Place was busy when we went. Milkshakes were very good. Onion rings were fair. Picnic tables were in desperate need of improving. Recommend on using the drive-thru. Burgers were quick and Ok. Wasn’t the best burger I have ever had. Probably won’t go back if ever in town.

Low prices. The food is fine but not good or elegant. If you don’t mind grease you will probably like the burgers and fries. Milkshakes are delicious but not fancy. There are no high end ingredients in anything at the Big Dipper, but for simple drive-thru food shoved out a window, you will be happy with what you find in their brown paper bags.

A step back in time. 45 years for this family. Everything is good and reasonable in price. It’s a Owensboro favorite

I love this place! I grew up eating here and now when I have friends or family come to town I make sure to take them to the Big Dipper! What I love most is that my parents and grandparents grew up loving this place and now so do I. The great people and food here deff have something good going if they have found a way to be successful all these years.

Long lines sometime but way worth it. The big boy is the best. First place I would take anyone to have the best burger in town. Fresh ingredients and fast service. Cash only though so make sure you have around 10 bucks on you. Because you will want more than one burger.

One of my favorite places in town. Cheap, great food. You absolutely must try the gems and milkshakes. Fantastic local, family business!

The Dipper is a great local place with lots of history. It’s technically fast food, but much better than your typical fast food restaurants. They accept CASHONLY so make sure you have it before you go! The Dipper serves a variety of food and ice cream items. The burgers are great, and the potato gems are always perfectly crispy. They also have a pig in the blanket which is a hot dog split in two with cheese in the middle, wrapped in a piece of bacon, deep fried, and put on a bun. Yeah, it sounds like a $ 2 heart attack, but it’s so yummy. However, the caramel shake really steals the show. It’s hard to describe how good it is so if you can make it out to the Dipper do yourself a favor and order one!

I recently moved to Owensboro and the Dipper is a great local place with a lot of history. This place is a classic 50s drive thru that hasn’t changed much in the last 60 years… which is good. I love the burgers and potato gems. They’re just tater tots but they’re the best! I also love the pig in a blanket. A hot dog split in half, stuffed with cheese, wrapped in bacon, then deep fried, what’s not to love! I’ve read a couple reviews that say their burgers are chewy or rubbery. I disagree, they add sausage to the patty which gives the burger more bite and a different texture than other burgers but its not off putting and makes the burgers taste unique. By far the best thing is the caramel shake!!! It’s cash only which is a little inconvenient, and it is still fast food, but it’s soooo much better than McDonalds… and just as cheap. If you’re in Owensboro this is a must try. Get the caramel shake and thank me later.

A favorite of mine for over 25 years! The malts are amazing, the burgers are greasy but in such a guilty pleasure good way, and I love their pigs in a blanket as well. Drive thru moves quickly. The only problem is they are always so busy the parking lot can get a bit crazy. Recommend you don’t park inside the drive thru lane on the right. So worth a visit!

The flurries are pretty dang good. But, my god, the burgers are just nasty. The burgers are somehow worse than BJ’s Castle Burger.

I will probably make some people angry with this but I was not impressed at all. I admit, I am not a local so but I went safe with a burger and fries. It was a greasy burger but hey it’s a burger. The meat is what scared me, it was literally rubber. The fries were very basic, no salt no seasoning, just fried. Maybe I got a bad batch, maybe I didn’t order the right thing. I’m just sharing my experience.

If you’re on a diet, I don’t recommend the Big Dipper. However, if you’re not, you definitely need to check it out. I have no clue how long this place has been open, but it seems like forever would be a sufficent answer. It’s your«greasy spoon» for ice cream and frozen treats plus burgers and fried food. Every time I’m in the ‘boro, I attempt to stop here. At some dining establishments, you have a «the usual.» This is one place I don’t have that. I suppose the pineapple milkshake(sweet yet refreshing) and a cup of ice(They literally have THEBESTICEEVER.) would be closest for me. I’ve also tried a variety of fried things. Honestly, some of them were a little random, so I don’t even remember what they were. I do remember eating every bite though. While it is in a busy location in Owensboro, the drive thru is greatly appreciated. It seems like it is raining every time I visit, so I’m thankful to stay in my car. Sitting outside and enjoying my treats sounds like a good idea too, and thankfully they have tables and benches for that. To be honest, I’m about ready to visit Owensboro and the Big Dipper again, because it sounds good right about now.

My only complaint is it’s location due to traffic. Otherwise it’s a little gold mine. I love eating here!

The Big Dipper is a local favorite! It’s been around my entire life and there is no place better to get a burger and milkshake. If you’re in town, stop over and grab a «double through the garden». Be sure to bring cash– no debt cards taken.

An Owensboro institution & a classic 50’s burger drive in. I’ve grown up eating Dipper & to this day, I still look forward to eating there. The burgers are delicious, the milkshakes are thick & creamy. It’s such a popular place that the drive thru line usually spills out onto the street.

I LOVE this place. Anytime I come back home I try to make a pit stop here for a burger and a shake. It’s a great place to go during the summer.

Dream meal: Cheeseburger. Through the garden. With Chili sauce. Toss some gems(tots) on the side. And a chocolate cone. Oh, don’t forget the spicy pig(bacon wrapped hot dog stuffed with pepper jack). Classic burger stand. Super greasy, but super good. Will be back. If you’re in town — you gotta go. Practically an institution.

I can describe this place in one word… «Classic» This is an old school burger stand /scoop shop is a time warp back to a time before doller menus and $ 5 foot longs. I do some work at the Ragu plant around the corner and on a hot day, nothing beats this place. Come here to get a great cheeseburger and a malt that will leave you begging for more. If you don’t believe me, drive by day or night. There is ALWAYS a line of cars and people waiting to sink their teeth into the food here. Also, I recommend sitting at the picnic tables outside. People watching in Owensboro is second to none. Enjoy!
