Oby’s

As several have mentioned, it’s very similar to a McAlister’s, in menu, layout and general structure of the restaurant. The primary difference is that they serve more hot foods, basically adding some fried seafood and chicken to the options. They advertise as «Cajun», but it’s not authentic — it’s not even «Cajun-​ish». The meats are very obviously frozen breaded and portions were definitely not generous.
The two of us had alligator po-​boys. One was ordered plain, one with tartar sauce. Both came with mayo, lettuce and tomato. Sent them back. The plain one still had mayo on the meat, so it was fairly obvious they just transferred the meat to a new bun. For $ 9.50, I got a hoagie roll with 6 frozen alligator «nuggets» with a bag of Lay’s chips.
In 15 minutes at the table, we were interrupted 5 times by wait staff, who stopped our conversation to ask if we needed anything. They were college kids who were obviously not trained on how to wait on tables and just making the rounds, so I didn’t really complain.
Not impressed by this place. I visited based on Unilocal reviews, but it didn’t line up with expectations.

Absolute my favorite place to eat! My favorites are: the side salad w/​fried chicken in it (cost extra but worth it), Oby’s Chicken Sandwich (fried), Rotel fries, & Catfish Poboy. No matter what you get you will be satisfied. Don’t forget to get a fish bowl for dessert :)

I love Oby’s, and everyone on my mothers side of the family agrees with me. We go a lot. I haven’t been there in a while, but every time that I’ve been there, I left very satisfied. The service is awesome and so is the food. Oby’s is a great place in Oxford to get a nice bite to eat with the family.
They have really good chicken, and really good fish. Their fries are awesome and they have good sized drinks. They’re a clean place and the servers are nice people as well. I haven’t found much wrong with this place and I think they should keep up the fantastic work. I enjoy their menu and it’s probably one of the greatest establishments in Oxford. Kabuki’s takes the cake, but Oby’s probably fall second in line.
Without Oby’s, there would be nowhere for me to eat chicken and drink a large Mr. Pibb. Four stars defines this place.

Has slowly become one of my fav places to stop and grab a bite to eat when in town! The catfish plate is awesome is humongous… I always split it with my 6 year old! Whenever I’ve been, it’s never been too crowded… service is always fast and never too far away! I’ll definitely return!

My experience with this restaurant was a nightmare.
The delivery through Landshark Delivery went fine. The food arrived quickly and it arrived hot.
I ordered a Fried Oyster Poboy with fries on the side. It was advertised as «fresh oysters» but it tasted stale and tinny like they were canned or frozen. (The manager admitted they were frozen– so points off for false advertising.) The fries were okay. The prices were very high for what you get.
On my third bite into the oyster poboy, I bit down on a large piece of shell– about the size of a dime-​that shattered my back right molar tooth. It was fried along with the breading so I had no way of seeing it. I have to go to an oral surgeon now at the end of this month due to the lack of attention to detail by Oby’s. It was a big enough piece of shell that they should have noticed.
I called the manager and told her the story, and she told me that it wasn’t their fault because they don’t shuck the oysters themselves– they’re frozen (which is again false advertising). She was very rude and very argumentative. She also did not offer to give a refund or comp the sandwich or anything of the sort, and when I asked politely outright refused.
I’m not going to sue– but I’m never going back to that place and I recommend you don’t either. I’m very disappointed and rather upset.

The portions were big in pure southern fashion. Soup and salad was exactly what I wanted on a Sunday night. Thank goodness it was open. Good for grandparents of all ages! Bring ‘em out kids.

They had some incredible jambalaya (which is hard to perfect) as well as some great service. We drove around all Sunday evening for something to be open and this was one of the only ones without a 2hr wait. I’m so glad we ended up there. We had a great time. Also, the beer is super cheap!

Oh, man, those alligator or oyster po-​boys are phenomenal. Oby’s has a mcalister’s vibe, but a bit elevated. The prices are high, but the food delivers. Go for the fries, though there is an upcharge. The cheese dip to start out with is a definite plus. Expect to leave absolutely stuffed with a massive sweet tea to go.

I ordered the philly steak and got a roast beef with cheese. ??? 6 in sub for price of a footlong. Subway has them beat.

I finally got to go back to Oby’s this weekend I have not been in years… this use to me my game day stop back when I was in school. They did not disappoint still the same great food I remember. The whole place is set up kind of like McAlisters you walk up order then they bring the food out to you only difference is this place is way better than McAlisters. They have the all time best chicken tenders… and I know my chicken tenders… even their ranch is great I think it is homemade well at least taste that way. I mean how could you not like a place with awesome chicken oh and rotel as an appetizer. The staff for the most part seems to be high school and college kids, and they are all great super helpful and always checking to see if you need anything. If you are in town shopping or headed to a game this is a great lunch stop.

5 stars (on the counter service scale) Had the shrimp po-​boy and the gumbo; both very good. Would go back today-​if I was in Starkville.

We were urged to try Oby’s by our Olé Miss daughter. We both had the chicken plate and while the waffle fries were good the chicken both grilled and fried were drier than dry. All the sauce in the world couldn’t bring that chicken back to life. If you want good chicken try Abners or Chic Fila.

I gave it 5 stars because it deserves it in my humble opinion. Oby’s is a very similar to a McAlester’s Deli or a Sweet Peppers Deli but with a Cajun twist, and it’s a lot better. My favorites here are the Around the World and the Muffuletta sandwiches.

Parking spaces are narrow. Nice décor and clean. When you enter, there are menus you can look at, as well as a huge menu above the order counter. You pay after you place your order. You are seated with a number and they bring your food to you. The food is OK, my corned beef in the Reuben was hard to eat and didn’t have much taste. My husband liked his Smoked Sausage Hogie and he would have it again. I wouldn’t have the Reuben again. The chicken and roast beef sandwich didn’t even look good to me.

I really enjoy Oby’s — The servers and staff are extremely friendly and the
menu there is great too. I try something different eveytime and never been
disappointed.

Oby’s had some of the friendliest staff I have encountered in Oxford. The food came fast and was hot when it was supposed to be hot, and cold when it was supposed to be cold. I had the club wrap with fried chicken and it was absolutely huge. All my friends’ food came quickly and looked excellent. No complaints.

Not so great food. The bread pudding is too dry and has a preservative type taste. Kinda artificial tasting. The chocolate brownie in the brownie sundae was dry and crumbly. And cold. In a frosty glass. Not very appetizing. Yeah, it was a sundae with ice cream, but the cake part should be hot and yummy, not cold and crumbly. The rest of the food was passable.
The wait staff and cashiers leave plenty to be desired. They act like they are doing you a favor by waiting on you. I think they forget they are there for the customer, not the other way around. Hello?!? I don’t need attitude when you take my money and bring my food. Thanks anyway. Eh, what are ya gonna do? That’s what you get when there are nothing but teenagers working there.

Best Muffeleta outside of N.O. Service is outstanding and any dish I’ve ever ordered has been good if not Great.
