First of all, the Gallery is really outstanding for Orlando. There are inexpensive hand-made gifts of all kinds, mostly pottery, but also jewelry, stained glass and a wide variety of other items, all from local artists. Second, the classes are amazing. The instructors are all very knowledgable, patient, insightful and very talented. I have taken two sessions of the pottery class with Del and Connie, and my girlfriend has also taken two sessions of the silver clay jewelry class with Ann. I could really go on and on about the studio and the classes. They have«open studio» for students 4 days a week, and everyone who attends is eager to know what you’re working on, and is willing to lend an ear or a hand whenever needed. People of all skill levels and all walks of life come together in this community space. Finally, there is a semi-annual show and sale where the instructors, artists and students sell their wares. These are generally around Christmas and Mother’s Day if I get it right, and you really do not want to miss these shows. They are an amazing place to get one-of-a-kind gifts and meet artists face-to-face without having to fight for parking like you would at a bigger sidewalk sale. Oviedo is a really charming suburb, and what Del and his family have built here over the years is definitely part of what makes this city such an important part of the tapestry of Orlando.

This may be the best kept secret in Central Florida. I have been shopping at Artistic Hand for more than 20 years. The owner, Del, always has a great local story to tell. The art, pottery and other items in this place are one of a kind. If you are looking for a unique gift, head to Artistic Hand. You will find a lot of choices and really great values.

I’ve been coming here for years on and off to do pottery so my review will be more based around that, but they offer other classes like glass blowing, painting, even children’s pottery! The staff is super friendly and they have a shop where you can find works of art created by locals, so this is a definite place to hit if you’re looking to support local artists. Should you choose to make the artwork yourself, not only would you be giving something beautiful, but you’d be giving something that was made by you. How cool is that? If you decide to sign up for a class, Del will give you a tour of the studio and it really is a potters dream come true. Starting with the wheel room all the way to where he keeps the glazes and tools. I especially like that he has the low fire glazes separated from the high fire glazes. There is a place in the back where you can dip the hire fire pieces which… for anyone who has ever done pottery knows that this is a major convenience as opposed to having to sit there and brush high fire glaze all day. They have heavy duty slab tables complete with a slab-roler, all kinds of molds, and so many accessories that your mind will be reeling with ideas and possibilities! Just to give you an example of how far you can go; I personally made my own bathroom sink here after I got my own place. I got an entire bag of clay and got an above counter-vessel mold and granted. it was hard work, but I did manage to high fire it and get it installed in my bathroom, everyone always makes a comment about it when they come over cause it’s different than the average vessel you’d get at Lowes or Home Depot, and it was made by me so :-) I will finish by saying that you will be amazed when you come here, so make plans to do so.
