Terrible customer service and aggressive bouncers. Would be an ok place if they actually held their staff accountable.

These people are THIEF’S!!! so my husband and I went there on sat 08⁄29 to have a good time with friends. When we got there, in order for you to sit is to get a table so we did. It cost us 200 so a fiend and i split it in half. The lady that ran my card gave me back my receipt and i gave her tip in cash. Well when i got home i realized that i had drop my debit card and i immediately called the place. The gentleman who answer the phone stated they did have it and my card was in a secured lock box and i can pick up the following day. when i check my bank account they had ran my card for 205. They gave them selves 105 of tip. they probably thought since i drop my card that i was too drunk to remember what i spend. I contact the manager(which he hardly speaks English) and inform him of my situation. He stated that i can pick up my money so i did. However, when i got there«Martin» stated he couldn’t refund my money because he had no idea what was going. I then ask to speak to the owner but they gave me every excuse that he was not available. I then reported through my bank as fraud and will never go there again. I mention to my co worker of what had happened and ruby’s did the same thing with her husband. So please check your bank account after here.

Eh, there is really nothing impressive about this place. The outside isn’t appealing, the inside isn’t appealing, but because it’s been around for so long it maintains its clientele. I wish this place would give themselves a fresh new look it may help attract more of a nightlife to the Oxnard community.

Ruby’s is supposed to be considered«the hottest nightclub in downtown Oxnard». You’re kidding, right? A friend of mine and I drove here from L.A. to see a music concert by Julieta Venegas(an awesome Spanish rock artist). But why Oxnard? Well, her other concerts in L.A. were completely sold out by the gringos!!! So, we made the trek. Just getting here was an adventure. We passed by strawberry fields, large factory lots, and drove through dusty dirt roads to get to Ruby’s. WHERE was this place!!! We arrived and were happy to find PLENTY of parking spaces in the vicinity. We stood in line for what seemed forever. And as we stood in line forever, we noticed the thick red velvet rope. It reminded me of something that would be seen at a nightclub in Hollywood.(Not that I make rounds at clubs in Hollywood – just not my thing). But, seriously? Well, I guess they were trying. That’s so snobbish of me, I know! Sorry! And, I noticed that we were totally out of place, for there were women wearing platform heels, tubes for dresses where the outline of every curve and bulge can be seen. Were we going to the same concert? Anyway… We approached the front of the line, and had a hard time getting in! The people running this place were totally disorganized! They didn’t have our information when CLEARLY we already purchased our tickets and had the proof to show them. They told us to move to the side, and we had to wait some more. Seriously?! Amateurs!!! Well, about 30 minutes later, we FINALLY made our way inside to a largely empty dark space. All that fuss, and there weren’t many people there! Well, we were determined to make the most of it. We were hungry so we ordered two tacos. Since this was largely a Mexican community, surely the food would be good, right? WRONG! The tacos we ordered were oozing with a mysterious orange oil onto our one-ply paper plate. We weren’t sure what we were eating. It resembled road-kill. Perhaps it was. They were tacos, but they used pre-made taco shells(the kind found at Taco Bell). Seriously?! Come on! These tacos were HORRIBLE! The greasiest and grossest EVER! I said EVER! Later that night, we instead made our way across the street and enjoyed some decent Mexican food. And the bathrooms! MYGOD, the bathrooms!!! They were disgusting! First off, there were plenty of drunken loud women, doing Lord knows what! The place was filthy with toilet paper all over the place and other stuff about. Yeah, women can be pretty disgusting when it comes to the bathroom. I just wanted to do my business and get on out of there! The ONLY highlight at Ruby’s was the Julieta Venegas concert. She was great! I’m just surprised that she played here. Maybe that’s just how hipster she really is. She does march to the beat of her own drum, which I find to be pretty cool. :) 5 stars for Julieta Venegas.(She was AH-mazing!) 1 star for the venue.(WAH!!!)

The place has potential, but just like any party its over when gangmembers come! The fact that you have to watch your back makes you realise where your at! Overpriced alcohol, Bartenders who speak only spanish, security that think they’re Oxpd, punking guests. No way jose! The food sucks, its a nightclub not a restaurant! Yet I’m confused rubys café or rubys nightclub? Do yourself a favor & spend your money elsewhere this is not the place.

The food here was pretty bland… In our basket of chips there was a long black hair in it. Overall — Just mediocre food. The service was great though. Our server was very attentive and friendly.

My family and I went there for the first time because we had a certificate. The place was dead when we got there! we were the only people dinning there. The service was ok and the food was not that great. My mother ordered a combination plate and the beans were spoiled the waitress replaced the beans but they were still not good then she just ended up telling my mother that she had the choice between salad or more rice. Alcohol is very expensive as well my boyfriend got a beer and it was $ 7 that is just ridiculous. I don’t think I would go again. The service and the food did not impress me.

This place sucks! Used to enjoy it when Dj Solo used to play here, now it seems they try too hard, its too loud, and the lighting makes me want to throw up, dont even get me started on the staff! It seems as though 2 of them that work there are a couple and they were all over each other most of the night, extremely unprofessional!!! I know its a club and people get careless, but that shouldnt be the case for their employess(Chuy)(Lucero), then as my friends and i were trying to order drinks, it took the bartender a while to service us and when he did, he served us watered down drinks. Then as we were about to leave the bar, we noticed a group of people come to the bar who were familiar with the bartender and he was giving them all free drinks. What kind of place is Rubys? Cheap, dirty place and rude sleazy employees. Never will i go here again! see you in SugarBeats!

Will definitely not be back. I came to Rubys from Santa Barbara very excited to visit a dance club that actually played some good latin music and from what I heard was a happening spot. Boy was I disappointed. From the beginning the staff were very unprofessional at the door. The security would flirt with every girl that came in while checking their IDs. I imagine if the girls had been at least a little more interested it wouldn’t have looked half as pathetic as it did to everyone in line. I’m surprised I didn’t get picked up on… maybe cause I am a guy(thank goodness for that). When we did get in, it reminded me of a high school dance. Guys on one side, girls on the other. I’m not shy so I got my group out there and got the dancing going. Music was pretty good so everything was looking like it would be a good night, then I started to get thirsty and I discovered why cover is so cheap. Drinks are poured into a cup overfilled with ice, with the least amount of alcohol I have ever seen in a drink, and waaaaay too watered down with juice. How much are these drinks may you ask; 8 – 10 dollars for the smallest plastic cup of watered down alcoholic juice I have ever had. I don’t care about cost if I am getting what I paid for, and this was definitely not the case. The pre-mixed margaritas may have well been lemonade for all I know, and everything else tasted really good as a juice drink, but not an 8 dollar mixed drink. Oh and god help you if you are a minute late for their five dollare drink specials, you are out of luck. 60 bucks later my friends and I were done and drove back home. Living in Santa Barbara and partying everywhere from LA to Vegas, I know when I am getting a good experience… this was definitely not that experience. If you have any clubbing experience, stay away from this place. You be sorely disappointed and spend way too much money for nothing. I will gladly stay in SB next time and get my moneys worth. Hope you guys read this Rubys cause you’ve definitely got issues. You have all been warned!

As a regular customer, I cannot give enough positive praise to this place. There’s a reason why I’m a «regular,» after all =) I’LLBEGIN W/THE MORNINGSERVICE: Brunch on Sunday mornings are a must. It gets bustling due to the live Mariachi that plays. Very fun, laid-back atmosphere. And what better way to spend a Sunday morning after the night’s debauchery than w/a mariachi, a michelada, and some good food? All-you-can-eat Mexican food to fuel your day. Some highlights on the menu include menudo, chilaquiles, omelettes made to order, pancakes, and plenty of sides. As for lunch, they have buffet service in addition to a lunch menut. Probably about the only time of day I have not gone, but I’d assume it’s just as good as brunch! HAPPYHOUR/DINNER: Yayy! Favorite time of the day. The bartender, Adrian, busts out with the $ 8 margarita pitchers and $ 1 tacos. My favorite are the chicken tacos, as they have a very juicy, flavorful taste. I’ve been told they bring in fresh chicken every morning and marinade it for the day. Mmmmm! The camarones a la diabla are also worth trying, as they definitely left an impression on me. Service has always been very attentive, and I love the fact that they constantly ask whether there is anything else they can do for you. I also hear they have a trio that plays on Saturday nights and the Mariachi on Friday nights for dinner, but alas, have not been to these either. Just thought I’d throw it out for those interested. NIGHTCLUB: I postponed coming here @ night for the longest time after I moved back to Oxnard. I did come from LA, afterall. I had very high expectations for the clubbing scene and doubted Ruby’s would be anywhere near my expectations. Great example on why it’s important to try everything once for yourself, because I was completely surprised by the quality of the DJs and the atmosphere. Granted, the venue is not big, but it’s just the perfect size for the location, so I don’t mind that @ all. As for the lineup, they have Top 40 on Thursdays & some type of Spanish music on Fridays. My favorite nights are Saturdays because they open up both rooms of the restaurant. One side is hip-hop/Top 40 and the other side is cumbia, salsa, reggaeton, and my favorite of the moment… bachata! I’m sold! Don’t hear a lot of that in Oxnard, as it’s barely making it’s way over here. I, for one, am very appreciative of this place for that fact. As for Sundays, they usually have a live Banda along w/a DJ, also fun! Phew! Talk about variety! For me, the customer service is one of the biggest reasons I keep coming back. I cannot stress it enough. They are very accommodating and when the staff listens to you, that in turn translates to a quality experience w/the food, setting, experience, etc. Give it a try!

Unfortunately this«nightclub» is the only legitimate entertainment that stays open past 12am in downtown Oxnard. They know that and everyone in Oxnard knows that. I actually go to the nightclub quite often. I guess I go with the hope that they change but they never do. There are other venues that I will substitute this place with more often(La Dolce Vita, The Kitchen and maybe sugar beets). The service is non existent. Once you’re in they forget about you, unless you throw excess amounts of money at them.(might be good for business but bad for regulars that are there to have a good time every weekend and not blow $ 300 on drinks) The crowd(on thursdays, thats when I go) is a fun loving one. Like any nightclub or bar in Oxnard, you’ll experience the local«cholos» that look like idiots holding up the wall, but for the most part once they spend $ 20 dollars on bud lights then they tend to scatter on to the dance floor or to another place of the«club» to hold up another side of a wall. There are a lot of women in attendance, with a Fugly percentage of about 30%(so roughly if you and 4 of you’re buddies are looking for good looking ladies then 2 or 3 of those ladies will be F@%*-able) With that said, It’s my understanding that they are under new management and changes are on their way. Good-luck, I mean that because it bums me out to give these guys such a meager review, but they need to listen to their regulars and get back to being a fun place.

Where do I start? We came in to this resteraunt and at first glance there werent too many people there and almost no one had food in front of them which seemed odd to me. We got sat down and handed our menus, which had very little vairiaty, and seemed to me that it was just cleverly organized to take up space. We sat there for a good 15 minutes or so and no one had came to ask us what we’d like to drink or take our orders. When someone finally came around we got our drinks and orders taken. We waited for our food for another hour. During this time we thought maybe the food would be mind blowing since it was taking so long. Much to our surprise, the plates were hotter than the food on them. We ordered food that is clearly eaten with tortillas and they hadn’t brought them out with our food. We asked our waiter and he. said they would be coming out shortly since they were being made. When he finally brought them out he brought 3 tortillas for our group, consisting of 7 people! We asked him if they were going to bring out. more he said yes. He didn’t. We asked two more times until they finally did. When they finally brought them out everyones food was colder than when it first came out. The portions were very tiny considering each plate was no less than $ 15. The food for the most part was not good, was bland, felt microwaved and not to mention that the beans were spoiled! Our waiter did not come out to ask us how we were doing or if we needed refills. He came out once to pick up our plates. The only thing remotely good about this place was the live music. This place should stick to the nightlife and even then based on this horrible service and food I would never lay one foot in here again. Goes without saying, I wasn’t the only one with a stomach ache when we got home! I don’t reccomend this place to any one and hope everyone takes my word for it. If not good luck.

Came to try the lunch buffett and let me tell you… there was a good crowd when i arrived while i was there and more when i left. They offered trip-tip mexicana style with tomato onion jalepenos green onion And it was extremely delicios and good thick slices! Chili verde and colorado aswell as tamales chili rellenos broiled chicken and rice an beans and a good flavored caldo de pollo. Also a variety of salsas and guacamole. A small salad and fruit bar the had honey dew watermelon cantalope and pepinos along with jicama, definitly impressed and at 6.95 a plate you cant beat it The only this was they definitly need to restock food once it runs out as i noticed it went quickly thats why i only gave it 4 i went with my husband and daughter(4) and she enjoyed as well and our total was 20.65 we only got charged for 2buffet meals and 3drinks wow! And our waiter was on top of refills ans prompt to take plates away. This is definitly worth a second trip back! Btw. I dont know about prior service before but i do know the original owners sold and are under new management. so maybe this is why i had such a great experience! I urge you to atleast try it out with new management and some good decent food cause in reality hey…$ 6.95? You cant beat it! Enjoy oxnard! ;-)

went here last night with my co worker, his cousin, and 2 friends… We got bottle service and it only came out to about $ 25-$ 30 a head(for grey goose… its $ 15 to get in with no bottle service). I found out quickly that for about 90% of the night, I was the only black guy there. And you know what? I like it like that… No competiton! haha. But ya anyways it was fun. And since yesterday was the day michael jackson passed away, they played alot of his songs. It was kind of sad, but when you are tipsy and«billie jean» comes on, you can’t feel anything but good. Went here for a work lunch and was very impressed with the décor inside. It was generously spacious! However, there was no one in the restaurant during lunch hour. Granted we went at 12:30.but that should still be bustling. Anyhow, it was nice to have the entire place to ourselves! The menu consisted of a mixture between Mexican and Italian food; which I thought was interesting. I ordered chicken enchiladas and they were ok. I mean that weren’t off the wall oh my goodness this is awesome or anything, but they did satisfy me for lunch. Apparently, they’re more known for their nightlife. They host on different nights of the week different genres of music and dancing! Including salsa dancing, mariachi, hiphop, you name it! They have two rooms with a stage in each, and huge dance floor with a decent size bar. This restaurant is owned by the same owner of Ruby’s in Downtown Santa Barbara.
