sworn it came right out of Grandma’s oven. This is as close to homemade as it gets! Extremely delicious pie and a quaint, boutiquey ambiance. I loved it!

Love this place! I have never been disappointed here and I am not even a big fan of pie so me bothering to write a review says something!

I think I’ve found the best pies in Kansas City. Each one of these homemade morsels contains the finest fresh ingredients and delightful combinations. I had an apple that was not over sweetened preserving the autumnal flavors of the crisp apple slices inside. The German Chocolate was a clever & tasty twist on the perennial favorite cake with a nice bold chocolate base holding all the nutty pecan and cocoanut bits in place. Both crusts were flaky & buttery crisp. Seek out upper crust for all your pie desires & be satisfied!

Come get yo piece of the pie! This place is delicious! I’m no pie fanatic, but with their PERFECT crust and delicious flavors, I was sold! Upper crust is definitely making your pie in the sky a reality!
We shared a pie flight (brilliant idea upper crust), which is 3 slices for $ 6.50. We added an extra one for a few bucks. Flavors tried: lemon curd, blackberry, warm oatmeal, and chocolate brownie. All were delicious and the warm oatmeal was a cozy pie surprise. Only regret: didn’t get it a la mode for $ 1. Next time, next time.
As if the pie wasn’t enough, this place is adorable. It’s now on my list for out of town guests, especially since it’s nestled in with other fun shops in this old downtown with a facelift. (I see you downtown OP, I see you.) thus, it offers a great dessert stop with some post-​pie indulgence strolling. Perfecto.

At The Upper Crust Pie Bakery, hap“pie“ness is served by the slice. This is the perfect spot to celebrate America’s most delicious pastime, especially their downtown Overland Park location. You can’t walk by the store front without smelling the intoxicating aromas of warm pastry dough and cinnamon. Once inside, chalkboard art, red checkered décor and vintage plates make the atmosphere feel quaint and homey. Pick a pie based on your appetite — full pies range from $ 22 – 25, cutie pies are $ 7 – 8 and a slice is $ 4.50 (a la mode is $ 1 extra). Six to seven varieties of pie slices are offered each day with flavors like cherry, strawberry rhubarb, oatmeal and coconut meringue. Get any flavor of a full pie you like just by calling ahead or ordering online.
I’ve enjoyed all the flavors I’ve tried — strawberry rhubarb, lemon meringue and gooseberry, but the key lime pie is one of my favorites. The key lime is tart, creamy and not too sweet — just the way it should be (in my opinion).
If pie isn’t your thing, try one of The Upper Crust’s fresh-​baked cookies ($ 2.50). I suggest the Burnt Sugar Frosted Banana Cookie. It tastes like a condensed slice of banana bread topped with a thick layer of decadent frosting.
Take your pie hole to The Upper Crust and shove it with as much flaky, gooey goodness as you feel is American.

Pie so good it’ll make you weep. And even better, it’s served in an adorable little store. If buildings had cheeks, you’d definitely want to pinch these.
For my money, there is no better pie than lemon meringue, and The Upper Crust makes a fantastic one. The meringue is so tall and swooping, it resembles something out of a Dr Seuss book. The filling is creamy and tart, and the crust is just delightfully flaky. Eating this pie is a religious experience.
That’s not to say the other options aren’t amazing as well. I’m sure they are, I just never really get them. When I’ve gone with groups, however, everybody is raving about their individual selections, so someday I MAY attempt to branch out.
Prices are a bit steep, but the quality is there to back them up. Treat yo self!

Why did I not know that The Upper Crust is now in Overland Park?! No other pie place even comes close to the extraordinary taste of Upper Crust Pie. Angels are singing and my tummy has never been more satisfied knowing that this glorious place is near my work now.
I strolled in here with a large handful of Unilocalers and the girl behind the counter was just so pleasant. Us picky pie eaters wanted flavors that weren’t on the «Slices of the Day» list. The girl got special permission to slice up their large, fluffy lemon meringue and perfectly sweet Bumbleberry pie just for us.
Get a glass of milk. It comes in an adorable bottle with a polka-​dotted straw.
I’m so happy right now. I could cry tears of joy… over pie!
