This is hands down the coolest and most well-stocked second-hand store I’ve ever been to. The experienced thrifter knows you shouldn’t go into a shop with anything too specific in mind and just take the treasures as they come – and as long as you use this strategy, Building 160 is as rich as those fabled gold mines rumored to be hidden in the nearby hills. Unlike most thrift stores that sell mostly clothes, Building 160 skimps a bit on the clothing, but carries just about any other manner of object you could possibly want. Housewares, furniture, restaurant appliances, vintage fur coats, beautiful sets of china, toys, Tibetan Buddhist trinkets, taxidermied African game, and even once upon a time a giant sequined pineapple large enough to fit a person inside, rumored to have originated as a part of a «Miss Nude USA» photo shoot(that particular object has since acquired a reputation of its own, passed through numerous hands, and lived in several states. «Epic» doesn’t quite cover it). The flavor and variety is unparalleled. Building 160 is a definite must-see and must-experience for any visitor to Death Valley, Pahrump, or the surrounding environs. As with any second-hand shop worth its salt, prices are negotiable, so don’t shy away from loading up with anything and everything you can carry away.

This place is like none other. A crazy thrift shop is the best description, but it does it no justice. Rather it’s a series of cobbled-together buildings and lean-tos filled with everything the proprietors could get their hands on — clothing, books, CDs and DVDs, furniture, toilets, tubing, car seats, costume and expensive jewelry, dishes, furs, household items, even some taxidermy and a few ancient(and giant!) statutes of the Buddha. It’s… impressive, to say the least. No trip through Pahrump is complete without a stop into Building 160. You may walk out with some real treasures, or at least having had a few chuckles at the random things you will find!
