What a great way to spend some time outside. Our group went down in November to Elk Creek(about an hour from Downtown Cincinnati) and signed up for 12 stations, 50 shots. We had 2 ladies with us who had never fired shotguns, and their staff went out of their way to make everyone comfortable with the sport. After a safety discussion(5 minutes) we were given golf carts and shown the route. 12 stations of report pair and true pair skeet with well kept grounds and good equipment. The 12 station course takes about 2 hours(Group of 4), and afterwards you can hang out at the lodge in big comfy chairs watching football and eating lunch. If you’d prefer(and why wouldn’t you) you can also go DIRECTLY next door(literally) to Elk Creek wines and enjoy some local wines, cheeses, food, and live music. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and can’t wait to go back!

Stayed at the lodge and ate at the vineyard. I recommend it to anyone for a quiet night away. Just a relaxing night away from the hustle and bustle.

My boyfriend and another couple met up with us at Elk Creek Hunt Club to shoot and go to the winery afterwards. I had never shot a shot gun or clay pigeons before, so I didn’t know what to expect. When we arrived at the ECHC, I couldn’t believe how beautful the setup of the club and winery was. The green rolling hills and log buildings made for a gorgeous setting. The staff at ECHC was very helpful with going over the rules and directions for shooting clay pigeons. After picking up some ear plugs and renting a golf cart, we ventured out to the beginners course. The beginners course consisted of 12 different stations thoughout the woods. The course was well mapped out so we were able to find out way around easily. I found the stations to be rather challenging, but a lot of fun! It took my party a little over 2 hours to do the whole course– 2 people shot 50 clays and 2 shot 25 clays. If you are looking for something fun and different to do on a weekend, venture up to ECHC.

The gun range is kind of off the beaten track. Signs say u can not shoot any pistols and you have to shoot through tubes. It is ok if you don’t have anywhere else to go and it is free

Who knew this city-girl would have so much fun shooting guns?! My man and I met up with another, gun-toting couple for an afternoon of manliness… and then wine tasting(gotta keep the ladies happy too, right?). Our friend had two guns and ammo, so we only had to pay to rent a golf cart(they have 4-seaters so we split the cost 4-ways, obvs), and the cost to actually use their course. It was a cheap way to do what may get pretty pricy if you have to rent their guns and purchase their ammo. Let me just say, I was terrified. I shot a shotgun one time… ohh, 15 years ago… The gal at the desk offered a tutorial of sorts which I assume is a member of the staff showing the ropes and going over the rules(I wouldn’t have minded this) but our friend had been out here a few times so we declined. Off we went to get our shooting on! The fall leaves were beautiful and, I’m assuming only because there was a chance of rain, the course was not crowded at all. We had plenty of time to get the hang of things and our rotation. The guys each shot two sets of two rounds per station and the girls just decided two shots per station was plenty for us. With that it took us about two hours to make our way through 14 different locations with really varied challenges. I managed to hit a total of 7 clays, which was shocking and totally awesome! The only reason I knock off a star are 1.) the parking; there are abuot 6 spots and then a long driveway which were full so we had to park quite a ways out. 2.) A few of the clay flingers(the totally technical name) were malfunctioning and the clays were breaking before being flug out. It gave us a good laugh but was a bit frustrating since we kind of got into a groove. Otherwise it was a blast and I cannot wait to get back out and shoot(even with the lovely bruising on my right shoulder… worth it!)

Wasn’t sure what to expect when i was told we would be shooting shotguns last weekend. i guess i pictured a station or two that we would shoot at some clay targets. Was amazed that we would be getting a golf cart to do the 14 different stations. Had an awesome time here with some friends as part of a bachelor party weekend. None of us are regular shotgun shooters(2 had never handled a gun), but they provide a brief tutorial to get you started. They have two or three courses, but for the beginners, there are 14 different sporting clay stations. All of the stations were in good working order, aside from one that threw out a couple duds in a row. Occasionally, some would not throw on the first try, but would on the 2nd attempt. Overall, i thought there was a good variety of shots from one rolling across the ground, high, low, varied backgrounds to aim into. Definitely a fun place to go. Gun rental was $ 20(group of four shared the one gun), golf cart rental for 2 people $ 25, 50 shots $ 22.50. Not too bad for a unique adventure. We definitely had a good time and i would definitely recommend this place, even for inexperienced shooters.
