This is the closet you can come to going to one of the a bizarre s in Tijuana… without the drive. The stuff here is so cool and not what I expected however it is a heavily Hispanic swap meet. The sheer amount of culture here is amazing. The Ventura swap meet is just like this only with more«swap meet stuff. like tools and old stuff like remotes and cables for different appliances and computers. I have never seen Birds for sale at a swap meet before, Cockatiel’s, finches and love birds. Oxnard has all new stuff; from food, to dresses, household supplies and shoes. The crowd was ridiculous, the sub culture here was amazing and the social aspect of the Latino community was very well represented on all fronts. I think i will need to brush up on my Rosetta stone before i return.

You can find a lot of deals here, the food trucks are an added bonus. Closes a little early though. Could use some music

Well what can I say. its the swap meet! Always packed, and when you walk through there you’re destined to accidentally touch someones toosh… Anyways to the main point, you can find anything the swap meet, from clothes to someone trying to sell you direct tv(err.) but I personally go for the fresh produce, and THEAHHMAZINGFRUITIN A CUP! The line is always humongous at the fruit stand, but the wait is so worth it! So fresh, so delicious, and hey you can put all the chili powder that you want on that thing! As for the fresh produce, always reasonably priced, and some stands let you try a bite before you buy. What makes me like this swap meet a bit(just a bit) better than the one at VC, is the fact that parking is free.(SCORE!) So if you feel like doing a little browsing, buying(amazing!!!) fruit in a cup, or just exercising, come to the swap meet! The worse thing that can happen is that you accidentally touch a toosh. :)

This place is horrible! My mom got injured here because some vendor had some piece of her equipment on the ground. My brother and I called the office manager and told them what had happened and she said they were aware of it and that it was my mom’s fault. WTF? I asked what the business hours were and she said from 8am to 3PM, I told her that when I called on a Friday, their machine says business hours are from 7am to 3PM.(which is the real time, but lied because the incident happend between 7 – 8) The office manager told me it’s because she didn’t know how to change the machine. REALLY, lady, really??? A week later, the Swap Meet is only on Sundays(it used to be on Saturdays, too!). I called the machine, and they changed it correctly to Sundays only… The office manager was dumb to say she didn’t know how to change her machine. What an IDIOT!(sorry for my choices in words) just annoying when I think about it… My poor mother was on crutches for months! About this market place, well… I don’t recommend coming here. You’re better off going to the one in Ventura.

My co-worker and I came to work at Oxnard College on a Sunday to work and plan for our big event when we saw parking lot entrances blocked off. We wanted to see what was going on behind the Student Services Building and it turns out there’s a swap meet: D I bought a pair of magenta feather earrings for $ 1 from an accessory vender. Other venders I saw were clothing, boots, MAC make up, aprons, pet birds and more since it was a huge desolate that took up Simpson Drive and the parking lot nearby. I would come again and check out the whole swap meet next time because it’s every Sunday they have it :)

There is one reason why I come all the way out here and it is also the same reason why I am giving this swap meet four stars instead of three… and that is for the truck that serves arroz caldo and fried fish balls. Mmm… I love Filipino cuisine, but I normally do not like to buy soup. However, their arroz caldo is the B-E-S-T! I always have to make sure I at least stop by here to have some before I fly back to Seattle, WA. Although I do end up dowsing it in a bunch of patis(fish sauce), which they provide on the condiments table. I am serious. You have to try it. Their arroz caldo is so flavorful! And for those who do not know, I guess you can describe it as the Filipino version of rice porridge. Their fish balls are great, too, although they are just skewered fish balls that they fry up and eat with some sweet chili sauce. For the adventurous, they also have balut(a fertilized duck or chicken egg with a nearly-developed embryo inside that is boiled and eaten in the shell) and diniguan(aka«chocolate meat»: pork blood and other good stuff). Yum! However, aside from this little truck, this swap meet is nothing compared to the swap meet in Ventura College when it comes to vendors. The swap meet at Ventura College is much larger and has more vendors for you to browse from. But the thing is, they would not have arroz caldo there! My conclusion: just make sure you go to both of them! :D And remember, swap meets are only open on weekends.
