This is one of Huntsville’s wonderful greenways for public use. You can access the Greenway from two different parking lots. One parking lot is just down from Cove Park in Hampton Cove. The other parking lot is the main entrance to hay’s nature preserve along Route 431. The Greenway is a mix of asphalt and concrete that winds its way through woods and open field along the Flint River. It’s popular with walkers runners and bikers. The haze nature preserve entrance includes a set of concrete steps leading into the river that is called Cherokee landing. This is a great spot to put in your kayak, Canoe or standup paddleboard. from the Greenway you can occasionally catch glimpses of golfers playing the local golf course. There’s even a sketchy rope swing on one of the trees bordering the Flint. Last but not least is a great rustic fort and playground that is loved by kids. Sometime around Earth Day there is a city of Huntsville Earth Day festival that is free to the public and should not be missed.

Great place and a great distance to walk. Run or bike. Sometimes biking can get a little crowded but most people are cordial and have great etiquette. Plus it’s really clean and just overall enjoyable and is well kept by the city.

Hays is so much fun. I especially like the big swing. It offers a quiet place just outside of the city. It is a perfect place for a Sunday afternoon walk or family picnic. Lots of trees so bring a hammock and book and stay a while.

Nice piece of land with many trails and bike trails connecting w one another. Trees are quite bare this time of year but I’m betting it’s beautiful in the Summer and Fall seasons. Not much of a crowd out here which is nice but lots of scenery to cover!
