Good luck to the former owner’s. I’m impressed that they were able to last five years at that location, which has very little traffic going by.

SOOO sad Vy’s has closed. I’ve been coming here for years for their Banh Mi, shrimp toast and Vietnamese Iced Coffee… and a coconut waffle on occasion… Unfortunate that yet another family owned small business has closed… RIP Vy’s I will miss you… You were my guilty coast side pleasure… Dinosaurs does not rate.

RIP Vy’s. You guys had the best banh mi at a fair price. After seeing your closed sign I(regrettably) gave Dinosaurs 7.50 for their«the special». After a drink and tip it was over 12 dollars! Currently researching my next go to banh mi spot. Suggestions are welcome!

Always get the pork and chicken sandwiches, on my way home from the gym. And to start my lazy day off with a very tasty sammie.

Pandan Waffles were soooo good. Ordered a bunch in advance and were nice, hot, and ready when I came to pick them up. Definitely recommend!

It’s 2015, stop being one of those stupid places that is cash only. Especially when there’s no ATM anywhere close besides a bar that isn’t open during breakfast hours.

Their pork sandwiches are consistently good! Jack likes the Vietnamese iced coffee and I get the Thai ice tea with pearls. It’s a great place to grab a quick lunch.

I’m trying to balance out the overall rating of this place as Cathrin P C. is right, Vy’s Coffee is NOT a 4.5-star type of place. It’s a legit hole-in-the-wall café where you can get some well-priced treats, but only if you happen to be in the area and want to grab a cheap bite. This is not a place to go out of your way to try! Sandwiches, rice plates, and salads are around $ 5 – 6 each. Serving size is a little smaller than average — I’ve tried only having their papaya salad for lunch and I got a little hangry that afternoon. Rice plates and banh mi are very basic, but not bad for a simple meal. Shrimp toast is NOT that special. The coconut waffle is awesome — freshly made, tasty but not too sweet, highly recommended. Today I paid $ 8.45 for a papaya salad and coconut waffle and am feeling pretty good right now.

WTF! Unilocalers lead me astray this time. This is not even close to being a 4+ star rating restaurant. I’ve been to plenty of hole in the wall places that serve amazing food and this is NOT one of them. I ordered a chicken salad that was served to me with a plastic fork… romaine lettuce from a bag, few slices of cucumber & tomato, sliced chicken on top — not even sure how that chicken was cooked. It had some kind of dry msg-ish seasoning sprinkled on it. $ 5.50 not worth it. Vietnamese sandwich $ 5.50 — husband said it was fine but nothing remarkable. Comparing this to San Jose sandwich places… a 3 star SJ sandwich shop knocks this one clear out of competition. Plus it’s only $ 3 in SJ. Kiddo wanted the shrimp toast — toasted so hard, damn thing could’ve chipped her teeth. Almost $ 2 — I could’ve made a better version. Tasted like sweet mayonnaise and imitation crab… Sadly this is no hidden gem. Just an imitation for people who are either willing to settle or don’t know any better.

I’ve been meaning to try this place for awhile and finally took the time one Saturday morning. We arrived and was greeted with a smile. We decided to get everything listed below. — Shrimp Toast — YUM… it’s some kind of mixture of shrimp, celery, and red bell pepper. It’s creamy and definitely unique… not too fishy which I like. They charge per peice and I believe each peice is $ 1.85. — Pork Banh Mi — This sandwich was delicious but didn’t really taste like a traditional Vietmanese sandwich. The meat was full of flavor and it didn’t contain as much veggies as I’m used to. — Coconut Waffle — I know that this is one of the popular items, but I didn’t care too much for it. It’s exactly what it is. A coconut waffle. It’s not served with any syrup or anything and you don’t really need it. — Fresh Shrimp Spring Rolls — These were yummy. They add a little spice to their peanut sauce which makes it a little different from the other peanut sauces I’ve tasted. We washed everything down with a Seattle’s Best Hazlenut Coffee and headed out as satisfied customers. I’d definitely return for more spring rolls and shrimp toast!

Cozy, lovely spot with a delicious Banh Mi sandwich! Also, try the Thai Ice tea when you’re sweet tooth is calling. Perhaps my absolute fav thing about this place are the people who own the spot… kind, considerate and humble humans! Thanks for you’re kind services!!!

Bit by bit, the City of Pacifica has slowly revealed some hidden gems tucked underneath its cozy fog. I recently discovered this wonderful place that was close to the Pier. I’ve probably drove by this place hundreds of times before without even realizing the goodness that I’ve been missing. As I was eating my Banh Mi at Dinosaurs, I was scrolling thru Unilocal and Vy’s Coffee kept popping up with an average rating of 4 ½ stars. I was somewhat dismissive at first citing it only had slightly over a hundred reviews. The more I kept scrolling at the photos and reading the reviews, it piqued my curiosity. Since Pacifica is literally my backyard, I decided to pay a visit and ordered their Pork Banh Mi and Coconut Waffle. The Banh Mi was good, but the Coconut Waffle sealed it for me. This thing was piping hot, but it had a nice texture(could use a little crunch) and you can definitely taste the coconut. I also interacted with the owners/workers and they were all pleasantly nice. On my next visit, I took the Wifey along, who was also initially dismissive, until she also had a taste of the Coconut Waffle. If she ain’t speaking, that means I was right. We got a couple of Banh Mis, a Papaya Salad and a Shrimp Toast. The latter, also surprised us as it was tasty and yummy. I would compare it to a Bruschetta topped with creamy shrimp puff thingy. Sorry, that’s the best I could describe it and you just have to take my word for it. And since a Vietnamese place wouldn’t be complete without the usual selections of Boba drinks and Vietnamese Coffee, they have these too. I’m not much of a Boba guy, but I don’t mind the kick of a good Vietnamese Coffee once in a while.

This place is not fancy, but it’s a mom and pop coffee shop that has surprisingly great banh mi! This was our first time in Pacifica(coming from the city), so we didn’t expect much after being spoiled with Saigon Sandwich and the many coffee shops here. Our hazelnut latte and pork banh mi sandwich were both delicious though! Warm bread, delicious non-fatty pork! The total for the small latte and sandwich came to about $ 10. If you happen to be around Pacifica, make sure to check it out!

Very surprised by the high ratings. Came here in part b/c of the raving Unilocal reviews and in part b/c they were one of the few places open. They’re really nice and friendly, but the food was quite mediocre. I really wanted a toasted bagel w/cheese, meat and other things, but they gave me a bagel that was warmed up but clearly not toasted. I didn’t ask for eggs but the bagel came with eggs anyway. It looked like the meat was cooked into the pre-made eggs. It wasn’t terrible but not what I wanted. Also tried the coco waffles but that was kind of mediocre too. They didn’t have plastic knives, which was odd. The Vietnamese coffee was good but I was surprised it was lukewarm at best even though I asked for it to be hot. I liked the owner and his daughters, which is why I’m not giving this place a two-star rating. This was also a peaceful place to grab a bite. I was just kind of disappointed in the food.

I used to live up the hill from this place and I would eat here at least twice a week. Now that I live in Oakland, I miss this place dearly. Sure, there are great places in Oakland to get good a banh mi(Banh Mi Ba Le, Cam Huong, etc.) but this place takes the cake. Vy’s is so underrated and a hidden gem. Their banh mi’s are on point and their shrimp toast is the shit. On top of that, the couple who owns this joint are the sweetest people ever. This place is fasho a place I will travel for.

5 stars for the quality of food(the coconut waffle and Vietnamese pork sandwich was terrific), the pleasant atmosphere of the store and the price of the meal. The price relative to most breakfast places is very competitive, the waffle being $ 1.40(70?), and the sandwich only 4 something. The owner is very kind and works quickly to prepare the meals which you can watch from the seating area. I highly recommend it for anyone passing through the area.

I LOVEVYS. I would even marry the pork banh mi if I could. The banh mi items are the best I’ve ever had, so simple yet so delicious. And if you’re in need to a caffeine fix, I would recommend getting the Vietnamese coffee. The caffeine is on a whole different level, definitely keeps you awake and jolly.

Coconut waffles. I love coconut almost as much as I love horchata. My expectations were high, and they were met with this delightfully cheap and semi-sweet waffle. Loved every hot and fresh bite. Their bahn mi sandwich was just okay. It’s hard for me to judge a bahn mi sandwich since I tend to compare all bahn mi’s with Saigon Sandwich on Larkin Street. It’s wrong, I know. That’s why I’ll never be a professional food critic, because I have my favorites. Solid 4 stars.

Vy’s is where I popped my Bahn Mi cherry! I had never even heard of Bahn Mi before Vy’s(so it’s been a while since I’ve been there) but my friend said we should switch up our El Toro kick and try it out. Super bomb, really friendly people, and cheap, but bring CASH, as it’s cash only.
